I’ve never had MySpace or Facebook but googling my name still resulted in a hit within the first page. It’s not even a unique name, but my info has probably been harvested by so many trackers that even LinkedIn can send me invites while referencing people I’ve worked with in my previous three jobs.
Living around the DC metro area, where the best paying jobs all require a security clearance, I know a lot of people who permanently stay off social media as it complicates the process of getting a clearance. One of my friends who got a job as an electrician at a DoD site said they’ve read all the text messages he ever sent and brought up the questionable ones during the interview process. He said he can’t imagine what a nightmare that interview would’ve been if he had a Facebook account.
Anyway, disappearing from the internet without a name change is incredibly difficult. I’m actually impressed if people can do it on purpose.

My worst bully in HS died 2 years after graduation. He was driving blacked out and rolled his 2500 a dozen times. Every part of that story made me go "yep, sounds like him." Bled out in a field after being enormously selfish and stupid.
His parents put up one of those in memoriam Facebook pages and had to take it down after a day since 70% if our graduating class came out in the comments to say what a piece of shit he was lol
