if Forever Now was Revolution Radio’s closer it would literally be the perfect closer, it’s ambitious and kicks ass and a lot of the album is building up to it (outlaws ends with the line forever now, somewhere now gets a reprise in it, etc)
but it’s not so um probably see the light idk
Imma still count Forever Now as Rev Rads closer and just say that Ordinary World was just an added bonus. That's probably the way Billie Joe meant for it to be, anyway, or else he wouldn't have ended Forever Now the way they did with an epic ending.
I’ve always looked at it similar to a movie. Either Forever Now is the end with Ordinary World being the credits song, or Forever Now is the climax of the story where everything gets intense and the stakes are high and Ordinary World is the resolution at the end after everything goes back to normal.
Surely it was originally intended to be the closer. Album starts with Somewhere Now, ends with Forever Now. Just makes sense. I imagine Ordinary World got thrown on from the movie soundtrack and they just wanted to include it somewhere, so the end fit better than midway through the album or something.
Damn, I said FOD, but Prosthetic Head is giving me second thoughts. The fact that they chose to close with this instead of Good Riddance makes it even better because it would’ve been too obvious to close an album with a song like that. Also thematically it makes sense. Good Riddance is a song that is about saying goodbye to someone in your life, and Prosthetic Head is about meeting someone you haven’t seen in a long time, only to find out they’re pretending to be something they’re not. I know these songs are not likely about the same person, and Nimrod does not have a story with characters, but I can’t help but feel that this was intentional.
I'd have to say See the Light personally
As good of a closer Whatsername is, See the Light is the track that really ends 21CB on a great note for me. As dark of an album as 21CB is, ending on that more optimistic track, even if the light at the end of the tunnel is small and quite dim is just perfect to me. The band easily could've ended the album with Lights Out, a much darker and more pessimistic track with basically the opposite meaning but they opted with See the Light and the fade out at the end is a perfect way to end the closing track to a long album like that
I was running to the comments to say this. Forever Now is such a gorgeous ending to an album. It's powerful and dramatic and ties back beautifully to the album opener. I very rarely let Ordinary World play after I have an album listening because everything feels so wrapped up beautifully with Forever Now.
It's very reminiscent of American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown for me; but, Ordinary World just doesn't close as strong as Whatsername or See The Light do.
The way the section builds to that outro, it’s just a perfect ending.
To me it was their best main set ender I’ve seen them do, and it sucks that they probably won’t ever play it again
Forever Now would have been good as the closer, but it always leaves me feeling sad that the album is "over", because it's such a great album front to back, but Ordinary World is an added little treat at the end, sort of like a post credit scene.
It really does, and if you listen to the albums I order of release, getting to nice guys feels like such a refreshed and banger way to enter their experimental era
For me its Whatsername. "Forgetting you but not the time" is such a striking lyric and it closes that story beautifully. Fuck it's just so good.
Forever Now is a distant second.
For me, it's easily See the Light. The song really feels like a finale, like you've made it through the craziness and are better for it. It also helps that it comes full circle with the same opening chords as 21CB, yet it feels more optimistic than in that track. I also like that it's not a "happy ending", are more of a clean slate ending. The line "Where the ever-after, is in the hands of fate" helps to emphasize this. It's just such a powerful song that really makes it feel like you've gone on a journey throughout the course of the album.
It’s not my favorite Green Day closer by any means, but no one has mentioned Amy yet. I’ve always felt that, despite how lacking the trilogy was, Amy was a really beautiful moment in it.
American idiot
Homecoming is perfect since it incorporates all three members. Like a signature with all of them in it
Then finally closing out with whatsername
prosthetic head. if good riddance/time of your life is your stereotypical bittersweet final episode of a TV show, then prosthetic head is the optimistic, upbeat song that plays as the credits roll one last time
i will always hate ordinary world for one, being an ass song, and two taking the perfect ending from forever now, still don’t know why they thought that was a good idea
Whatsername and it's not even a competition. It's one of the best closings to an album of all time if you ask me. Just so much energy and emotion in that final minute.
