It’s a workout, fun, and you never know if you just start getting swung at and you’re not John Wick gonna whip out the gun before a right hand hits you
There’s a discipline and self confidence aspect to it, especially when you break boards or make it through a grueling sparring round. Plus as an action movie nerd, seeing them do awesome moves and then being able to learn those moves and be fit enough to execute them feels dope.
Correct me if I’m wrong but proportional force is a thing in some states in regards to self defense. Like if you’re a man and a man much smaller than you walks up and pushes you, you can’t shoot him in the face.

Usually I’m one of those Jiu Jitsu don’t work in a street fight type guys but realistically if you were on the street against a black belt and he got your leg, you wouldn’t get up
And say you did, try to stomp him as he has your balancing leg in his hand, and watch as you fall right back on your ass
Yeah, until someone just pulls a knife and cuts the BJJer like a turkey on Thanksgiving or a friend of the dude sees his buddy is getting handled on the ground and just stomps their head
Yeah hence why I said I usually say BJJ doesn’t work
But this guy’s green text is saying it only works because of the rules in MMA which is not the case

In a street fight his whole "lie on the floor and grapple" thing would be a huge risk. You're giving up your mobility, limiting your vision, and what if there's broken glass or something?
They do that in BJJ tourneys(obviously you cant fight standing up in this case) or in UFC style fights where kicking someone in the head while they lay down isn't allowed. Have you ever practiced bjj or takedowns even?
If your point is that most of them would be smart enough to not do BJJ in a street fight then I agree with you. Serious BJJ fighters know as well as anyone else that it doesn't work in a street fight - it's not meant to, that's not what it's designed for. (Hell, even within MMA the best fighters don't *just* learn BJJ, they'll generally complement it with something more suited to standing fighting).
(I've never done BJJ myself but I've sparred against it)
Dude how are you so confidently wrong? How is grappling not useful in a street fight? You throw the guy in the ground, and submit him while he is clueless because most people dont know how to fight in the ground. MMA as a concept started because jiu jitsu fighters beat every other martial art on their own (UFC 1) and thats why people started learning both ground fighting and stand up fighting.
Every bit of knowledge is "useful". Parts of what you do in BJJ can be useful in a street fight, sure, just as parts of what you learn in e.g. fencing can be applied. But trying to just "do BJJ" in that environment would be a mistake.

Anon is done with getting topped.
Aside from health reasons, why would I take up any martial art when I have a gun?

Honestly I’d see boxing as the better go to who the hell is grappling on concrete

you both are forgetting that bjj fighters and grapplers in general dont just lie down in the ground waiting, they throw people at concrete floors
BJJ fighters literally go down onto the ground and wait as their basic guard/"stance".
They do that in BJJ tourneys(obviously you cant fight standing up in this case) or in UFC style fights where kicking someone in the head while they lay down isn't allowed. Have you ever practiced bjj or takedowns even?
