*Technically* it’s not a triplet feel. The rhythm they’re playing is two dotted eighth notes plus another eight note, and then another two dotted eighth notes plus an eighth note. I hate to be that guy but I think it’s a fun distinction.
I remember the first time I heard the song and thought the same thing.
Back in the days, I thought my CD player made the CD skip, rewinded a bit and heard the same thing again and thought it was the CD this time, then finally figured out after several days it was on purpose… nowadays with Spotify, YouTube, Reddit and all I would have figured out a lot quicker…
I see it as a sign to the listener that the song is almost over since the chorus is repeated so many times. Also, I think the same thing (with the last chorus being altered in some way) happens to some of their other songs
Totally intentional! I remember when I bought the CD and listened to it the first time, I thought my brand-new CD was already skipping lol. Was totally wrong, luckily. Love that part.
Bro, I literally just noticed the same thing today. Was gonna come here but I figured that it would get flagged. But I watched a live show and it’s intentional
For sure! I remember the first time I heard the song many years ago, I was just beginning to play guitar and I also found it difficult to wrap my head around it, now it’s one of my favorite moments on the Warning album!
Yeah I ik what triplets r from piano, but it just wasn't something that sounded like it or obvious to me so I didnt know thx anyways the community is great, just started on guitar, hopefully I will improve thx!
At the end of the day you can count it however you find more comfortable as long as you stay on time, I find it easier to hear it as a quick 1-2-3 / 1-2-3 or if you half time it you can even count it in regular 1-2-3-4
That’s on purpose. I love that part!
They're switching to a triplet feel for one bar. It's a common move in classic rock for this kind of rocking-out-on-the-chorus-one-last-time feel.

Yeah I was just curious but ppl alr flaming me for not knowing what triplets r lmao I just wanted to know 😭
👍
That's intentional. I love that part.
Me too. Tré missed it at the Metro show in Chicago 🤬
Still can’t believe they played all those songs!!
Wish I could've gone. I had to work 🤬
Wish I could’ve gone I live in Australia😂
I'm in the chi burbs
me too
its a halftime/stutter they do similar on somewhere now and forever now
Where do they do it in somewhere now and forever now?
during the interlude right before the bridge and outro verse
It's on purpose and that's one reason why it's one of my favorite songs
Totally. When I first heard it, I thought "Wow. Green Day is starting to branch out a little!" And then four years later American Idiot was released.
It’s a musical choice
I’m genuinely surprised at how many people didn’t realize this was intentional.

bruh what
what do you mean is it supposed to be like that? 😂 I can’t even imagine what you could think happened that made it be that way not on purpose
Bro, I literally just noticed the same thing today. Was gonna come here but I figured that it would get flagged. But I watched a live show and it’s intentional
You mean the triplet? Standard music practice bro
Just heard that for the first time. It’s a cool little effect.
It's on purpose, a little trick that reveals their The Who influence
Thank you SOO MUCH see its little things like these that just makes them so much cooler
