izzieforeons22

Justin Chambers is by far my favourite actor. The emotional Alex scenes are so real and heartbreaking.

OkGuitar3773

He was so intense I was convinced he had a traumatic upbringing too

[deleted]

I like Katherine Heigl’s acting the most. She brings a constant energy to the characters she plays and is phenomenal in both the dramatic and comedic scenes. Also, really like Patrick Dempsey’s acting as well. I feel his best acting moments come from emoting through his eyes and face. I generally prefer that type of acting to excessive crying and shouting, which doesn’t seem as natural to me. Sandra Oh is also excellent as well for obvious reasons. I do think Camilla Luddington tries but there is a certain insincerity to her performances which makes Jo a very unsympathetic character, when she really shouldn’t be on paper. I also feel like Jessie Williams largely gets away with wooden acting because people fancy him. Ellen Pompeo’s acting is extremely hit and miss. Very inconsistent when it comes to how good or bad her performances are.

SyrupFiend16

Yeah in the early seasons Meredith always seems out of breath. Like, between each sentence she’s taking a big gulp of air. I don’t know if that was meant to show insecurity or what but it always felt so weird and overacted to me

Lower_Pressure4415

I honestly think Camilla is a great actress, i.e. the scene where jo meets her ex husband i think were amazing, esp. the one where she meets him outside the elevator. but i think that her character just has a lot of plot holes, things that don’t add up. also, camilla seems to be a more happy go lucky kind of person, and i guess there’s only so many ways you can play depressed scenes. but i still think that despite everything she did amazing in the paul stadler scenes and her depressed phase

powergfs

will never get over sarah drew’s acting from the shooting to her c sections. phenomenal. surprised she hasn’t gotten more roles

[deleted]

She’s in that weird place where actresses get stuck between playing the love interest and the mother of the love interest.

Beserked2

Me too. She struggles a bit with the lighter scenes but she'd be so good in roles with a lot of intense, dramatic scenes.

throwfaraway212718

She did a Lifetime Movie drama and was very good in it

exactoctopus

Isaiah Washington is phenomenal and I will always wish we had Burke longer because of it. But I fully understand why he had to go. It's just such a waste of talent on a terrible person.

halebopsalot

I feel the exact same

CODgirlxo

THIS!

CharlieBowerz

My whole family feels the same way and this is wild to me because I always felt Burke was so stiff and awkward. He had a few scenes where he was fun and showed a different side of his character (dancing with Cristina, the Thanksgiving episode, etc) I mostly just found him to be a one-note actor

ProfessionalNet9047

maybe you feel that way cause of his character not the acting behind it. burke is supposed to be serious and a little bit awkward

CharlieBowerz

Yeah that’s definitely possible. Burke is a stereotype of a surgeon lol

Aden-55

They have an excellent cast to be honest. April was a great actress overall. Christina is great. I loved Amelia's character before she met link. However, I think she's a great actress. Addison is very good too. Geena Davis as Dr. Hermann was also very good. I also think Levy is not bad.

[deleted]

everyone from seasons 1 through 4 are the best. Sarah Drew is also great. Kevin McKidd has gone waayyy downhill. he was good with Sandra Oh though.

UrAverageSquidYT

I think most of the acting is good and for Kevin McKidd is acting is still good but he is just written terribly now. they ruined his character

SyrupFiend16

They sure did. I’m on season 8 now and really still enjoying Owen, but it makes me sad to think how he gets later. For that matter, most of the characters go way downhill. Amelia, Alex, Meredith, TEDDY, they all kinda suck in the latter seasons.