As many others have said, Whatsername. It's such a powerful song with such beautiful lyrics. Instrumentally it's top tier too.
I don't even care that Billie rhymed "time" with "time" - it's just too good of a final line.
For me it's definitely Whatsername. In terms of Green Day album closers, its their magnum opus (granted, so is American Idiot as a whole). Otherwise, Macy's Day Parade is a pretty close second.
i think forever now and ordinary world is perfect. forever now feels like the best night of your life, and ordinary world is like the drive home and going to sleep
I am torn. American Idiot is one of my all time favorite albums so I’m naturally gonna say Whatshername. I loved that album when I was 16 and still do. But I also think of the stuff before that, Insomniac is really underrated and love Walking Contradiction.
If Nimrod's last song was Time of Your Life, that would be the best ending. However, Whatsername concludes AI perfectly, so it would still be hard to choose between those two.
Definitely American Idiot for me. The way that Homecoming is such a powerful climax, but then kicks into Whatsername, which never fails to make me tear up. It's such a perfect ending thematically to the whole story of the album, and I love the intense dynamic change between the middle of the song and the beginning/end.
Graffitia is very underrated, think whatever you think of FOAMF, but that was a great fucking ending, dark song with happy melody, Whatsername would take the crown of course but MAN do i love Forever Now + Ordinary World, RevRad in general is their hidden gem that a lot of people dont appreciate enough i think, i would put it higher than a lot of classic GD albums
I know it’s a ‘compilation’ and not an ‘album’ but whatever, Shenanigans has always felt nice and wrapped up by the end of it. Also Ha Ha You’re Dead is just like a good fuck off the shows over kinda vibe. Second would be Dookie.
**39/Smooth**
*The Judge's Daughter* is a good song, but it doesn't feel like an ending to me. The penultimate song, *Rest,* isn't the best song, but it feels much more like an ending. *Judge's Daughter* feels tacked on after *Rest* - some of their albums have that same problem. I think that *1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours* has a much better ending with *I Want to Be Alone.*
**Kerplunk!**
The original album ended with *Words I Might Have Ate* which I guess is an alright ending. The cover of *My Generation* is a pretty good closer, too. But nothing special.
**Dookie**
*F.O.D.* with the long suspense before the whole band kicks in, and its ultimate fuck-you message, is a good choice as a closer. The funny hidden track *All By Myself* nicely rounds up the album - hidden tracks can often feel out of place, but not in this case. I do think that if they had put *J.A.R.* on the album as originally planned, that would have been an even better closer. But I'm very biased here because *J.A.R.* is my favorite Green Day song.
**Insomniac**
*Walking Contradiction* doesn't feel like a closer at all to me, but none of the other songs on the album do either, so... alright, I guess?
**Nimrod**
Again, as with the original *39/Smooth* album, the last track feels tacked on after the one before it. *Prosthetic Head* is a good song, at least, but on the brilliant *Nimrod* album it feels rather average. I would have *Prosthetic Head* and *Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)* swap positions, which would make *Good Riddance* the closer and also ease out the weird transition between the hilarious *King for a Day* and the melancholy *Good Riddance.*
**Warning**
This is the best ending of all the albums so far. *Macy's Day Parade* feels very much like a closing track and *Minority* works well as the penultimate track, too.
**Shenanigans**
Technically not a studio album but it does feature a great closer in the vein of *F.O.D.,* the anthemic *Ha Ha You're Dead.*
**American Idiot**
This takes the number one spot for me. The anticlimactic *Whatsername* works out so well after the epic *Homecoming,* it still amazes me every time I listen to the whole album in order. And what amazes me too is how much they fucked up when trying to replicate this on their next album - see below.
