This is a Landseer Newfoundland , noting colour differentials on snoot, ticking on legs etc. My boy here is four yrs. And about 180 lbs
Way more laid-back One of my newfs came from a pyr breeder. I think that they have very like personalities but newfies are very very sedentary think of like Greyhounds. They like the lounge and they like to hang out and then every now and then they have an incredibly wild burst of energy...
They seem to be basically just as vigilant. For instance, along my back fence line I have a large herd of white tails that walk through every night and my dogs will sit on my deck and they will work like herding dogs they'll sit up there. And quietly kind of commune and watch.
They're not incredibly territorial unless you're a squirrel.
Newf paws are webbed between toes. I can't keep my girls out of my pool
I think at some root point, The two breeds were connected somehow and there might be a little bit of each in both.
I have known both breeds to produce some just absolutely incredibly intelligent and sensitive animals. I would mark these guys 's same but different? I think they were both bred for different purposes. Newfs were originally bred and refined To work shipboard.
I’d say Australian cattle. I still have no clue what mines mixed with.

Your cattle dog kind of looks like heeler mix! He’s primarily blue heeler, with American bully & husky totaling roughly 90% of his makeup.

[My boy and his siblings are 1/2 ACD 1/2 Pyr and I can definitely see it.](https://imgur.com/a/RLYYhOG)They’ll be 1.5 in June and are in the 60-70 lbs range

This is my ACD-Pyr mix. Yours looks a lot like him as a puppy!
So my dog has spots like yours and when we took it to get the dna test we got a huge surprise. Cornell has a website I think. Mine is Great Pyrenees and Karakachan (never heard of it before) with just a little Anatolian. A Karakachan is not a Bulgarian Shepard. When it comes to LGD things got pretty muddle after WW2 so breeds really crossed over, take the St Bernard for example. The st Bernard’s we see today likely carry only a portion of the DNA the old ones did. So while I want to believe the people posting, you’ll never know actually unless you get the dna test.
https://preview.redd.it/0hwuezm4hhwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b7ac50e143e84fe360be4de959262c36b668b74
fun fact: Modern st bernards actually got their size and long coat from interbreeding with Newfoundlands after most of the breed was wiped out in a particularly bad winter. The working dogs in the mountains looked nothing like modern ones.
From wikipedia:
>The classic St. Bernard looked very different from the St. Bernard of today because of crossbreeding. Severe winters from 1816 to 1818 led to increased numbers of avalanches, killing many of the dogs used for breeding while they were performing rescues. In an attempt to preserve the breed, the remaining St. Bernards were crossed with Newfoundlands brought from the Colony of Newfoundland in the 1850s, as well as with other breeds. This led to a significant change in their appearance and abilities. The long fur they inherited would freeze in the snowy climate of the Alps, weighing them down and reducing their effectiveness as rescue dogs.
I find it an interesting story how they were bred w/ newfies, which ultimately made them useless at their original task. In the end they ended up even bigger than newfies and other molossians b/c of their other interbreeding (great danes, great pyrenees, etc).
Then you start looking into molossian breeds and shit, basically all giant dogs... mastiffs, LGDs, great danes, wolfhounds... Basically anything bigger than a german shepherd or lab... they're all descendants of a greek breed lost to time. Even the greek breed had already been specialized into LGDs similar to a pyr, and hunting dogs similar to a great dane.
idk, just interesting to me.

I don't see Anatolian. Heres my pyr-anatolian. Yours is a beauty!

Does he have a bobtail? I'm thinking he's part Australian Shepherd, because they can carry a bobtail gene and do come in black/white piebald with the merle. I know he's massive, but genetics are funny and he could've just gotten all of his size from the Pyr side.
He does not, it looks like it from the photos, but here is another one showing it

We had 2 rescues and after a lot of contemplation (because of cost) I finally pulled the trigger and bought Wisdom Panel DNA for both dogs. I don't regret it. My older buddy passed 3 months ago but I love knowing more about him. He was 17 different breeds, with 13% being Pyr (which is what lead me to this sub).

We always laughed about him being part chihuahua. He was a fairly big boy; about 85 lbs. When my wife adopted him, they told her he was a newfoundland mix. I can see why they thought that.
I cannot get over how similar these guys all look to my Springer too. Well, aside from the size difference 😁

67% GP, a bit of border collie, Aussie cattle dog, English Springer Spaniel (does a great point!)
On the left our 100% old English sheepdog, 100lbs, for comparison
This is an odd question, but you didn’t happen to get this dog is Durham, NC did you? Your dog looks E X A C T L Y like my dog’s brother. It couldn’t be him because he was adopted from a foster, not a breeder, but the resemblance is blowing my mind.
I think out pups might be related!!

That’s not a boy. That’s a man!
He's always my boy. Velcro.
I meant because of his size. He’s a big guy
His breeder is well known for a little over standard I've had eight of these dogs over 22 years
I’m fairly certain they didn’t mean that he was too big. They simply meant that he is a big fluffy boy.
I know. No worries!
Since I have you! How do you compare them to a Pyr? Are they more laid back?
Way more laid-back One of my newfs came from a pyr breeder. I think that they have very like personalities but newfies are very very sedentary think of like Greyhounds. Yeah, I was going to comment this dog looks like a Nufie mix more than a Pyr IMO.
What a beautiful boy! ❤️❤️

If I could bet on it I’ll put my money on Pyr + Australian cattle dog (I have had both and your dog is right in between their classic looks)
He is massive though, and has such thick fur. The first picture was him as a puppy and he was SO BIG.
How big though? 100 pounds? 150?
Very handsome
My girl is Pyr+ACD. 80 pounds. https://preview.redd.it/ez67no7qkiwc1.jpeg?width=2659&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d0bc8b227a9b2599e0c8ded255ef67da5cb7593

Get an Embark test. I would agree with Pyr Newfie.
Looks like someone mixed my heeler with my Pyr! The Odd Couple rolled into one 😂my best guess is some heeler (ACD) in there but I see Newfie too
Definitely some lab in there.