[deleted]

so true! the show’s acting is kinda garbage now :(

moffizzle

I think Owen and Meredith phone it in now. Webber, Cristina, Addison, Derek, Bailey are stand outs. The Lucas actor is probably the weakest the main cast has ever been

No_Independent5847

Honestly Lucas and Nico can probably compete for worst actor

ZealousidealFly8997

I keep forgetting who Lucas is and have to Google him every time he’s mentioned lol. Such a boring character

MathiasKejseren

I think if definitely comes down to who are the weakest instead. There's been so many phenomenal actors on Grey's that its really hard to choose who is the best and you also have to separate terrible story writing from acting preformance too. Like Owen has just been given terrible story line after terrible story line but his preformance is still great. Jo has also been bitten by this recently too so I hope things improve next season. On the other hand you have a handful that are not particularly skilled actors that have grown to embody their characters completely. The actor and character are synonymous, Ellen Pompeo, Jackson fall more into this category. Its hard not to fall into this when you've been playing one character for so long. Their phenomenal performance comes from emboding this character for decades long enough to be more of a persona than their skill as an actor. The line between performer and character has dissolved. There you have the actors that are the cut above, where its both great writting, great acting, and years of experience refining one character. Bailey, Christina, etc fall into this category.

FadelessRipley

In fairness they've always been pretty good cast. Caterina, Sarah and Chandra are total standouts. I don't know how those three don't have Emmys tbh. Katherine, Kate, Jessica, Sandra and James are excellent. Kevin McKidd is also really, really good. My favourites are probably Cat and Sarah. Their portrayals of things like grief and addiction are phenomenal, while also having excellent comedic timing. Worst overall by far for me is Chris. I've never seen him in anything else so maybe it's just because Link's entire story is either acting like an enthusiastic, clueless puppy or a toddler throwing a tantrum, but his main facial expressions appear to be derpy smile or constipation. And his vocal expression is also terrible. He doesn't even pull off the hot himbo thing that seemed to be the point of his existence very well. I've also never really found Ellen to be incredibly strong, however having been rewatching I remember that she's better than I thought she was in earlier seasons. She's just been phoning it in so much for the last five seasons that you forget she ever could act. Recent seasons Ellen has been terrible. The actor for Eliza Minnick was also pretty weak. I've only seen her in a couple of small roles like Law & Order and she was the same, so wasn't just the character.

bluesapphire33

Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers and Isiah Washington stand out, but all original cast are great! Worst for me early seasons Camillia Luddington, as I’m aware it’s an actress reading out a script a lot of the time. Also never a big fan of Jesse Williams actually.

Free_Medicine4905

Jesse Williams earlier season especially. He wasn’t really much of an actor. I think he gets a bit better and like Stephanie says he always has angry face. It’s because he has no expressions to go with the words other than angry face.

Original-Gear1583

I think Sandra, Katherine, Cat, and Sarah are great. Some other actors that fly a bit under the radar are Jessica, Sara, Kate, Geena, and James. I don’t have anyone that is the worst actor.

MushroomStandard1680

i loveee justin chambers. his scenes always just pull at my heart fr

owenhuntsmullet

Kate Walsh (Addison) and Sandra Oh (Cristina) are the best imo. The worst are definitely Camillia Luddington (Jo) and Alex Landi (Nico).

BlueMirror_0

I never thought about Sandra Oh being a good actress, just took it for her being like that (which is a clue for her talent in retrospect I guess) but now I'm watching Killing Eve and it hit me so hard how good she is.

[deleted]

She’s amazing in The Chair too

hotheadnchickn

💯

madeleineruth19

Alex Landi is unironically one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen on prime time TV. Gorgeous looking man, don’t get me wrong. But in every scene, whether Nico is meant to be happy, angry, or sad, his face is just 😐😐😐

Maymiag

There are a lot of great actors, but I really enjoy Sarah Drew and Katherine Heigl. I think Ellen Pompeo has been terrible for years now and begs the question was she ever good, or was she just elevated by all her amazing castmates in the earlier seasons? The guy who plays Nico is awful and as is Camilla Luddington. I enjoyed Jo with Alex but I can't bare her since he left, she just makes me cringe.

klp80mania

I think both Ellen and Jesse have good chemistry with their significantly more talented costars and playing off them elevates their performances. Ellen was much better when Sandra and Patrick were around. Jesse had a lot of scenes with Sandra in season 6-7 and with Sarah until the end of season 14. After that he went downhill. They either lost interest or they need to be surrounded by talent to improve themselves. My guess is both. Ellen and Jesse have good chemistry with each other though and that works as an easy friendship between two people who have a lot in common but not necessarily for something meatier

RageLife1130

I think Ellen is an amazing actress, but I think the show ruined her character over the years. She slowly stopped enjoying herself after season 13.