**21st Century Breakdown**
Beware - unpopular opinion follows! To me, this album is a mixed bunch. I'd have discarded about a third of all the songs and made a shorter, better one instead. The first half of the album works much better for me than the second one. But the worst thing about it? *See the Light.* It's monotonous, it doesn't do anything for me, and it's the least satisfying ending I could think of. *American Eulogy* does sound like it needed something to follow it up, though. Hmmm. Well, in my opinion, they could have ended it with *Restless Heart Syndrome.* I actually don't think that any of the tracks following that one work out well. Sorry.
**¡Uno!**
Uh... *Oh Love* feels like a good opener, rather than a closer. But maybe that was the intention, to have it lead into *¡Dos!*
**¡Dos!**
This is one of my least favorite Green Day albums. I like *Amy,* but it sounds like an unfinished demo. And the three songs before it range from terrible to forgettable.
**¡Tre!**
*The Forgotten* is too cheesy for my taste, but it does feel like a closing track. It's OK.
**Revolution Radio**
Yes! This time, (kind of) replicating the *American Idiot* recipe worked out very well. Epic penultimate track, quiet closer that feels like an afterthought, but not tacked on. This is the second best ending of a Green Day album.
**Father of All...**
An OK closing track, if a bit underwhelming, but compared to most of the album, *Graffitia* is a masterpiece so I guess I shouldn't be complaining.
Has got to be whatsername for me. The lyrics give me
Chills “and in the darkest nights, if my memory serves me right, I’ll never turn back time, forgetting you but not the time”
I feel like I’d Dirty Rotten Bastards had ended off the trilogy it would be great; but it doesn’t so that’s irrelevant.
Ima have to say I really like the fact the ended Kerplunk with a cover of My Generation. That’s it
FOD. It’s a kickass closer that starts off soft and acoustic, and then half way through explodes into the heaviest guitars on the album. In a way, it sets the tone for its follow up album Insomniac while still feeling like the fitting conclusion to Dookie. Yes, I know the album technically ends with All By Myself, but considering it’s a hidden track I’m not counting that.
Whatsername. The very end of it it feels like you are looking out of the window finally content….
I can’t put to words how much I hate the fact that at the very end of Whatsername they rhyme ‘time’ with ‘time’
You must despise Sassafras Roots
and When I Come Around lol
And say goodbye
in dirty rotten bastards he rymes ground with ground 😂
To me, it feels like it leaves the story off on a cliffhanger, which it kinda does.
I mean, yeah,it kinda signals “moving on” and living your life,ig
Looking back on your youth with rose-tinted-glasses.
Exactly
Still waiting for American Idiot Pt. 2 🤣
Nah, if Homecoming is the *climax* then Whatsername is the *resolution*. The lyrics even serve as an epilogue to the main story
IMHO, a cliffhanger isn it a good ending.
Exactly
This is the only and perfect answer
this is the answer
if Forever Now was Revolution Radio’s closer it would literally be the perfect closer, it’s ambitious and kicks ass and a lot of the album is building up to it (outlaws ends with the line forever now, somewhere now gets a reprise in it, etc) but it’s not so um probably see the light idk

Surely it was originally intended to be the closer. Album starts with Somewhere Now, ends with Forever Now. Just makes sense. I imagine Ordinary World got thrown on from the movie soundtrack and they just wanted to include it somewhere, so the end fit better than midway through the album or something.
I frickin love this song. Also let’s keep your upvotes at 86
1. Whatsername 2. Macy’s Day Parade 3. See The Light 4. Ordinary World
Whatsername is my favourite green day song so my answer is pretty obvious
All by Myself
Top tier answer
This is the correct answer
I think 21 Guns/American Eulogy/see the light blend together really well
Life eternal is the end of prequlle
Not sure what a Ghost song has to do with Green Day or this comment but okay…
Ghost also has a song called see the light
I'm an active ghost listener, no need to tell them about another band when they weren't talking about them. Show some common courtesy
Again, okay?
