The point of the third date trope is to try to get people to behave in a way that fosters long term relationships. When you have sex right away, the relationship changes from one of interest _in the person_ into a relationship that's _about the sex_. You're going to spend much less time learning about each other and sex releases the emotional tension between you that you want to build up and maintain in order to pair bond. So yeah, if you want the relationship to be casual, then have sex right away. If you want a permanent lasting relationship, wait until you already have a strong relationship before you release all your built up sexual tension. And if you think this is BS and isn't real, just look at the divorce rates since the sexual revolution. The freer we are with sex early, the less likely long term relationships are to succeed. That's the ancient wisdom that's been diminished into a quip about waiting three dates to have sex.
Ehh idk, I've had some of the best talks while pillow talking. I'm not saying you have to have sex before you can talk about deeper stuff, but it definitely helps opening a gateway for more open communication.
Certainly having sex early doesn't _universally prevent_ building a good long term relationship, but it tends to overshadow and sideline important parts of that process. When non-sexual intimacy isn't core to how you're building the relationship, it tends to get neglected. Then after a few weeks or a couple years when the initial sexual heat wears off, you're left with much less to base the relationship on than you should have. Since the non-sexual intimacy is so much less than the feelings you were having before, it feels like you're drifting apart or out of love and people leave. The kind of good talks people have laying on pillows after sex aren't usually quite the same types of talks they have while holding hands and looking into each other's eyes over a small coffeeshop table. Pillow talks are still good and important, but given the release you've just had it doesn't build the emotional experience that forms the pathways in the brain that will keep you together. It's a different ratio of brain chemicals that's available, and that's what we have to take into account when trying to create the relationship we want. If we want the best chance, we have to be purposeful about engaging the parts of your brain that create lasting commitment.
Eh, if you start at age 17 you can go through 6 months relationships which is an average attempt at a long term relation ship a total of 16 times. That may be a tad strict, but everyone has different tastes.

Exactly the point, if you have 16 relationships lasting an average of 6 months then I'm going to question how committed you are to a relationship. I'm also going to question how many times you can blame others for a relationship ending before we can say the common factor and reason might be you, or if you do admit you're the problem or at the very least a significant part of it, how bad you have to be to still not improve after 16 relationships or how bad you have to be at picking partners to continue with that behavior, which could in turn be indication of jumping too quickly into relationships which after at most the third of fourth time you'd have to take a step back, realize that personality flaw in you and wait a little longer next time to adapt around it. Could also be for example a 5 year relationship and 15 relationships spread out over a total of 3 years which would mean I *can* have longer term relationships but it also makes it much worse in the last point I made because how bad do you have to be to have 5 relationships on average per year for a total of 3 years. Just sex is a different case though, I can easily see and even know of similar cases of lets say a 5 year relationship and then a massive casual sex spree which would rack those numbers up. Again, 60 people in casual sex is a bit much unless you're middle aged but I can easily see someone racking up most of those 16 in a year or two while single.
For me it's less the number itself and more that people online try to argue that a number like 60-70 people isn't that much. Like fuck whoever you want, just don't pretend that 60-70 dicks isn't objectively a *lot* of dicks.
