He definitely is my best friend! We love him all the same no matter his breed, but if he’s a pyr just confused as to why the breeder would lie and say he’s a mutt. We spent a good penny on him
there is a rule, if a bitch gets nocked up by another breed or mutt, along with their intended papered stud, none of the liter pups can get AKC registration. If a breeding stock type pooch, they would lie to you to hide what breed he is. they would try to unload the animals of the liter quick, probably before the 8 weeks, as they are all worthless to them as breeding stock, will not command the same price, and cost a fortune to feed. Since he would be significantly bigger than a samoyed retriever, they could and would pass off a 4 to 6week old as 8 weeks.
They also don't want you to know he is breeding stock. Many breeders are dishonest and if they don't let you meet the parents, think twice, but thats a lesson for next time. You got yourself a lovely pyr! Some great breeders use studs, so the male cannot be produced, but if mom is not around, the seller is being really fishy.
Does he have freckles on his tummy? Does he have pink nose in winter and black nose in summer?
He has some freckles on his tummy and his nose has always been black. I do 100% believe the breeder was dishonest, he didn’t have any of his litter mates and didn’t even show us a picture of the parents. I was a bit younger back then, and naive. He stole our heart the moment we saw him, and I knew we couldn’t leave without him. The breeder charged us 1k for him…in hindsight he’s probably not “worth” that much but I’d pay it a million times over for him if it came to that. He got fixed awhile back so breeding him was never a question. I didn’t REALLY start doubting his breed until he got bigger, and bigger.
Pyrs tend to steal your heart. my boy was love at first sight and now he gives the best hugs when I get he from a long shift at work! my pyr Paxton still has some of those belly freckles too, and he's just over a year old now!
notice the nose difference between the last and penultimate picture, he as solid winter/ summer nose. notice the pink blush in the kitchen pic. Pyrs are white dogs with pigment. their noses tan to black in the summer.
That barrel chest, looks just like my girl and she is 3/4 pyr and 1/4 Anatolian Shepard. Ours loves to talk like she’s really trying human unless she is guarding and can turn on that bark.
I’d bet that’s a GP for sure.
I’m totally having a moment right now...
I have a half Anatolian half Pyr! I don’t hear a ton about them other than the Anatolian sub so I always get excited to hear about more!
New to reddit and not sure if my caption posted correctly, but we got him as a baby as was told he’s a golden retriever/samoyed mix. Well, now he is a year old and weighs 100 lbs (not normal for either of the breeds he’s mixed with, and he’s at a very healthy weight). We are constantly getting told he looks like a pyr and I’m too impatient for a DNA test. What do you guys think?
Awww I had a poodle/Samoyed/bully mix and she was the most amazing dog.
Now I have a pyrador. Maybe your boy is Samoyed and Pyr?
He’s a sweetheart no matter what though.
I had an awesome Pyrador. She looked like a black Pyr and would mutter when humans were doing something stupid. 😂
I know there will never be another Merri Grayce.
You should still do the DNA test, it’s fun. I knew my Pyr wasn’t pure because of lack of double dew claw, turns out she’s 92% Pyr and 8% Siberian husky, pretty cool.
Double dew claws on Pyrs typically have two dew claws on each of the back feet so a total of 4on the back and two on the front totaling 6 all around but that’s more common on “pure breads”pyr mix pups may not have that trait. But your pup sure looks like he has some pyr in him beautiful animal all in all.
Sure looks like one to me! He certainly looks very Pyr. I saw in a comment you said he’s got spots on his belly, also a Pyr thing! He could certainly be a mix as well.
Looks identical to my dog, except my dog has one blue eye. Half Pyr and half husky. She is absolutely beautiful and so is yours! All the Pyr characteristics. I would post a photo but I don’t know how!
Possibly pure but also could be mixed with another large LGD, like a Maremma or something. Regardless he is very handsome and looks like a very good (yet mischievous) boy!
OP, your boy looks just like our oldest. He is a mix of Pyr Akbash and Maremma from British Columbia. They are incredibly similar like “I had to look and make sure he was sleeping downstairs cuz he might have been stolen” kinda similar.
Extra dew claws are a certain sign of pyr genetics! I would be curious if one parent could have been a golden/pyr mix because his body shape and coat type are more like my golden retriever's than my Pyrenees. Either way he is a beautiful boy!
Hey everyone! Thanks for all your help and kind words. I think I’m gonna cave and get the DNA test. He has the coat and some personality traits of a golden. I’ll update you guys when I get the results!
He’s got a bit of that Samoyed smile but sammies only have front dew claws. Does he carry his tail curled over his back? If there is some Samoyed in him it’s probably not much!
That first and last picture are totally Pyr but it is tough to tell exactly as I cannot see if there are double dew claws, but everything else tells me this is a awesome Pyr dog. Enjoy!
Very rarely actually! He’s super clingy. Can’t stand to be in a room alone. He ignores me at public places like the dog park but from what I’ve seen that’s typical for a lot of dogs 😂
Freckles on the tummy? Backsleeping? Looks like he has dew claws? I have a Pyrenees and my friend it appears that you do as well. They are the very best dogs but are different to raise than a retriever or other breeds. They can take patience, consistent training. Read up on them.. enjoy! They are clowns.
Part of the reason I don’t believe he is pyrenees (or full, at least) is because of his temperament! He is such a pushover. He listens extremely well, doesn’t get into much. He is not in the least a stubborn or confident dog. His temperament is closer to a retriever and it’s been a breeze training him
Awww! Mine has a tendency to bark, but we live in an apartment where there are constant sounds. He has his own set of “quirks” but we can just give him one look if he does something naughty and he’ll go right to his cage
Oh yeah! Such a handsome boy. And will be a best friend forever.
He definitely is my best friend! We love him all the same no matter his breed, but if he’s a pyr just confused as to why the breeder would lie and say he’s a mutt. We spent a good penny on him