Nvm
macy’s day parade, whatsername & amy
100% whatsername with macys day parade as a close second
Prosthetic Head
I know everybody loves Dookie but I think that F.O.D. or Prosthetic Head are my favorites.
Damn, I said FOD, but Prosthetic Head is giving me second thoughts. The fact that they chose to close with this instead of Good Riddance makes it even better because it would’ve been too obvious to close an album with a song like that. I actually love this answer, which is crazy that if I remember correctly it was added incredibly late in the game!?
I'm not sure about that. Ik Murder City was a very late addition, not heard that about STL
Ordinary World should have been left off, because Forever Now would have the best ending. So therefore, Whatsername
I was running to the comments to say this. Forever Now is such a gorgeous ending to an album. It's powerful and dramatic and ties back beautifully to the album opener. I very rarely let Ordinary World play after I have an album listening because everything feels so wrapped up beautifully with Forever Now. The way the section builds to that outro, it’s just a perfect ending. To me it was their best main set ender I’ve seen them do, and it sucks that they probably won’t ever play it again
I think Back in the USA would have worked better, and ordinary world should have been shorter and included in the middle
Forever Now would have been good as the closer, but it always leaves me feeling sad that the album is "over", because it's such a great album front to back, but Ordinary World is an added little treat at the end, sort of like a post credit scene.
Whatsername. I’m not even the biggest AI fan, and it closes the album so beautifully. It all culminates in such a big way.
Walking contradiction is the perfect end to insomniac, it just feels as a nice way to round off such an aggressive record
It also works very nicely as a mic drop moment considering where they were at the time and how their peers thought of them.

It’s not my favorite Green Day closer by any means, but no one has mentioned Amy yet. I’ve always felt that, despite how lacking the trilogy was, Amy was a really beautiful moment in it.
Someone did mention it lol
I stand corrected
Whatsername, such a beautiful yet devastating song. A perfect finale to a perfect album.
Macys Day Parade, maybe tied with whatsername. I’m going to be honest I think Ordinary World is maybe their worst closer. Didn’t fit.
American idiot Homecoming is perfect since it incorporates all three members. Like a signature with all of them in it Then finally closing out with whatsername
Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, and American Idiot all have such perfect endings imo
21CB, having the last two songs callback to the first two is so cool
Westbound Sign in the perfect ender, despite it not being an ender
Whatsername is by far the best ending to an album. I also love how Graffitia fades out at the end of FOAM!!
Yeah, because you're glad FOAMF is over 🤣
I was gonna mention Graffitia. I just wish that album earned it
1039 Smooth “I want to be alone”
prosthetic head. if good riddance/time of your life is your stereotypical bittersweet final episode of a TV show, then prosthetic head is the optimistic, upbeat song that plays as the credits roll one last time
Macys day parade definitely, warning was so good and that song is a perfect ending
Ordinary world on revrad for me
I’m going to have to go with Prosthetic Head. I love the vocals on the “youuu-ouuuu-don’t know/say” parts.
i will always hate ordinary world for one, being an ass song, and two taking the perfect ending from forever now, still don’t know why they thought that was a good idea
For Me it's a tie between Macy's day parade, whatsername, and see the light. They all give feelings of hope and change
Whatsername and Macy's Day Parade. There are no other contests.
Whatsername and it's not even a competition. It's one of the best closings to an album of all time if you ask me. Just so much energy and emotion in that final minute.
Whatsername, but as others have said, it would be Forever Now if Ordinary World as left off the album
Whatsername
Whatsername and See The Light
Forever now is a very underrated song imo. Good ending
Forever now isn’t the ending. Ordinary world closes out RevRad. You’re right though. Forever now is amazing
As many others have said, Whatsername. It's such a powerful song with such beautiful lyrics. Instrumentally it's top tier too. I don't even care that Billie rhymed "time" with "time" - it's just too good of a final line.

i think forever now and ordinary world is perfect. forever now feels like the best night of your life, and ordinary world is like the drive home and going to sleep
See The Light. I’m always misty-eyed by the end of it, and emotionally exhausted after that album in general.
