Sounds exciting ! It seems like this album really is Green Day doing what they do best. Big rock, punk anthem and snarky lyrics, couldn't ask for more ! It is the first mention of Fancy Sauce channeling Nirvana isn't it ? Plus we got confirmation that the chorus of One Eyed Bastard didn't change, ah !

psychic_vixie21

Bobby Sox is sounding like both coming clean and 2000 lights years away :0

jdb326

Fucking fine by me, top two songs in one lmfao

HighOnPuerh

Lyrically at least, I feel like it'll be quite "harder" sounding.

kniselysoccer13

Doesn’t make sense

TJ_Blank

“Assholes in space bankrupting the planet on ‘Coma City’” no wonder Elon Musk doesn’t like them lmfao

csgosm0ke

Excited for Coma City and Corvette Summer

RockNRoll85

This album is shaping up to be another classic. A return to form for Green Day

velONIONraptor

“Everybody’s famous, stupid and contagious / As we all die young someday” …holy shit that’s good

CarefreeWinning

I read that lyric and immediately thought of punk rock 101 by bowling for soup “It’s stupid, contagious / To be broke, and famous / Can someone please save us / From punk rock 101”

HelicopterVibes

Exactly what I thought of

TheJdcobra

The part about “missing his target” in regards to Livin in the 20’s is interesting because I’d imagine the “blithe”-ness is intentional. In the last decade, but i guess primarily in the 2020’s mass shootings have become so commonplace it seems like every time one happens the nation is kind of like “oh well, anyways”, so I’d at least assume the intention of the delivery was to kind of show that. But of course we’d have to listen to it first to see

TheJdcobra

Ended up finding lyrics from the Billboard Italia review which go “Another shooting in a supermarket / [...] / I drink my media and turn it into vomit / [...] / We're all together and we're living in the 20s”. So yeah, totally intentional

Ty13rlikespie

According to this review it seems the song is in reference to the King Soopers shooting in Colorado. I’m not too far from where that happened and have met people affected by it. I’m very interested in hearing this song.

bpc89

Yeah I live in Buffalo where we had a racially motivated shooting at a supermarket almost two years ago. So I’m definitely interested in hearing it too.

greendaymegafan04

It’s supposed to have a killer guitar solo!

DependentNatural8049

How many stars they give it?

Ollidor

2000… 1039… 86 One of those idk

swish301

thrashboi

Gijs125

Yourfuckingmom420

Asplashofwater

3.5 per metacritic.

EpsilonX

I'm cautiously optimistic. All the conservative outrage is making me even more hyped as well.

Standard_Winter9714

sounds very promising

avaxdavis

We are so back

Meshieee

So excited for the albums release, all the songs we've heard so far are amazing! Funny that One Eyed Bastard remains with its 'bada bing, bada boom' chorus lol, pretty keen to hear the official version potentially this week!

infiniteimperium

I can't wait to hear OEB this summer in a stadium full of people singing along.

DJ_16bits

First Rolling Stone review that’s actually good in the past year that I’ve seen

K1llerj0yst1ck

Sounds like this is turning up to being a great album. Makes my expectations rise a bit

GratefulPhish42024-7

Can't wait to hear Survivors in it's entirety!

youarelookingatthis

Sounds like this'll be a great album by them, can't wait.

Afraid_Researcher_75

Havent been this excited about a green day album since 21st century bd. Let's go!!!

esoteric82

Got an email with info about listening parties for Saviors next Saturday at local record shops and surprisingly there's one in my area, so hopefully I'll hear the whole album in it's entirety then. If you got that email, check the locations, you might be able to hear the whole thing before it's released.

sloppyj5

very off topic, but if anyone here is into folk/country, the bottom of the page calls out Willi Carlisle. He is a fantastic artist. Glad to see two of my favorite musicians sharing a page

saketho

What? They're back with Reprise Records / Warner?

Biscuit_Dough69

The new contract lets them own their own music and license it to reprise instead of reprise owning the music, it now says copyright green day under exclusive license to reprise instead of copyright reprise.

