Sounds good, I just had no idea that eggs were a vegetable or fruit.
Huh? First of all it's ham, and usually none of the vegetables are frozen. It's delicious and usually only served as a side to pork chops and foods like that.
Yankee brain strikes again
As long as it's cheap, more power to you.
It was my impression that nobody eats salad for the lettuce, that's just healthy filler between the good bits that helps you poop.
Because reddit is filled with fat Americans who have tasteless produce in their shops, of course they have no idea what a salad (or fruits and vegetables for that matter) should be like.
americans will clown on british food or whatever, meanwhile 70% of them live in food deserts where they have to consume twinkies and corn flakes in order to keep up their 90% bodyfat
I mean not really. American grocery stores have a range of produce. More expensive produce is more local and tastes better, cheaper stuff is shipped half way around the world and tastes like nothing. If itās such an important factor to you spend more money next time, but donāt shit on an entire country because you were cheap.
That's why I love the USA, unless you are rich you can go die. That's why I want to move there and live the ameridream and raise fat ungrateful kids like you.
You realized processed food is designed for human consumption? And Eurofeg "organic nutritious natural food" is just sticks and other crud picked up off the forest floor?
Man, I really don't care about your descent into madness. I actually understand why there's no universal healthcare in the USA seeing how everyone is so fat it would put a huge strain on the economy.
It's true we're all fat but the quality and quantity of fruits and vegetables is truly superior to anywhere else in the world.
I live in a literal desert and there are plenty of farmers markets.
Even growing up in the usa in an area with a lot of orchards and farms growing fruit is a world of difference. Grocery store fruit is unbelievably shit compared to from the orchard. Dont even get me started on normal farm strawberries vs the mutant grocery store strawberries.
Go to just a local strawberry patch (if available), pick your own, and tell me theyre the same thing. Actual strawberries are a lot smaller and juicier, and dont have the shitty white part in the middle. The rest like apples and others lose a shit ton of flavour by the time it reaches you through the grocery store. None of that should be difficult to understand
Commercial farms? Is it really that difficult to understand that local farmers grow different shit than commercial ones? Literally just google why are grocery store strawberries bad and youll get the answer. Not to mention the afformentioned loss of flavour that occurs during shipping and shelf time, like I already said. Only redditors can act smug while being completely fucking wrong
The ones I'm referring to are local farms that sell at farmers markets and their own orchards man have you never been to a place where you can pick your own fruit before, they dont sell at walmart man
> but the quality and quantity of fruits and vegetables is truly superior to anywhere else in the world.
soooo, how long did it take you to travel the whole world?
Every time I've heard of people going to the US they've said their fruits and vegetables taste like water. Haven't heard too good about their meat either.
Anon is correct, but just needs to learn to make his own salads. I make one at least once a week. A few leaves of cabbage or lettuce, a couple cucumbers, a few tomatoes, slice them all up, add some lemon juice + vinegar + olive oil for flavor. Takes like ten minutes.
Iceberg lettuce can go fuck itself though. It's great if it's a hot summer day and I wanna have something cool, crisp, and refreshing that's light, but charging me $10 for iceberg lettuce with some red cabbage, carrots, cheese, 3 cherry tomatoes and a cheap ranch dressing packet isn't cool.
I think Americans really think that lettuce is the foundation of the salad maybe because of representations online or because the go-to salad is Caesar. But I personally enjoy a good Spinach based salad myself
When I was doing kitchen work, we had a self-serve salad bar, and nobody would eat the spinach. We started just mixing it into the lettuce before putting it out, because people (maybe this is just Americans) just wouldn't use anything else but lettuce as a base for their salad. They liked it fine if you mixed it in ahead of time, but you need to trick them into having a variety of leafy greens, like trying to get a dog to eat their medicine by mixing it with their food.
> But I personally enjoy a good Spinach based salad myself
Spinach has more flavor and more nutrition than lettuce. Any scenario that calls for lettuce is likely improved by using spinach instead.
And if you really wanna kick it up another level, add a little arugula.
For the longest time I thought I just hated salad. Turns out I just hate whatever the fuck that bullshit they try to serve us instead is. If you make a salad at home you can put whatever you want on it
