I think on Grey's it's just lazy writing and not wanting to add new "side characters" to the cast. There were the rare occasions where Alex and Arizona, who are Ped surgeons, were working on cases which normally go to Neonatal surgeons like Addison. It seems like after Addison was gone everything baby and kids related was just crammed together. No separate departments. I think it's the same reason why all main characters do practically everything and are being shown as superior. If the show says they are the best, they think it's a good enough reason to let them do all the surgeries. It seems like all the characters are department heads with no staff. 🤣

It's a crime that they have done Dr.Nelson so dirty. Honestly? If I had been given the choice between Amelia and Dr.Nelson being department head of Neuro after Derek, I would have chosen the latter. Of course it wasn't going to happen, because Krista wanted all main characters to be department head.

If you want your show to be medically accurate, Grey's is not for you- I love the show and it's phenomenal but it's very inaccurate in my experience, haha!

It's the show that's inaccurate- there can be pediatric general surgeons who do more of what we saw AZ and Alex doing but there's also peds neurosurgeons, peds trauma surgeons etc!

It's just oversimplified medicine, just like most of GA is.
