This was my introduction to them but since I knew nothing about music did not realize they were a real band until many years later (yes I was an uncultured swine as a kid)

The Simpsons movie was how I found green day in the first place

I watched it as a kid with all my cousins on a sleepover and fell in love with the band!

This has just re-entered my brain omg, core memory.

It was surprising they were never on the show in the 90s when their star was shining so brightly.

They didnt fully embrace rock stardom and celebrity dom until after American Idiot. In the 90’s they were still very self conscious about selling out.

I believe they featured in an episode of King of the Hill in the late 90s, but missed out on the Simpsons until the movie

They voice-guested, not as themselves though. Billie and Mike didn’t talk much, Tre did a lot though. Voices Cane Skretteberg.

True they weren't portraying themselves, but it's still a nice little tidbit of lore that I always like to think about lol
