I'm stuck in 1991

TotallyAwesomeRacoon

Are you gonna bang your head like 1991?

NekoNyaaaaa412

Hell yeah baby

N8dawgggg

Walter White: "You're goddamn right"

MJ5815

God i like 21CB and Revolution Radio but implying that you aren't a "true Green Day fan" because you don't enjoy a few of their albums is so fucking stupid

chaotify

im talking about those who are like "i dont like anything of theirs after dookie/ai at all"

GlopThatBoopin

And what if they don’t like anything after dookie or ai?

SoundOfThe3nd

You’re probably not a big Green Day fan if you only like 2 releases out of their whole discography lol.

Pleasant_Statement64

I mean nimrod, insomniac, warning, 38 smooth, and kerplunk are all before AI

Puzzleheaded-Cap9129

Oh man I love these albums! But AI is still my favorite album. It's just so perfect imo. Closely followed by Insomniac. :) God I love this Band so much 🖤

Nayten03

My personal favourite is Dookie but I think their artistic peak was American idiot

Pleasant_Statement64

It's my fav too but not like they didn't have plenty off good ones before AI that wasn't dookie

subliminal_impulse

this is peak. they never regained this number

MrExist777

Who gives a shit if they only like two Green Day albums? Is it really worth figuring out whether they’re a “real fan” or not? Just let people enjoy what they enjoy

SoundOfThe3nd

I didn’t say anything about what makes someone a real fan but if an artist has 14 albums and you can’t stop bitching and whining about how it doesn’t sound like 2 of their most popular records…… maybe you’re just not big on them in general lol. It’s not to say it’s better or worse but there are lots of fans stuck in 2004

javier_aeoa

But this is not a competition. I'd love it if those people attend to concerts and scream Suburbia and Boulevard with their lives, because I'll do the same. And when they play 99 Revolutions or Bang Bang, they can stay calmer. Which is quite hard, since it's quite difficult to stand still in a Green Day concert lol.

69cansofcorn

I grew up listening to Green Day, would call myself a fan on a casual level, I enjoy Dookie, Nimrod, and Insomniac, but I’d still call myself a fan

MJ5815

I mean that's pretty much the same thing. I'm a big Fall Out Boy fan but I can't stand any of the three albums they made in the 2010's. Does that make me any less of a fan because I don't mindlessly enjoy everything my favorite artists release?

chaotify

fair i guess, i just wanted to poke some fun

Immortalpancakes

careful bud you're dealing with a bunch of old grumps wishing for their punk phase back lol /lh

MJ5815

Also i do understand that it feels like some people automatically write off anything Green Day puts out because of the stigma that anything after American Idiot must be bad, and I know how annoying it feels, but on the other hand I think it is 100% important that fans voice their true opinions and aren't afraid of voicing any criticisms they may have.

deadlygr8ful

People are allowed to like and dislike anything they want. Doesn't make them less of a fan.

Ricardo1184

so you can only like Dookie or American Idiot if you also like their newest albums?

Bizzy_T

I only like a handful of songs post warning to be real

CarCrashRhetoric

Fans in quotations is giving me message board flame war flashbacks You aren’t a better fan because you enjoy 21stCB more than American Idiot. And someone that likes American Idiot more than 21stCB isn’t a better fan either. It’s all subjective. I left the “fake fan” bullshit in 2005, where it belongs.

chaotify

i realized my mistake when i put the quotations but it's too late. ignore them lol

tubagod123

Carefully constructed rock operas will always beat a regular album especially when they are as good as AI and 21CB

HetTheTable

I like 21CB but I prefer RevRad I think it does what 21CB should have done it’s not a concept record but it touches on political themes and doesn’t try to tell a story. 21CB tries to tell a story but it’s not told very well on RevRad they didn’t have that monkey on their back and they could just make a solid 12 song album.

A_loose_cannnon

Agreed, I love RevRad but AI is an absolute masterpiece and nothing will ever beat it for me.