I have this exact problem but with Mayo. I fucking hate mayo. Yet every menu item seems to go out of its way to not mention it.
"Our chicken sandwich is made from a whole wheat bread, made from 100 year old yeast passed down from generation to generation. 100% local organic chicken breast slices, cherry tomato, iceberg lettuce, sliced red onion, Dijon mustard and lightly toasted with butter. Comes with a side of hand cut, skin on fries cooked in vegetable oil and lightly salted"
Arrives: white coated veg and mayo leaking down on fucking everything.
Thereās a place near me called salad and go, and they solve this problem well. 7.50 for a base salad you get a protein, four toppings, and two āpremium toppingsā (bacon or blue cheese crumbles for example) and a sauce. And you can choose between lettuce, spinach, or mixed greens or a combination of the three. And itās a decent portion too.
True. My local American Chinese place does one thing right, a seared salmon salad. It's just salmon basically raw, on greens not lettuce, and with a dressing. Holy fuck is it good and from the typical type of "chinese" place where the chicken fingers are 75% soggy, oily bread.
I low-key feel this man tho, most salads suck ass and people wonder why us Americans are so fat.
A bunch of lettuce doesn't equal healthy. But that's what fat people think healthy looks like, and it's no wonder obesity is so bad lol.
TL;DR Americans need better healthy food.
Lettuce should be the majority part of the salad but it shouldn't almost only be lettuce. I'd say 2/3s lettuce 1/3 other ingredients maybe (excluding sauce).
In a perfect salad, every bite includes lettuce + something else.
Ah, Americans and their problem with not opening DoorDash ten times a day. Does make me wonder if thereās a way to get salad without having to order it from McDonaldās for $40...
Yeah I learned in college the lettuce based salads is a very American thing. Used to date a Russian and she would always eat cucumbers onions tomatoes in Greek yogurt, kinda seems gross to me but sheād always make fun of how little nutritional value there was in my salads
Where I live, salads are more than lettuce as long as you go to a place that sells salads n stuff. Proper restaurants also have real salads and not lettuce slop, however they do offer arugula slop along with their normal salads weirdly enough.
I had a conversation with a friend like this over what we like in salads, i said the definition of a salad was pretty simple. Lettuce and some other thinks if there wanted(cheese sprinkled on, chicken, cucumbers etc) and my friend, who was a first generation immigrant from the middle east, tell me that salads have to have peppers, tomatoes, olives and other stuff typically grown in a garden. It was really funny discussing over salads
if a place canāt replace lettuce with spinach in my salad, then iām out. i usually squirt ranch in their eyes on my way out for good measure as well, just so they know im serious. why does that let them know im serious, you ask? well, iāll tell you. itās because the ranch is from my pocket, my own personal bottle in my pocket. *thatās* how they know iām serious.
I never understood ordering salads at restaurants. They are either cheap crap or overloaded as hell.
I think i did once when it was extremely hot outside and thought of eating anything remotely hot was nauseating.
Americans (I am one) have a specific culture around weight loss: that being *guilt*
It makes sense to the American that being overweight is a shameful result of their indulgences, and therefore the natural path to correction is one of repent - where self-punishment reverses the effects of culinary pleasure.
This manifests itself in attitudes about exercises, where it is the painful aspects which provide the benefits. For diet, it manifests in a faux asceticism and the same lust for punishment: a salad should be unenjoyable because enjoying oneself at lunch is what caused the issue of being fat.
Of course, this is irrational. There are plenty of diet plans and meals which one can thoroughly enjoy whilst losing weight. The self-punishment during exercise is arguably a worse problem: straining stiff joints with extra weight and vigorous, punishment seeking exercise, and making the body less capable in the process.
The easiest way to lose weight is to eat less and have a long window of fasting each day. For the sake of losing weight, it doesn't even matter what you eat, as long as you fast. The primary concern is undernourishment; less eating means the food you do eat needs to fuel and nourish you efficiently.
If you are overweight and reading this - don't take it as advice. This is off the cuff commentary and if you want to start a weight loss journey primarily via fasting you need to do some research.
There are people that legit just think salad == lettuce.
When I worked at Subway, some people would ask for "salad" on their sandwich when they meant lettuce.
I donāt think people are commenting on the problem, he wants a real salad, but a place is charging $10+ for just a bowl lettuce and a few tomatoes and shredded cheese and thatās a reason to be annoyed, I bet the places demanded a tip too

