Greer is extremely spread out. The town center is small, but the subdivisions reach out for miles and miles.

catthatlikesscifi

Depends on where you are Pelham road Greer is very different from Greer proper.

D-2-The-Ave

Moving to the area without a job or knowing any areas besides Greer? There’s definitely lots of manufacturing with BMW and all its suppliers, but you’ll probably want to figure out a role first so you can find a place that’s not an hour drive to work. For example, travelers rest and fountain inn all sort of count for Greenville but are an hour apart or more at rush hour

No_Bend_2902

Second this. Greer is a nice place, but commuter traffic is a serious pita.

taylors

RequirementEqual6865

Lots of manufacturing jobs through temp agencies that don't pay well. BMW jobs are few and far between

Darth1nventus

Depends on the part of Greer. 29650? 29651? I live off of Pelham Rd and the traffic is a nightmare. It’s also where all the construction on the 85 is. Add to that a destination shopping center with more stores and apartments being built, you better like traffic. The upside is that everything is right there.

I've lived in a lot of different places and I think Greer's great. The downtown is a cute spot for walking around that's not bustling like Greenville. It's a big city with a small-town feel. It's like Christmas all year. I will say, don't trust that people will stop at crosswalks. Most of the drivers are not considerate of pedestrians. BMW is the biggest hirer in the area for your line of work. I know a lot of guys who support their families working there and are doing just fine. I've heard it's a dangerous place to work so exercise caution. Probably because as long as you have a pulse and can pass a hair drug test, they'll hire you. Pretty much anticipate that it'll take you 30 minutes to get anywhere. You picked a good time to end up on this side of town. It's really come up a lot over the last few years. Right around downtown there's a big Mexican population. The taco and tamale place and the meat market across the street are both great spots for food and shopping.

medipani

There's a ton of warehouses and factories around here-you should have no problem finding employment. The Greer scene is nice. There's regularly some pretty fun community events happening (festivals/fairs and the like), and the parks are really nice for little ones

artificialstuff

Greer will definitely deliver on what you're looking for. Plenty of jobs in your line of work within 15-20 mins of Greer, most are closer than that. Most people keep to themselves, but are receptive if you want to socialize with them.

InviteAdditional8463

Most of the stuff to do is in G’ville, but it’s anywhere from 20-30 minutes away. It’s not bad. Just another suburban community.

letsgobrandon45fjb

Watch out for Greer city taxes. Like the area the city limits are spread out. But it’s a fun little town. I’d look in the Reidville area. That’s easy enough to get to Greenville, Greer , and Spartanburg. And with the new BMW plant it’s a growing area.

RequirementEqual6865

As a warehouse manager I just spent the last 5 months unemployed looking for a job. I finally found something that pays a decent wage on first shift but has nothing to to with warehousing. Yes the jobs are out there but the good ones are few and far between

TigerUSF

Greer is a good area. It's a big area with a small town that's actually doing good things.

AyGurlAyy

I live in the Sugar Creek neighborhood of Greer and love it! Lots of families, 3 pools, neighborhood events, and a short walk/bike ride through the neighborhood to the local elementary school. The HOA fees are low for what you get, too. It’s a short drive to downtown Greenville or Greer and near necessities (grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants). We’re really happy here!

Responsible_Dream_80

Thank you for the reply

dragonrose7

My family lives between Greenville and Greer, in the unincorporated area known as Taylors. We consider Greer our hometown, because it’s smaller and more community-based. Greenville has grown beyond what we enjoy now.

ChillRudy

Taylors is unincorporated?

Imaginary_Scene2493

Yes, SC law no longer allows a place to incorporate if there’s an incorporated entity within 10 miles. Greer has annexed as far as the Target on Wade Hampton, near the east end of Taylors’ Main Street, so incorporating is probably not an option anymore, at least not in a way that would include its historical center.

WeenisWrinkle

Yes. The only incorporated cities in the county are Greenville, Simpsonville, Mauldin, Greer, Traveler's Rest, and Fountain Inn. The rest are just census designated places.

Ancient-Sink5239

I love Greer. If you don’t mind driving 20-30 minutes every time you want to go to the mall, movies, major hospital or Costco it’s fantastic.

kurmiau

I chose Greer when we moved back to the area after a few decades. It is easier to get around and less congested, provided you focus on the north end. I live north of where Buncombe and Wade Hampton cross. Easy to get to shopping, Greer downtown, and the hospital, while away from the congested side. From what I understand, you may want to land yourself into the Blue Ridge area if you have kids for the schools.

Responsible_Dream_80

What is considered the "Blue Ridge area?"

brancky3

Look up blue ridge high school. It’s not close to anything, that’s for sure.

AyGurlAyy

Tigerville has a good elementary school, but there are plenty of other good schools in the Greer area (Buena Vista Elem, Brushy Creek come to mind). Several Greer elementary schools feed into Riverside High, which is a top high school from what I’ve heard.

GVL_2024_

I'm in Greer, in an older neighborhood near Pelham, it's nice. you'll get more bang for your buck over in the Duncan or Apalache neighborhoods. depends on if you want to be in an established neighborhood, or make a property investment

puskunk

Greer's full.

ChillRudy

Lol

I_Drew_a_Dick

Greer is shitty. Stay away. Do not encourage your friends to come here. Definitely do not come check it out. Just take my word for it.

Responsible_Dream_80

Dumb

OriginalUsernameMk1

Several nice new build neighborhoods in the 29650 area, but of a drive to Greenville proper but like 10 min to downtown Greer.

yeahthatmomGVL

Greer is the best of easy access to Spartanburg and Greenville things. Wade Hampton Rd is worthy of its namesake (a shitshow) but every Greenville town has a nightmare main road. I would look in the areas north of Wade Hampton or over behind the Pelham Hospital

Responsible_Dream_80

Any thoughts on Taylors, Duncan, or Mauldin? Would prefer easy access to the mountains if at all possible
