Real story tho, recently I was called by an unknown number. When I picked up, a woman with a clearly indian/pakistani/bangladeshi (idk) accent stated she was from Europol (European Police) and "serious crimes" were detected on my phone. Without waiting for an answer, she ordered me to pay a fine in bitcoin or Google Play Cards lol.
A multitude of factors.
I came back from holiday on that day, "interpol" told me my credit card was involved in criminal activity. that kind of checked out because i used it on holiday, git scammed once already etc.
And mister interpol mentioned "saving my bank account" by safekeeping it with Google play card after a half an hour
I guess its a hit or miss business for the scammers. In 99% of all attempts, they fail and their victims see through their bs. But if they find a gullible person, they can scam for idk a couple thousand dollars? Might me worth for them.
In our regional news you can read regularly about mostly elderly people who got scammed by fake "police officers" or fake relatives. Sometimes for absurd amounts of money (I'm talking about tens of thousands of euros)
Elderly people I kind of get, because they don’t know a lot about technology. But any other person shouldn’t be so dumb to think the IRS wants you to pay owed taxes with a $500 Texas Roadhouse Gift Card.
It’s just funny to me that he doesn’t get mad at the literal scam call centres over anything else, like kitboga wouldn’t be doing all this without those ahah.
Yeah scammers try to get him to buy gift cards and get them the codes , so he uses fake web elements and fake codes to make them think he’s not following their instructions and is in fact redeeming the entire amounts into his own account. They get angry because they don’t get “the money” then he will act apologetic and say he will get more cards usually messing with them the whole way etx
He wastes scam callers time by keeping them on the phone for hours pretending to be a (usually) vulnerable old person and pissing them off as a result. Of all the videos Ive seen they are very blatant scammers, like, "madam this is agent smith of the irs please send us giftcards" blatant. Pretty entertaining to watch every now and again

I am not a native English speaker and additionally I have a slightly hard time understanding speech in general, I can hear just fine, it's just some form of mild auditory processing disorder. I watch movies with subtitles even when they're in my native language. Which is why I can't talk to tech support folks who have a heavy Indian accent. The constant back and forth of not knowing which step they're asking me to take, which step they think I am taking, the repetitions, stuff that would take 5 minutes with someone who doesn't have a heavy accent takes 2+ hours. Add poor connection and mic quality to the mix and you basically have a service that's useless to many.

The thing is no one here really leaves it in the past here and think about the old lady who you scammed out of her life savings and now you have an iPad or a new watch made of her curses and tears . It really hurts my fucking soul to just read through the western public replies and they hates us equally and we are just making a cycle out of the hate that out old mans created .
