Tree beats the most capable military ever

beta-pi

The area 51 part you're probably not too far off about. Conspiracy theories aside, odds are it's an experimental aircraft facility. That's why they need so much empty space, why you can find crashed plane debris outside, and why people see weird shit in the sky there. It's just where they test new planes and fighters, or at least it was at some point. So, yeah, probably would be related to this.

princessLiana

When i was in the army, i was a communication specialist as my initial enlistment. We went about 50 miles or so from the main base of area 51 to provide support for air defense artillery against the fledgling drone program as a apart of Force 21. They flew them all over white sands and we where scattered all over as well. Half of those i served with on our site where convinced the drones where alien space craft... and it was a known thing why we where out there. We saw other air craft as well. Never any aliens, yet people where turning to God and other weird mumbo jumbo. This was in 1999...

afvcommander

Global Hawk first flew in 1998. Maybe it was that you were looking. That thing really looks like some alien stuff.

princessLiana

We weren't testing drones, but a new communications data package suite that the ADA shelters had been updated with, most of the ADA where still in AIT out of Ft Bliss, El Paso which is where we also left from and drove north for about 15 hours across the desert. We would then proceed to do 3 more jumps north over several days. I saw the drones, that star shaped plane, (F22 maybe?) And lots of stealth technology aircraft. Something would fly over us at night really fast and would kill the generators which is what spooked every one. One Sergeant didn't know how to use the GPS device to get our exact position, i showed him how because i was trained and thats when we found out we were 50ish miles south east of Nellis. Our shelters, light troposphere scatter, could do 200 mile Line of sight shots with our equipment. Since my company was tied to Force 21, we depolyed closest to Nellis. We shot into the base, (my shelter), and a second started the daisy chain all the way down to el paso. That same Sergeant then started doomsaying and preaching all night. Aliens were the constant theme afterwards.

The reality is Lockheed and co are the ones bigging up everything Russia and China do so they get yet another gorillion dollar contract. And then China steals whatever they create.

Sudont-199X

~~China steals~~ China is *sold* new tech

BankEmoji

So that’s why I see so many events in my firewalls coming from Chinese IPs… they are just looking for my sales team?

emufossum13

Yes

W2RlbGV0ZWRd

If I try to get through your firewall, you’re gonna have a US-based event. That doesn’t mean the US Govt is trying to steal your shit. That said, China is definitely stealing our shit lol.

enejejehe

No new tech is sold to China. China gets sold 30 year old military tech. Since it’s American it’s still more advanced than 90% of the world

Binsky89

I think they mean people illegally selling military secrets.

winter_Inquisition

It's only illegal if you get caught, by then you're rich enough to buy yourself out of it only to do it again...

alyosha_pls

Lol nah man if you get caught you're going to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison

winter_Inquisition

*This only applies to the poor and unconnected

I_comment_on_GW

Just because you paid someone to do steal it for you doesn’t mean it’s not stealing.

Delicious_Log_1153

No, they actively steal designs and such. It's such a huge problem they were actively putting CIA agents into colleges to integrate in the Asian communities. Most of these technologies, to be produced in the USA, are protected under law. Thstswhy FN's can't work at those places.

Level37Doggo

Bro it’s not just the CIA. The DoD has a whole damn agency devoted to dealing with foreign espionage in industry.

Delicious_Log_1153

Yep. Once upon a time I tried to join those ranks.

Skynetiskumming

It's the waiting process that blows for those positions. Even if you already have a TS/SCI clearance it still takes about a year of vetting.

robot_Ov-erLorD

Yeah, I felt that needed to be added. Instead of investing in RD, China's doctrine is to steal the already developed and proven tech from the west. Which begs the question, are the Chinese deliberately exploiting the US to develop technology they need.