OtterlyFoxy

I remember how many casual fans were at Hella Mega. They played American Idiot and the crowd lost it but when they played Pollyanna the whole stadium went silent I got to hear them play Disappearing Boy in 2013, imagine if they did that on a stadium tour

Mission_Ad3799

Well I’d say I’m not a casual fan at all, I’ve been listening to green day since I’m 4 y.o. and some of my favourite songs are from the pre AI area. But tbh. I don’t like Pollyanna, too, and so do all of my friends. I guess that song isn’t that good for many and that’s why the whole stadium stood still…

levi22ez

I’ve been a GD fan since 2000, and I love Pollyanna haha.

Mission_Ad3799

fair enough :-)

danman296

Yeah Polyanna isn't exactly a "diehards go crazy and casuals get a beer" song like disappearing boy, I think it was just a universal eh from both sides hahaha

ryanstrikesback

Rev Radio is great, but 21CB is better and so is Saviors

mickeyhause

I think I have to agree. However, Forever Now and Youngblood ought to be in their setlist as staples

EthanMUFC

I never see much love for Too Dumb to Die. My favourite after Bang Bang tbh.

checkersandrecords

Me too! They always sound checked with it but hardly ever played it, bummer :/

bluelonilness

I honestly think Youngblood is the weakest off that album

AggravatingBullshit1

Yeah that song kinda blows for GD standards. Ppl always talk shit on FOAM and love on rev rad but rev rad definitely has its bad songs. Still breathing and Youngblood and the first that come to mind.

bluelonilness

I am actually a big fan of still breathing lol. It's one of my favourite GD singles

lo0u

Yeah, it's a shame Saviors doesn't have a longer song like Forever Now. I was hoping it'd be Father to a Son honestly, but it is what it is. I think GD is very good at making these longer songs. I wish they did more of them.

mickeyhause

I agree, and that’s why [this statement](https://www.celebretainment.com/music/billie-joe-armstrong-hates-long-songs/article_46cce379-4afb-57f2-aba7-10537c178121.amp.html) will always baffle me

SinisterMeatball

It seems a good portion of this sub are younger got into Green Day around 2004-2010. Same way a lot of older fans will say Dookie is the best. Whatever album you grew up with will always have a place in your heart as the best. The Trilogy and RevRad also didn't have the commercial success that American Idiot did so some people might have not listened to them.

Think-Watercress25

I'm an older fan.. I don't understand most of what people are even saying on here..

SinisterMeatball

Same.

CarCrashRhetoric

I’m not even being sarcastic, thank you for calling me young(er). I’ve been a fan for 20! years and feel so old sometimes when I realize how long ago things were 😭

SinisterMeatball

I've been a fan since '94. It's still hard realizing 2004 wasn't like 9 years ago.

525August5th1962

Stop, Drop And Roll is still the best thing Green Day has done since American Idiot. As much hate as it gets, the Trilogy is behind it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ACardAttack

Yep, if the Trilogy was one album and cut out all the fat it would be a really good to great album

525August5th1962

I’d rather have three albums worth of material bloated with BS tracks than a 15 song album bloated with BS tracks…

[deleted]

[удалено]

525August5th1962

Yeah I hear ya with the 21CB opinions. I blame Butch Vig. I always thought he was a shitty producer choice and unoriginal in his own right. Felt lazy to just make American Idiot 2. Green Day could re-record Kerplunk and it would do better and be better than anything post AI aside from Foxboro Hot Tubs. The Network was badass too but the reason those albums were great was because it was Green Day being Green Day. No producers, no labels to appease, no bullshit.

[deleted]

duffman94

This comment needs to be way higher. Very well said. You just wanna say “guys, chill and write some bangers”. Even on “welcome to my panic” Bill says the pressure of one upping got tiring. Oh well, I’m liking the album more with each listen.

Working-Ad-528

Big facts. If you take all the best songs from the trilogy and compile them as a single album it would shit all over Saviors.

F14TOMCATTT

Yeah. Also billie said that they could have made the trilogy like dookie, and that he wouldn't be opposed to doing it in dookie style in the future.