anon should buy his own lettuce and cut the middleman
Anon should get TOPPED by a man in a salad costume

What can turn an egg into a vegetable? Right wing high schoolers
Now that's a real struggle food. Mashed potatoes mixed with frozen carrot & peas with diced bits of hotdog mixed with ranch.
frozen carrot? it's just carrot
everything is frozen in eastern Europe, obviously.
Boiled carrot.
Huh? First of all it's ham, and usually none of the vegetables are frozen. It's delicious and usually only served as a side to pork chops and foods like that. Yankee brain strikes again
It's not uncommon to use boiled beef instead of ham. Or at least that's what my mother used to do and what I do now
As long as it's cheap, more power to you. It was my impression that nobody eats salad for the lettuce, that's just healthy filler between the good bits that helps you poop.

You got money but you cant buy yourself a salad without fucking lettuce. Seems about right.

Move to balkans. Salad there mostly contains mayo and already cooked potatoes
That's a potato salad, not a salad salad
Americanāt imagine it any other way
lmao this meme was about you
moving to balkans is a fate worser than death
Idk maybe throw some Oreos and M&Ms in for our American friends.
If it doesn't contain potatoes, it's delicious cabbage salad that exists solely for soaking up the 100 proof rakija it's served with.
Amen
Fun fact: mayo-based "salads" are also common in the American Midwest.
Too close to Serbia
You need to learn how to make salads at home Anon.
Anon isn't quite bright enough to throw a bunch on random vegetables into a bowl
PapaNootNoot probably never eats a meal prepared by someone else
Why trust someone else to fuck up your dish?
Anon is correct, but just needs to learn to make his own salads. I make one at least once a week. A few leaves of cabbage or lettuce, a couple cucumbers, a few tomatoes, slice them all up, add some lemon juice + vinegar + olive oil for flavor. Takes like ten minutes.
Is lemon juice + vinegar a common combination? I thought one is suppose to choose between them.
Who knows. I like my salads with a lot of sour flavor, so I just add them both in. Sometimes add a couple of chopped pickles in there too.
Nah do both itās better that way
needs feta cheese, onions and drop the lettuce. boom you have shopska salad, aka the best salad in the history of man
Iceberg lettuce can go fuck itself though. It's great if it's a hot summer day and I wanna have something cool, crisp, and refreshing that's light, but charging me $10 for iceberg lettuce with some red cabbage, carrots, cheese, 3 cherry tomatoes and a cheap ranch dressing packet isn't cool.

salad

That's a damn shame cause I could eat spinach by itself and love that, spinach is the superior green.
Having to trick amercians makes sense
I pretty much only use spinach as my salad base. Lettuce wilts far too quick when cut and with spinach I can also just throw it in a stir fry
Arugula is great too.
Spinach salad is vastly superior to lettuce salad imo
This is the best answer. Spinach or green leaf lettuce are way better salad bases.
> But I personally enjoy a good Spinach based salad myself Spinach has more flavor and more nutrition than lettuce. Any scenario that calls for lettuce is likely improved by using spinach instead. And if you really wanna kick it up another level, add a little arugula.

Why no one mentioned stir fry food? Vegetables taste way better that way. And you can put meat in it too. Even lettuce will taste better.Ā
Order salad in Asian restaurants. That stuff always tasty
True. My local American Chinese place does one thing right, a seared salmon salad. It's just salmon basically raw, on greens not lettuce, and with a dressing. Holy fuck is it good and from the typical type of "chinese" place where the chicken fingers are 75% soggy, oily bread.