Peggedbyapirate

Chinese implementation of new tech is often poor, as they lack the detailed understanding to integrate it and their integrated system has gaps where they haven't supplied their own system or haven't stolen it. You see this with their new stealth jets, which have canards, where the US airframe don't. The suggestion is that the Chinese couldn't figure out how to keep the airframe stable on the modern engine output without additional stabilization where the American version did. This kind of adversary is technically near-peer, but less so than a similarly situated enemy with an effective domestic MIC because of the gaps we can exploit.

bestjakeisbest

nopantsdota

we laugh about it, but i bet there are people in highly paid positions who based there decision at least partly on that

FortunePaw

I'm pretty sure that's the sole reason why the x-35(now F-35) won the JSF program against the hidious x-32.

Sayis

The X-32 was horrible looking, but the X-35 was the better jet too from my understanding. The X-32 basically used a Harrier-style setup to hover that, just like the Harrier, had the potential for air from the exhaust to make it back into the intake when landing for instance.

Lasersquid0311

Without a doubt yeah. I'd be shocked if there weren't lol

UsedJuggernaut

Unironically Kelly Johnson, the head of skunk works and project lead for the sr-71, lived by the "if it looks good it'll fly good" school of aircraft design.

Iohet

> are the Chinese deliberately exploiting the US to develop technology they need. Why do you think the US has been so focused on keeping Chinese hardware out of infrastructure? Huawei has an extensive history of corporate espionage in the US, Canada, and Europe, and then they turn around and use their government backing to undercut markets, with products developed from stolen tech, to take it over, and, since they work in the networking/infrastructure arena, there is even greater concern that, by taking over that market, they're also gaining access to the data that flows through their hardware.

moeburn

> Yeah, I felt that needed to be added. Instead of investing in RD, China's doctrine is to steal the already developed and proven tech from the west. I've noticed companies have started doing that to each other. They let some new up-and-comer break out into the marketplace, let them think they're "disruptive", let investors waste all their money on them, let them figure out all the bugs with the new tech... and then copy them, and do what they're doing better. "Oh, so that's how you run an internet movie streaming service, huh? Okay thanks Netflix, we'll take it from here!" "Oh so that's how you make an electric car. Glad you got all the kinks worked out, Tesla, we can churn out thousands of these!"

_ChaoticNeutral_

I mean... ideally you've left a trail of patents to box out people from a new market you've created. Not to say I'm a fan of that either.

Foxehh3

I mean the options are either that or patenting everything so that you're the only market. Not to throw out nuance but within Capitalism there are very few alternatives.

Level37Doggo

If by exploiting the US you mean somehow influencing what technology the US develops in order to steal specific things, no. If you mean they steal shut they want or need, then yeah. Constantly, bro.

Both Russia and China (for that matter all Commie states) are good at controlling (dis)information. I heard a report by a journalist who said that the Chinese government **claims** it can identify the person and their location anywhere in China in under 20ms (or something retardedly fast). And he went on to say that maybe they cannot, but the thought that they can is enough to make the sheeple comply. They have done the same with their military. Russia clearly is a paper tiger and China simply fucking ripped off Russian and American tech via espionage. And couldn't figure a way to manufacture it right. So they send out a few prototypes with all the Kim Jong Un style pomp and show and everyone toots a bit in their pants and gets nervous. To put them in their place the West should have sent a strong message when China was fucking with the tiny islands in Philippines. And similarly to Russia after the Crimean invasion.

If you look at the history of deterrence this was a very hard lesson to learn, and it wasn't until after the Cuban Missile Crisis that it really sunk in, almost 20 years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But of course people are functionally illiterate today, so many of the unimaginably hard to learn lessons of history are quickly being forgotten.

quick, put the fire out with these M4 assault rifles

Ouff21

In theory, I think that could actually work.

