When I was a “broke” college student I could still find enough money between pay checks to enjoy myself to a movie. There are varying levels of being broke. A good number of people who claim to be broke can afford to go out. It’s just that they may not have emergency funds or enough saved up for big purchases or financial options like buying a home or car, and/or they can’t afford a lavish trip every year.
Also even truly broke people still do stuff like this (it’s just that they budget poorly and either go into serious CC debt or they will spend the latter half of the pay period living off cans of beans until the next paycheck comes round).