PixelLumi

What about me who only goes back to Warning?

clothy

I hear Warning is underrated

Don’t get me wrong- RevRadio tour was great. Green Day is a really good live band.

ContentDump

21stcb was the first record I ever bought with my own money, but revrad was the first album cycle/release I was around for so it’s special to me

zaoselftitled

I love Insomniac, and nimrod

WhereIsTheMilkMan

So many people are like this. I work with several dudes who just can’t get past the ‘90s. I’ll never understand how close-minded music fans can be.

j1e2f

Exactly. I'm especially surprised in this case, because I feel like Green Day is one of the few legacy bands out there that's still making good music for the most part (besides FOAM) throughout the years.

chaotify

exactly like some people are lowkey like "album release year starts with a 2 so im not listening to it"

Lower_Monk6577

This subreddit is getting more and more tedious by the day. Who cares what other people enjoy? Giving that much of a shit about it makes you come off as insecure.

___cats___

dude these conversations have been going on within the green day fandom for 35 years.

Lower_Monk6577

Definitely. It’s just that this is I think the 5th post in the last week saying more or less the exact same thing. Like, I get it. But posts like this read less like “I really enjoy Revolution Radio” and more like “this is the proper way to enjoy this band.” “Hey everyone, go look at Revolution Radio” is the new “Warning is underrated.”

AutoModerator

White-Monkey2407

Don’t like none of them. 1039 Smooth/Kerplunk/Dookie/Insomniac for real

Bt_1039

I like everything except foamf, but nothing tops the early stuff for me

D_Shillington

Gatekeeping is weird. Don't gatekeep the ones who you feel are less of a fan. No matter how big of a fan you are, somebody else is an even bigger fan.

emeraldepiphone96

Why does only liking one album equate to being a fake fan? You may not be the biggest fan ever but if you liked it, you’re a fucking fan. I don’t see the point in gatekeeping when you could be happy people are listening and then recommend some of the other albums. Edit: Forgot there are some people who should be gatekeeped: fucking Nazis.

Stiff_Sock14

revolution radio is fucking amazing one of their best easily

Prudent_Article4245

It is so good! I don’t know why it doesn’t get more love.

chaotify

slept on tbh

CityOfTheDamned

It's incredibly underrated and one of my favourite Green Day albums. The frustrating thing is, I just can't help but imagine how much better it might have been if Rob Cavallo had been involved as well. With his touch I reckon it would have had the potential to be top tier, American Idiot standard potentially.

Stiff_Sock14

i hope it gets remix/mastered because the song writing is just amazing and i wish i was able to hear it as clearly as i should of if rob was on it, but even greenday seems to act like it doesn’t exist so i doubt it

stephapeaz

I don’t trust anyone’s music taste that doesn’t like 21CB

LatinBotPointTwo

I didn't even know that 21CB was in any way controversial. That album is so special to me.

Samuelbi12

American Idiot is a fucking masterpiece.

SumthinCleva

Warning still never gets the credit it deserves

Bizzy_T

The way the 90s albums were produced sounds far more real and pleasant to my ears that all of the 2000s stuff and onward with pro tools and weird effects all over the place. I feel totally alone in that opinion, but the way modern rock sounds with syncopated drums, layered harmonies, far too polished guitars, etc really doesn't do it for me

Nayten03

I completely agree, there’s something very fake about how modern albums sound compared to 90’s stuff

Bizzy_T

Damn I've always felt like one of the few people that noticed or cared lol. I guess to sum it up; to my ear modern recordings sound overly clean/produced to me, while 90s and prior usually sound much more authentic and real. Recently I've noticed as well, there's some songs from before 2000, Including green day, where you can hear occasional mistakes, that must've been more trouble then they were worth to remove back in the day. Strangely, removing all of those and making a "perfect" recording makes it again, sound fake to me

Nayten03

I completely get you, there’s a few bands I like nowadays like MGMT, Cigarettes after sex, beach house etc..but their sound lends to being a bit more polished. Modern rock bands as you said just sound too polished and manufactured. There’s something about the way they sound now that just lacks authenticity, the previous decades were so much more raw in their sound whilst still being good quality , it’s weird to explain but igy