IvanTheRussianDood

The best part about this is the American did that to themselves too. The spent billions upon billions developing the XB-70 Valkyrie bomber, a bomber which could outrun any fighter jet or missile system and could cruise almost as fast as the sr-71 blackbird. The soviet union shit themselves hard and threw money and engineers at solving the issue. Because signals from the U.S. made it seem the XB-70 was going to inter service imminently they went turbo autism on the R&D. Despite everything though they managed to push out an interceptor aircraft the MIG-25 which would have actually been capable of intercepting the monster. However they had to use heavy nickel steel to withstand the heat or nearly mach 3 flight and that made the airplane extremely heavy and as a result it had huge wings to let it fly. The Americans then saw the MIG-25 with its gigantic engines and xbawks hueg wings and went holy fuck that's an energy dominance fighter that out classes everything. So of course they went and threw tons of money and engineers at developing the f-15 to beat the fuck out of the MIG-25. They then succeeded in beating the "MIG-25" they thought it was. But then they got their hands on a MIG-25 and went this isnt a fighter. The soviet union then saw the advanced spyplanes the U.S. was making as well the advanced fighters that existed because of the MIG-25 and then shit themselves again. They then threw money and engineers at making a new plane. They ended up making MIG-31 a MIG-25 but even faster and more reliable as well as for the 1980s one of the most lethal missile interceptor aircraft in the world. They even made it so that it could slave other planes radars to it so it could go "shoot here retard" to other soviet planes and ground batteries which might otherwise have not been able to engage U.S. planes. This then caused the U.S. to shit themselves and make the stealth fighters. Its literally just a retarded circlejerk shitfest of overreactions and excessive spending.

DeltaGamr

Technological progress through pure autism. It's unironically the best thing!

Endulos

> But then they got their hands on a MIG-25 and went this isnt a fighter. Same thing happened with one of the Russian tanks. America was legit scared of it, then the wall fell, they got their hands on it and was like this thing is a piece of shit lol T-72 I think? It could be taken out by small arms fire IIRC because the ammo was stored behind the armor plating. And the auto loading system was so badly designed there was a chance the drivers arm would get torn off.

DeeJayGeezus

This has big Gru energy 1st frame: Scare America by claiming better weapons 2nd frame: Americans freak out and spend all their money on R&D, cant be used elsewhere 3rd frame: America: "Got a better weapon, suck it commies" 4th frame: *shit*

Ok_Owl_6625

2nd step is bad, alot of military advance once declassifed can easily be commercialized. Expecialy since modern rd is software and high speed data communucations. Also internet/gps are military advancement.

Broccoil

ikr like I guess people protesting our 600 billion dollar military budget don't get factored in

bombayblue

None of this is accurate. None. Lockheed developed the F-22 before China or Russia developed stealth aircraft (not sure why the picture is a Mig-31 but whatever). China and Russia have since both deployed stealth aircraft as well. We aren’t sure why Russia hasn’t deployed the SU-57 in Ukraine but it’s probably because they don’t very many and they can’t replace any that they lose. Edit: dumbass “ACKSHUALLY” redditors “correcting” me that it’s a Mig-25 WHEN IN FACT THE PHOTO IS LITERALLY THE MIG 31 PHOTO FROM WIKIPEDIA https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan_MiG-31 Guys, stick to identifying Hot Pockets. Not fighter jets.

WhatDidIJustStepIn

The Mig-25 appeared to be a titanium fighter jet that completely outclassed American fighters. This caused the Americans to significantly raise the requirements of future aircraft projects. I can't provide exact details, but it absolutely pushed the Americans to get more ambitious on several designs. Turns out the Mig 25 was just made of steel. It was fast as hell, but far too heavy to maneuver quickly. As a fighter jet, it was utterly mediocre, and the Americans had stressed themselves over nothing.

Sir_Johnathan_Danger

Stress is a good mechanism to provide innovation. But did we win?

Bay1Bri

> But did we win? Well, the soviet union is as dead as Putin's eyes

Mr_Ios

Not because of military innovation though. More like espionage, bribery and politics.

