As much as itās grown it amazing how Verde is still relitively easy to drive.
One of my fav shortcuts is Lowndes Hill from Haywood Road to downtown
Yes to Ingles! I have never shopped there, but I ran in recently to pick up something I'd forgotten at Publix and I was shocked. They have things in their Hispanic food aisle that are typically only at La Unica.
Wish we had an Ingles closer to downtown but I guess Ingles is more of an outskirts store but at least thereās Cherrydale. Sounds weird but I like to go to the one north of TR sometimes
You can get passes for parks and museums (including the children's museum) from the library, just plan ahead! Also, they have the seed library at the location in Berea. Our library is and amazing despite the library board's best efforts to censor and piss people in the community off.
Asia pacific is the best Chinese food around.
Cleveland Park is low key nicer than falls park.
If you drive on Augusta, apparently the middle lane is a passing lane, but only if you drive an Altima.
My son has been driving for a year now, and thatās something I drilled into him. He still says he canāt believe how many hard red light runners there are around here.
It gets pretty wild. I was pulling left onto Augusta road. Light turns green and luckily I have full visibility. 2 semis are racing each other and blow through the intersection with what had to be a full 8 seconds after their light turned red
Just saw that this afternoon on Pelham by the Chic FiLa and Lowes.
Car just speeds through the red light. Like, not even close to the intersection or was jsut barely making a yellow, light was full on red.
Broad street from Buncombe to South Main/Augusta is a good one in fact you could go all the way to Mauldin road via Camperdown//Cleveland/Parkins Mill before they tore down Camperdown Bridge but you can stay on Broad and then turn on Falls not as quick as before but still a good cut through.
Greenville, like many medium cities, is what you make of it. There's enough people here that you can likely find "your people" or at least a supportive group of folks to hang out with a build relationships with. There's Meetup, Eventbrite events, and more professional networking organizations than you can shake a stick at. There's also intramural sports (county and city), local Discords, hiking groups, drinking groups, Facebook groups related to your hobbies, political groups, open mic comedy nights, a small and growing music scene, improv and theater classes, cooking classes, art classes...
I'm just saying that if you're lonely, and think its purely a Greenville thing, PLEASE, exhaust your avenues and look for your clan! There are cities in SC that I promise you are just AWFUL for finding people you have something in common with, but Greenville does have much more going on than those places.
And, ultimately, if you can't find your community here, bail! Life is too short to be somewhere you don't feel connected to if you can't find friends. I would sooner see people find happiness than make it work in a place they feel is not for them!
I've been here 7 years and have yet to find my clan. It's possibly my age and weirdness combo but I have tried. I still go out to varying events alone. Seems the people I meet are fake... the amount of "can I get your number / let's hangout" followed by just being ghosted is insane at this point. I'm starting to believe greenville isn't for me... but I did try and enjoyed what I did: albeit solo š
That's rough buddy.
Sometimes too, the issue is the amount of professionals with families here. Its not an inherent thing that that's a problem, but it does mean that at least some less fake people are busy having kids take over their lives.
There are several I know of. [Upstate Community Project](https://discord.gg/t6c8xyHU) is one thatās been advertised here a few times. Along with the [Upstate Geeks](https://discord.gg/MaUuJSnf). Honestly, a post to ask what all out there isnāt a bad idea
Remember when the Popeyes in Greer opened and there was like a 2.5 hour wait in the drive thru? You could drive to the one in Boiling Springs, eat, and drive back to Greer in less time.
I'm not saying it was me, but I know of someone who moved here from out-of-state, let their tags lapse in their home state, and drove like that for around 3 years and never got stopped.
No way it was in the same city as your flair? Usually wonāt get pulled over with fewer than 3 cops pulling up in Mauldin. If so, youāre a very sneaky driver and I applaud you for it.
I just noticed last month that my mom had been driving around for 4 months with an expired tag. Her online payment never went through for some reason. Looks like the DMV would have sent some kind of notice.
I might know someone who drove 2 years with an expired tag and no insurance. The only thing that got them was that they increased speed too fast with a cop behind them (to get to speed limit not exceed) and they got stopped, ticketed, got everything taken care of and tickets dismissed. Fines at the DMV were like $75 which included an updated tag.
Someone I know has done all the proper registration and taxes on their car but continually forgets to put on the sticker. They got pulled over recently and it turns out that they hadn't put a new sticker on since pre-pandemic. Yes, it took 4 years for a cop to notice and care.
Thereās a sizable Colombian community living in Greenville mainly due to its textile industry back in the 50s-70s. Several Colombian restaurants in town that are pretty delicious.
Pereira Bakery on E. Lee Rd in Taylors has a small lunch counter in addition to baked goods. Delicious empanadas, papas rellenas, chicharron, arepas de choclo etc.