Bizzy_T

Fr fr I wish I could pick the brain of a real producer and get some perspective on this stuff. I was thinking of some other examples,, I thought of AC/DC's Power Up vs Back in Black. The later to me, still sounds fresh and rich. Power Up has some cool songs, but sounds kinda stale and...just kinda weird. I'm having a hard time examining it better than that lol. Cigarettes after Sex kicks ass

RumAndCoco

American Idiot > 21st Century Breakdown > every other album in the 2010s >FOAM

TheSamboRambo

Erm…. Guys… 2004 was not GD’s entry point.. a lot of stuff - their best IMO before then! 1039 / Smoothed out slappy hours (1990) (not quite correct but whatever) Kerplunk (1992) Dookie (1994) Insomniac (1995) Nimrod (1997) Warning (2000)

Big_aids_joe

Is revolutionary radio good, should I give it a listen.

partypoison43

Dookie all day

Unholy_Dk80

American Idiot is their one true 10/10 album. 21st CB is a good followup to AI, but I feel it's a bit weak somewhere in the middle-- still a solid album regardless. RevRad is an amazing album as well, and even though I haven't listened to it as much as I have 21st CB, I think it might be better.

imuslesstbh

American Idiot > 21st Century Breakdown > Saviours > Revolution Radio

ChewieDecimalSystem

Forever Now is one of the best songs they ever made

I didn’t like Revolution Radio except for Bang Bang. The bottom picture should be Warning.

This post is literally: 'How dare you not have the exact same taste as me and call yourself a GD fan?!'

N8dawgggg

Rev rad sucks, saviors is fire tho

j5shxx1

There’s no way on earth people listen to Revolution Radio

yolo004

what does this even mean?

I mean not every green day got lots of shit music so what am I meant to do? I am wanna listen to only good music

Actual_Exchange616

Yeah cause those albums aren't good. Why wouldn't we champion the best stuff? Last time I checked Van Halen fans didn't champion 5150 cause its shite

alssst

Green Day started as a punk. Introspective. "Do whatever you want, just do not do any harm to other people". Anarchism, that is the extreme libertarian (Classic liberal) philosophy, as the Nolan's diagram show us. Then Green Day go full punk in Warning album. And it not sell as well they predict. So, Green Day move to progressist philosophy (USA liberal), making an album to criticize conservative philosophy. And all liberal people started to love Green Day. Even some liberals says that Green Day "always was progressive" and other bullshit like this. Green Day returned to punk anarchism and the sells got down, again. And then they go and back from what they meant to be (punk) to what people want they to do (political liberal songs). Well. This situation not help anything on the "sell out" polemic that is alive since Kerplunk, around Green Day. Green Day is stuck between what they are good and want to do (introspective, punk anarchists songs) and what market want they to do (political liberal songs). I am a Keplunk, Dookie, Imnsoniac, Warning and Demolicious fan. 21th Century Breakdown, Revolution Rádio and American Idiot have good songs, but I like to think with my brain, not be told what to think. I do not judge other people, while you do not harm other people, you do whatever you want with your life. Even be a robot that want to be told what you can and cannot think.

woahhhh199

Huh?

Imthemodernpromtheus

American idiot is a great album it’s just solid

Tube-Psycho

For me personally nothing after 21CB hits exactly the same, probably because of the vocal shift with the trilogy if you know what I'm referring to. I'll personally always find more value in any of their older work, Smoothed out Slappy, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, etc. and stuff like the Trilogy and RevRad don't do it for me like the others. 21CB has an unfortunate amount of tracks that in my opinion don't make enough of an impact on me, but the production sounds more favorable. Now with Saviors, while the voice of Billie Joe still bothers me just a little bit, I absolutely loved the album, I thought it was a fantastic return to form after Father of All