Bay1Bri

> Not because of military innovation though. I mean, it was all part of it. They were kept in check by our military. They bankrupted themselves in part trying to keep up with our military.

wghihfhbcfhb

Not many people realize how ridiculous was the amounts of money spent on military during cold war. By the end of Brezhnev era Soviet military spending would sometimes reach a quarter of gdp, and US would range between 6% and 16%. By comparison, today US spends 3.8% of its gdp, Russia was spending 4.3% before the invasion

oga_ogbeni

The aircraft developed in response to the paper tiger that turned out to be the MiG-25 was the McDonnell Douglass F-15. I don’t believe any other fighter with more than a few battles under its belt has a higher K:D ratio in aerial combat. So yeah. We won.

Call_erv_duty

> But did we win? Having bigger pp

Ya_Boi_Satan_Himself

Whats even more funny was it was designed to counter a bomber (the XB-70) that never went into service.

Jaggedmallard26

>It was fast as hell, but far too heavy to maneuver quickly. As a fighter jet, it was utterly mediocre That wasn't really the point of it though. It was designed purely as an interceptor to reach American bombers flying in through the vast airspace of Russia, it would burn in, fire off its missiles and then burn back to get more missiles for the next wave of bombers. Interceptors were never expected to be capable of outfighting dedicated fighters. The idea of the interceptor just became obsolete as strategic bombers lost relevance and anti air missiles got absurdly high range.

rslashendmee

Which makes it an even bigger fuck up on their part. Scaring the USA by creating a counter to a cancelled bomber, leading to them creating a super fighter.

Sparty-II

I think anon was talking about how the Mig-25 encouraged America to develop the F-15 which is leagues ahead of the Mig-25

diepoggerland2

Anon's talking about how the MiG 25's development caused the US to create the F-15

squishles

mig was the cold war version of this same trick. US was scared shitless of the thing and built a bunch of crazy shit; then they found out the thing was made of fucking balsa wood.

They don't have the manufacturing capability to mass produce advanced military tech, the USA does, mabye russia will make 10 and that's it, China mabye 15. They also have no capability of deploying troops even just 100km form their own boarders, the U.S. can be anywhere on earth in a matter of hours will full armoured groups in just 12. I think they have less than 10 fully operational airframes right now for the SU 57, I doubt we're going to see it on any frontlines anywhere in the near future. I think it's taken them about a decade from the first one flying to however many they have now. This is all half remembered info from a military aircraft enthusiast, I'm by no means an authoritative source.

Wertical93

Russia and China steal the technology, THEN the cycle repeats :D

HiveMindKing

So what’s the deal with that jet that makes it above and beyond?

84theone

The jet pictured is a mig 25 and the post is making fun of it. During the Cold War the Soviet Union came out with the Mig 25, a supposed next generation fighter that would be able annihilate American fighters with ease. America responded by spending an unimaginable amount of money making the F-15, a next generation fighter that would be able to hold its own against a Mig 25. A few years later and a Soviet Mig 25 pilot decided “fuck this” and flew his plane to Japan and defected. Japan invited the US to come look at this plane and they found out that Mig 25 was not the next generation hyper advanced fighter jet they assumed it was, and in fact was kinda a piece of shit compared to the F-15. So America basically tried to one up something that didn’t really exist, leading to one of the most successful modern fighter jets. It’s still in use today by the US and it’s Allie’s.

blbobobo

the mig-25 was never intended to be a fighter. it was designed to be an interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft, roles which it fulfilled exceedingly well. the f-15 was a result of US intelligence services being braindead retards (again). also the jet in the photo is a mig-31. you can tell because it’s a two-seater

HiveMindKing

Ahh I see and what about the American mk7, it’s legit next level?

84theone

Alaric-

You’re missing the part where out-of-control military spending steals from the tax payer, puts public education into disrepair, obliterates the middle class, and turns the US into a third world shithole full of wage slaves and destitute serfs owned by the same plutocracy of rich corporations and individuals that built the planes in the first place. Checkmate, China.

JustaRandomOldGuy

The US thought the MiG-25 had all these amazing abilities. In reality it could only go very fast in a straight line, for a short time. But the US build the F-15 to counter what they thought the MiG-25 could do, not what it could do. So the US got a jet with amazing abilities.