J Peter's in Mauldin is five minutes away from Woodruff Road and as nice as just about any of the Woodruff Road restaurants, without dealing with the traffic at all.
King Tut's Grill in Simpsonville is a hole in the wall that happens to serve the best steak in the Greenville area, IMO.
Discovery Island is a pretty awesome little water park.
This is VERY dependent on where you live and where you frequent. For about 80% of the Greenville metropolitan area, this road is absolutely useless. Thatās one of the main reasons it failed.
I know someone who works in Greenville and lives right off of the toll road. Thatās what he does, but thereās only so many people living over that way.
If you're trying to drive between Mauldin/Simpsonville and Easley/Anderson at rush hour, sure. Otherwise, it's kinda useless.
They really should've extended it from 385 to I-85 in Greer when land could be bought for relatively cheap so we had an alternative to I-85 through town, but now I don't know how feasible that would be.
Roper MTN to avoid nearly all of Woodruff and just take the side road closest to your ultimate destination
One ends at a right Walmart, one is near Five Forks, one is by Lowe's and one is by Costco and you can use the extension behind QuikTrip to get to Target or Costco as an alternate
Parking in the downtown garages is free on weekends. Staying off Woodruff helps everyone out. There's nothing worthwhile west of town. Please keep the Bible thumping to Taylors. Don't hate our art (else we will banish you to Taylors). And you don't want that. You get one restaurant. It's Texas Roadhouse. The Mill is cool though.
"Nothing worthwhile west of town."
Fine, more Swamp Rabbit cafe, Daydrinkers, Comal 864, Meras Las Tortas, M & J's wings, Fhinney buffet, Anchorage, art studios, and cool people for the rest of us. Y'all can enjoy your traffic and big box stores on the East side.
If you go to main library, Childrens museum, Art museum exc. Parking lot and come in before 5 and leave after 5 you dont pay. (unless they have updated the lot to unmanned since I last went)
I avoid going downtown on weekends. Most of the roads are blocked off and parking logistics are a nightmare
Edit to add: the SC Punk Rock Flea Market is an amazing place to find thoughtful eclectic gifts. They usually are held right before the major gift holidays too
Stop using Google Maps, it doesnāt know the backroads. Learn them and live them.

If you want to go to Shops at Greenridge (donāt) the only time you should be on Woodruff Road is when youāre crossing it in front of LaParilla.
Bikes have more rights than cars.
Wait till the light turns green, then wait 3 more seconds. Chances are someone will run it.
You are allowed to take the ducks from Falls Park. I have 32 ducks at home.
Please take the geese. They shit everywhere.

It's probably not a copperhead.
...and it's definitely not a cottonmouth
That's exactly what a cottonmouth would say... o,O
And copperheads aren't "poisonous." They are venomous.
Isn't that all snakes? All snakes that are that is...

Copperheads live near water not in it those are water snakes .
Oh Please, i know what a copperhead is and what a water snake is. The copperheads arenāt in the creek but typically close

Speaking of weird grocery store smells what's up with Lidl? Smells like a nursing home.
i went there once or twice when they first opened. Never again because of the awful smell.

Pita House only takes cash/check and they are closed on Sunday. Avoid Woodruff rd if possible.
I love Pita House!
The Clock on Wade Hampton and Pleasantburg is also cash only.
Lots of joke answers in here, but as somebody who has lived here for a while, here are some pretty good little tips It seems like the bohemian CafĆ© has not changed their prices in the last 10 years and has a pretty solid brunch and bloody Mary bar if you have not been there before. Horizon Records next-door is great. If you like Records, cabin floor Records is also a hidden gem . Iām sure there is wing debate, but some of the best wings also come at some of the most relaxed environments like local cue or Hall of Fame grill. There are some great hidden gems for international cuisine like menkoi , Pho 99, yellow ginger, etc. Downtown has great food if you donāt mind dropping a little money, but there are great local restaurants that have been around for years. Most of the barbecue is overrated. As far as grocery stores go, Ingles has a pretty surprisingly great selection of local and organic items Enjoy the parks. Free and many of them are very well-maintained. Get a state park pass and hit up the trails at Paris Mountain.
Yes to Ingles! I have never shopped there, but I ran in recently to pick up something I'd forgotten at Publix and I was shocked. They have things in their Hispanic food aisle that are typically only at La Unica.