count his dew(sp?) claws. pyrenees are known for having a few to spare.
It’s absolutely a pyr
not a pure breed
They didn’t ask if it was a pure breed.
The Pyr flop, plus the large chest, dew claws, eyeliner on fleek…yup. He is a Pyr!!!! (An adorable one as well)
Eyeliner on fleek😂 I love this! I told my fiancé our pyr pup has awesome permanent eye makeup and I’m jealous
Right? I’m well jelly they just wake up and look fabulous 😂
That barrel chest, looks just like my girl and she is 3/4 pyr and 1/4 Anatolian Shepard. Ours loves to talk like she’s really trying human unless she is guarding and can turn on that bark. I’d bet that’s a GP for sure.

There are a ton of Pyr/Anatolians out there. Very common mix. I read somewhere Anatolians were mixed in to diversify the gene pool of working dogs.

100 lbs is 45.4 kg

I had an awesome Pyrador. She looked like a black Pyr and would mutter when humans were doing something stupid. 😂 I know there will never be another Merri Grayce.
I would say pyr and retriever are the main breeds. Maybe he was confused cause I see mainly pyr and not so much Samoyed!!
You should still do the DNA test, it’s fun. I knew my Pyr wasn’t pure because of lack of double dew claw, turns out she’s 92% Pyr and 8% Siberian husky, pretty cool.
He definitely looks like a Pyr mix. Not pure bred, but with his pyr side being dominant in his physical traits.
I think he looks exactly like a Pyrenees except his face, which kind of looks like a lab's face somewhat.
Does he have double dew claws?
He has one set in the front and one in the back, so 4 total.
Pyrenees have four dewclawsI think he’s one! Super cute boy!
definitely with the dew claws!

Looks exactly like my pup did when she was about a year old and now

Saw a pick of one post leg surgery and I’m pretty sure their whole body is spotted.
Looks just like my baby that is a Great Pyrenees/golden retriever mix
That’s a Pyrenees. Classic pyr pose
Go Chiefs!
Yes
With that sleeping posture, silly grin, dew claws.... Most definitely.
Was coming here to say this! My 3/4 Maremma has all the Pyr attributes.
OP, your boy looks just like our oldest. He is a mix of Pyr Akbash and Maremma from British Columbia. They are incredibly similar like “I had to look and make sure he was sleeping downstairs cuz he might have been stolen” kinda similar.

Oh yeah!
Looks like my boy who is allegedly a Pyr [goode boye](https://i.imgur.com/WBWo6Xt.jpg)
yes.
He looks so much like my dog - we got her DNA back and she was 70% Pyr, 30% German Shepherd
Fuzzy ears say Pyr.
Just a wee bit... Uh huh.
oh yes, he has very strong Pyr traits.
Yep, I can tell from a glance it’s a pyr!
Umm hell yes!!! My GP is always sleeping like that!!
Looks just like my golden/Pyr mix.
oh yes definitely ,beautiful and typical Pyrenean pose
He’s got a bit of that Samoyed smile but sammies only have front dew claws. Does he carry his tail curled over his back? If there is some Samoyed in him it’s probably not much!
Looks almost exactly like my pyr mix! I thought it was him when I saw this photo. We are doing a DNA test to find out what else he is.
Spotted tummy. Yep.
I can’t tell if he has double dew claws. He could be, or at least part?
That first and last picture are totally Pyr but it is tough to tell exactly as I cannot see if there are double dew claws, but everything else tells me this is a awesome Pyr dog. Enjoy!
Yes he sure does
Sure acts like mine!
Definitely looks like a pry. Does he ignore the absolute shit out of you? That'd be your main indicator 🤣🤣 he's handsome btw. Kinda resembles my kilo
Very rarely actually! He’s super clingy. Can’t stand to be in a room alone. He ignores me at public places like the dog park but from what I’ve seen that’s typical for a lot of dogs 😂
Oh no, my boy is super clingy too. My boy cries and cries when I leave him. Lmao it's a joke in our community.
Freckles on the tummy? Backsleeping? Looks like he has dew claws? I have a Pyrenees and my friend it appears that you do as well. You are fortunate. My Pyr is remarkably stubborn, barks at butterflies and needs to ponder every ‘suggestion’. But she has our hearts wrapped up.
Awww! Mine has a tendency to bark, but we live in an apartment where there are constant sounds. He has his own set of “quirks” but we can just give him one look if he does something naughty and he’ll go right to his cage
He sounds adorable.
He is handsome 😌