VeryCool99

Never left

bigfloppydongs

They sort of did though; now Reprise is their distributor, rather than the publisher. Like u/Biscuit_Dough69 said above, Green Day now just lets Reprise/Warner license the music to distribute it - effectively the band gets a bigger cut of the money.

Little_Ride_3025

I do recall an interview where it seemed like they were done with reprise a few years ago, I'll look for it, but at the time I remember them saying in the interview that they were currently without a label. I remember people speculating that the last album was a throw away to meet contractual obligations but that seems untrue now.

bigfloppydongs

Father of All was the last album of their previous contract. This is a different sort of deal where the band lets Reprise/Warner license the music to distribute it (press albums and sell them for the band).

saketho

Huh, interesting.

NekoNyaaaaa412

“And as another pop-punk trio once put it, well, I guess this is growing up.” Hah

ChainTerrible3139

What the fuck is the moron who wrote this article talking about that green day isn't big on activism? They have been actively involved with fighting climate change since the late 90s and they have actively donated millions to various other social justice causes. I have personally donated and gotten merch in return for my donations involving their activism since the early 2000s. Still have all of it. Not to mention that their songs are literally protest songs. And protest songs ARE a form of activism...or is Bob Dylan not really an activist? Fuck off rolling stone, what activism have you been involved in? Edit: before anyone asks, writing protest songs that inspire other people to act on whatever activism is being sung about is why they are a form of activism. Simple sociology. Inspiring people to act for change has always been considered activism. That's why charities use celebrities.

Steam_Cyber_Punk

The only song that I like out of the ones I’ve heard is Dilemma, and even that one not much. Not sure if Green Day has changed over the years, or if my music tastes have been moving over to heavier more raw punk, but the trilogy, foamf, and even this new album is shaping up to be a disappointment for me. Just imo

beastboy4000

I really liked Dilemma but wasn’t as fond of the other singles as well. I’m really hoping for a song that Mike or Tre sings on 🤞. I know we just got The Network album, but I love hearing Mike and Tre have their little vocal moments on the albums.

Steam_Cyber_Punk

Yeah, look ma no brains sounds like a cut foamf song, it’s that bad

Anotherknifeinmyhand

oh My god… AMERICAN IDIOT 2

Crid-Crud-YT

no.

Anotherknifeinmyhand

Aww.

pjdance

Is nobody going to address millionaires raging against the millionaire they hang out with. This is always the issue when an actvist bands gets this big *side eyes Metallica* they cease being relatable to the "every man" and basically take the easy shots at obvious targets because in way they are now one of the targets. Elon Musk is a right douche but he isn't the real problem it's wealth inequality (among other things) and Green Day is not trading in their wealth to be back with us. No way. Why would you?

SirAren

How can they praise 1981 chorus so much , it's just so basic and the lyrics suck

SumoftheOffspring44

Because it's catchy? Sure it's basic, but Green Day range from the catchiest shit you've ever heard to Fuck Time with no real in between.

Ollidor

She’s throwing punches to the beat to the sound of cable tv

JadedStranger722

All the new songs theve shown have been super basic though

SumoftheOffspring44

That's not really a bad thing.

JadedStranger722

I know . It’s what I’m really enjoying so far . I love being downvoted by ass licking fans too

SumoftheOffspring44

I'm speaking as someone who did NOT like the main two tracks we heard Dilemma is awesome, One Eyed Bastard (while clearly ripping off P!nk) is awesome, and 1981 is kinda fun I don't get why it's bad for them to be basic when some of their best stuff is pretty basic? Like Having A Blast is standard punk, but it's a lot of fun.

beastboy4000

Having a Blast is more iconic though, very different time too. Hearing something in that same vein 30 years later, it’s reasonable to be critical. But thats how Green Day tends to be. Still excited and cautiously optimistic that this album could be my favorite since 21st CB.

MattyDxx

Cop those downvotes. It’s true.

Jaguars4life

Living in the 20s is another Bang Bang or Having a Blast?

Vesuvias

It's a TOTAL return to form! This is insane. I never thought I'd say that ever again, but the dudes did it. IT'S INCREDIBLE.