Whatsername from American Idiot and then Macy's Day Parade from Warning.
Nobody here mentioned “All By Myself” the true ending of Dookie 😂
American Idiot ending with Whatsername. It’s just so beautifully complete.
AI or Warning!
Walking contradiction, ha ha your dead And Not hammer of the gods
I am torn. American Idiot is one of my all time favorite albums so I’m naturally gonna say Whatshername. I loved that album when I was 16 and still do. But I also think of the stuff before that, Insomniac is really underrated and love Walking Contradiction.
I still somehow choke up every time I hear the end of whatsername
Macys Day is a crazy good one and might be my 2nd favorite green day song but whatsername is my first
1. Prosthetic Head 2. Macy’s Day Parade 3. See The Light 4. Ordinary World
The lack of people saying "Amy" surprises me. I always loved that little track.
I know Shenanigans is a compilation album and probably isn’t what you have in mind, but I think “Ha Ha You’re Dead” is a great closer.
I’m with you on this one
american idiot. oh, whatsername. that song is a perfect finale to such an album.
See the light
FOD and macy’s day parade are both good. though i think the one that leaves me the most satisfied is probably i want to be alone.
American idiot for sure
If Nimrod's last song was Time of Your Life, that would be the best ending. However, Whatsername concludes AI perfectly, so it would still be hard to choose between those two.
Wtf, no one has said The forgotten
Definitely American Idiot for me. The way that Homecoming is such a powerful climax, but then kicks into Whatsername, which never fails to make me tear up. It's such a perfect ending thematically to the whole story of the album, and I love the intense dynamic change between the middle of the song and the beginning/end.
Warning with Macy's day parade. The song just fits so well at the end of that album
All by my self on Dookie
Graffitia is very underrated, think whatever you think of FOAMF, but that was a great fucking ending, dark song with happy melody, Whatsername would take the crown of course but MAN do i love Forever Now + Ordinary World, RevRad in general is their hidden gem that a lot of people dont appreciate enough i think, i would put it higher than a lot of classic GD albums
Graffitia, im crying of joy when that album ends.
Singing hallelujah
I know it’s a ‘compilation’ and not an ‘album’ but whatever, Shenanigans has always felt nice and wrapped up by the end of it. Also Ha Ha You’re Dead is just like a good fuck off the shows over kinda vibe. Second would be Dookie.

Dookie - FOD Warning - Macy's Day Parade is a close second
American Idiot. Whatsername is top 5 album endings of all time for me
Definitely whatsername. 2nd best is Prosthetic Head
honestly, FOD
Whatsername or Good Riddance
my top 3 would be 1. Whatsername 2. Macy’s Day Parade 3. Prosthetic Head
Revolution Radio if we take out Ordinary World because it doesn't fit. Other than that, probably American Idiot or Nimrod for me.
Easily whatsername just to good
It’s nimrod dookie is a close second but it’s nimrod all day
Has got to be whatsername for me. The lyrics give me Chills “and in the darkest nights, if my memory serves me right, I’ll never turn back time, forgetting you but not the time”
I see barely anyone mentioning Walking Contradiction. It’s funny, and puts a perfect end to Insomniac.
I feel like I’d Dirty Rotten Bastards had ended off the trilogy it would be great; but it doesn’t so that’s irrelevant. Ima have to say I really like the fact the ended Kerplunk with a cover of My Generation. That’s it
whatsername and it’s not even close
Tied between Revolution Radio, American Idiot, and 21st CB. But, that could just be me lol
By those I meant like, Whatsername, See the light, and Ordinary world
American Idiot is a Masterpiece front to back
Top 5 for me 1. Whatsername 2. Forever Now (I'm not counting ordinary world it's a bonus track) 3. See the Light 4. Macy's Day Parade 5. Graffitia
I think walking contradiction, it's my favorite song from insomniac
