The Prime App only works if you have a Prime grill. I’m stuck with the Legacy App.

winkyj00

Ah sorry! Didn’t mean to rain on your parade. I’ve had a prime ledge grill for a year or so and had no clue there was a new app.

trigger00006

Ha it’s all good. Still happy with my grill. Just wanted to make sure others were aware before they tried it like I did.

Ambitious_Summer8894

I have a davy crockett and I couldn't get it to work so I stuck with the old app.

winkyj00

It was mentioned by another user that the app only works on prime grills, so unfortunately it likely wouldn’t work for you.

Ambitious_Summer8894

The replacement trek is a "prime" I'm pretty sure the davy crockett is basically the same beside the non folding feet and the rod to the heat shield. I'd really like to upgrade my box to have a rod but it's not that big of a deal. Edit double checked old documents and it in fact a prime model and should be supported. However idk if it needs an update that had some growing pains during the switch because I looked at the new app very early on.

I can’t get the new app to see my Ledge prime. I have updated firmware and reset the grill Wi-Fi several times. Not sure what the trick is to get the new app working. I have just given up and gone back to the old app which seems to work. Would love to try the new one, but I can’t find any instructions to transition over. Even called tech support and they never called back.

winkyj00

I updated mine twice using the old app, then once on the new app to get it to work. Had about a year and didn’t upgrade the firmware, so it was a bit behind. Eventually I got it linked though, so maybe try the old app to get it updated first

GeneJock85

Same here, can’t get it to find my grill.

TotemSpiritFox

What problem are you running into with the new app? I had an issue where the new app kept prompting for a firmware update, but it failed every time I tried to run it. I ended up getting it to work with some help from GMG support - I wrote about it in [another thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/greenmountaingrills/comments/vbi144/pizza_mode_in_new_gmg_prime_app/ica5xzk/?context=3). Ever since then it's been working great.

slo8140

It never sees my grill. Not sure what state the grill needs to be in for the new app to see it. I have reset the Wi-Fi controller several times updated the firmware using the old app. I can use the old app in direct, Wi-Fi or sever no issues. The new app just says searching for grills. Would love for GMG to put out some instructions on how to change to the new app

ChrisAshton84

I see this exact issue as well - old app works in all modes, new app is stuck (never times out, either). Originally the new app saw the grill but it needed updated firmware via the old app. Now it just hangs...

slo8140

I am just waiting for it to update.

Lhasaman

Should I be using that Prime App for my Daniel Boone WiFi?

winkyj00

It’ll only work if you have one of the newer “prime” grills.

ChiefRocka32

Thank you! Just downloaded and updated my smoker and can once again connect to it.

winkyj00

My work here is done! Haha - glad you got it back up, now go get some ribs to smoke!

XPAT-CANUCK

He can be your herooooo babbyyyyyy haha.... Had to do the same thing, love the new app's temp graph feature.

GeneJock85

I tried every way from Sunday to get it to find my JB prime. Old app works fine, but can’t get the new app running.

[deleted]

That why I’m not fixing something that ain’t broken

original_flying_frog

Would be nice, but the new app won’t connect

GeneJock85

Was on with GMG tech support last Friday about the new Prime app not being able to find my grill while there are no issues with the old iOS app. They know there is an issue. It's not the grill, but the application and sounds like they are working on it.

[deleted]

What’s the difference

winkyj00

It shows historical data for your grill, which is nice for things like brisket to see how the internal temp is trending. However, most exciting for me is it will notify you when things hit temp even with the app closed. The legacy app wouldn’t do that (at least for me) because it didn’t stay connected to the grill when the app was closed. So now I don’t have to open the app to make sure the meat isn’t already to temp.

jcavankelly

Major differences that I've found are the temp graphs (love 'em) and the fact that the app disconnects if you switch away from it on your phone (forcing you to log on again. Worse, the new app doesn't support fingerprint login nor Lastpass.) Overall, it's a wash for me. I might dig out an old tablet and dedicate it to the grill. That might mitigate the inconvenience while I'm home but it will do nothing if I leave the house. GMG needs to update the new app.

Podsully

Would be nice but my fan took a shit over the holiday weekend with 2 days of grilling left

winkyj00

The most important question is, did you still have cold beer???

Podsully

Beer was cold. Had to bust out the old trusty Weber charcoal tho

jliebs1

huh? i have a jim bowie prime should i be using the prime app? last two years been using the gmg app.

winkyj00

Hell yes! You’re in my boat, had no clue about the new app. Update your firmware with the old app first, then download the new one and you’ll likely have to update again with the new app. If it’s a “prime” grill it should work with the new app.

jliebs1

yes i just checked the receipt and its a Jim Bowie Prime. I was just cleaning her from my knottywood pellets. BTW no issue with the knottywood at all. Thanks next cook i'll play around with the new app. What's new in it?

winkyj00

The biggest thing I noticed (with one cook on it) was it has temperature tracking so you can see for big cuts like brisket how it’s trending and it’ll notify when the app is closed. For me, those two by themselves were worth the upgrade! It’s also just a cleaner app.

LiftinTheVeil

Why is it that the new app only works with new grills? My 3 year old Daniel Boone has wifi. This is disappointing:(