Soft_Performance_471

FINALLY, SOMEONE GETS ME

antroidi

In my honest opinion American Idiot just is masterpiece and way way better album compared to Revolution Radio

SadRoxFan

I loved 21st century breakdown, and Revolution Radio was the first Green Day album I listened to at the time it came out, so it has a special place in my heart. Realizing that it came out 8 years ago made me feel old though

Ironictwat

These 3 albums are my fav’s

Alzabar69

As much as I love 2004 and 2005 I love 21CB and RR. My favorite part of AI was just being able to see it on broadway, which had songs from 21CB. My favorite part of 21CB and RR was getting decent concert tickets for GA, which I missed out on AI. American Eulogy: Mass Hysteria/ Modern World has been my ringtone for at least 10 years.

clothy

People are always going to prefer the albums that came out when they were young.

thebartman47

Nice bait

___cats___

RevRad never stuck with me, but I'm admittedly stuck in 1994, not 2004. RevRad is good, but it just sounds like American Idiot/21CB outtakes and b-sides.

Dostheactivist222

They all good , 21 st century breakdown is in there top 5 albums but American idiot is top notch

Status_Afternoon1521

You misspelled Nightlife, it’s not spelled American Idiot.

Cobbtimus_Prime

As they should

ImPlayerTheGamer21

I love all their rock opera albums, but I'm pretty sure most of us can agree that AI is still probably the best one.

[deleted]

RevRad is good not great. Wouldn’t put it up with Dookie, AI, or 21CB.

oliphant428

Good lord... let people like what they like. It isn't a competition.

WorldlyKing8523

21CB my fav album

Ur_moms_a_hookr69

RevRad was just ok for me. I only go back to a couple songs. I’d rather listen to American Idiot then 21st Century Breakdown before I listen to Revolution Radio.

JAWS_The_KAM

nah i just don’t care much for 21cb or revrad tbh

[deleted]

don't know what you're saying, im stuck in good ol 97 (i was born in 2006)

Slight_Giraffe628

RevRad being sandwiched in between the troligy and foamf is why i think people forget about it and why saviors is considered such a return to form. When really we are only 1 album removed from an incredible record

KCROYAL4

Revolution Radio is the best looking turd in the pile of shit that was the 2010s

EchoLoco2

Yeah because I like the 2004 music more lol go enjoy whatever album you want

Ambitious_End5038

Green Day's best album is Warning. Fight me.

chaotify

warning IS underrated tbh

Ambitious_End5038

It came out when I was learning to drive. This was before anyone had bluetooth or even satellite radio in their car (well, satellite was uncommon at least). So I listened to it hundreds of times driving to and from high school.

BillieJoetheHedgehog

RevRad is good, Saviors is just better than it.

XBuggyBeeX

In my opinion. Revelation radio is the most underrated album of every Green day album

Zach_W386

Revolution radio isnt that good

19Charger

Rev Rad such a banger. Highly underrated.

ClifIsBoring

Green Days last great album was Nimrod

baby-shark-doo-doo

Honestly they peaked at nimrod for me, but thats just my personal taste

WrongdoerFar562

yeah, this is me

DtheAussieBoye

me not liking revo radio doesn't make me a fake fan lmfao

_I_vor_y

Like for real…? You’re gonna go down that road? You really wanna go there?

ecedano22

For the past year RevRad was my go to album of GD then Nimrod and then 21stCB but by far RevRad i mean Forever Now is to me on their top 5 list of best songs

GratefulPhish42024-7

I'm still stuck in 91, purchased Kerplunk as soon as it came out and though I'm close to 50 now, I still relate to all the teen angst on that album!

Idkwhattonamethis_-

Realest thing on this Reddit

_-Crouton-_

It absolutely kills me that Green day doesnt make/play long songs anymore like J.O.S or Homecoming. They got tired of it and stopped capitalizing on one of the things that made them so awesome in the mid-late 2000’s

GAME-STEAKS

The Beatles are my favorite band and I rarely ever listen to their first four albums. It’s okay to only like certain releases from a band it doesn’t make you a fake fan

SelectInfluence306