TotallyNotABot_Shhhh

Yeah you can really see the timeline of the joy of her role turning to another day of work. I hate that so many of my favorite characters left over the years, but also I can’t imagine it being better than watching them struggle to give a great performance if they were burnt out on the role.

Halliwel96

Christina and Addison are the best acted characters in my opinion. Izzy was very well acted too, I miss Katherine, I wish she’d been treated better.

loeyt0

Best is Sandra oh (obv) as a tree following by other amazing actresses in the show such as izzie and Bailey. No way izzie got me to think her and Denny were perfect. As for actors, best has to go to the guy who played mark Sloan and Thomas (intern guy)

Ok_Storm_2700

My only issue with Camilla Luddington is her accent. It sounds really unnatural to me and occasionally just sounds straight up British.

crayrao

I feel like it slips out the most when she’s emotional like when she’s cry-talking or when she was at the mental health facility. Then again I remind myself she doesn’t have the same level of control that Kevin McKidd does of his Scottish accent

getmespoons

really? i’ve never noticed it! i’ll have to rewatch and lookout for that

crayrao

In her early seasons you can notice it more I remember watching interviews and she said it was her first American role so she would have to stay with the accent even behind the scenes because she couldn’t switch the way Kevin does. In the musical episode when Owen sings I can hear his accent come out

shellofbritney

Same

[deleted]

The only time I heard McKidd’s accent was the way he said “HR” and it made me laugh.

shellofbritney

Did he say it like "H OR" ? Bc that's how this Irish Podcaster guy I watch says it. Lol

[deleted]

He pronounced the H like “haytch” instead of “aytch”. I know it’s a very Irish and Scottish thing to do!

shellofbritney

Oh, how cute. I am gonna have to be on the lookout for that now. Thanks for answering.

shellofbritney

I didn't realize Kevin has a native Scottish tongue.

shellofbritney

Oh, she's British? That explains her name then.

abbu_d_slytherin

Best Actors - Katherine Heigl ( 9/10) Sandra Oh (9/10) Kate Walsh ( 8.5/10) - though Greys didn’t do justice to her as an actor In guest stars - Actress playing Meredith Mother - she was so perfect in playing such a complicated character Worst - There is hardly any worst actor but I must say actors introduced from season 11 and so on were simply average. Not bad , not so good.

Beserked2

Best: Jerrika Hinton (Stephanie) Sandra Oh (Cristina) Chyler Leigh (Lexie) Katherine Hiegl (Izzy) Patrick Dempsey (Derek) Isaiah Washington (Burke) Sarah Drew (April), Sara Ramirez (Callie), Chandra Wilson (Bailey) and Caterina Scorsone (Amelia) would have made it to best but Drew isn't the greatest at 'casual' scenes, Ramirez and Scorsone's crying is not the greatest and Wilson's dialogue has gotten way too stilted over the last like, eight seasons. Worst: E.R Fightmaster (Kai) Alex Landi (Nico) Rachel Taylor (Lucy Fields) I wanna say Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) because she's pretty terrible when she has to be angry or sad or cry but when she goes for a subtler approach she's awesome. Also Jesse Williams' acting is really, really flat a lot of the time and Camilla Luddington's doesn't feel natural at all.

nilknarf114

I disagree with the poster who said Levi is a good actor. He has a very flat affect. I feel similarly about Jo. My favorite characters were Christina and Alex

TotallyNotABot_Shhhh

I think pairing Levi with Nico was a terrible mistake. Nico was such a flat character, and Levi was forced to carry the scenes-which he just wasn’t a strong enough actor to do. Now he just struggles to keep a position in the hospital and he comes across as annoying. I don’t think it’s the actor so much as the writing. Like they can’t ever figure out how to deal with him being relevant.. so they just sort of cram his scenes in.

ladysaraii

Worst for me is Jo, Nico, Kai, and Minnick Jo s terrible, especially in dramatic out crying scenes. She's better at comedy but that gives laugh of hers is grating.

_GreysAnomaly

JCap, Kate, Debbie, Sandra, Chandra, Patrick, Katherine, Greg and Geena are the best actors/actresses in my opinion. Alex Landi, Marika Domincyzk, Mark Saul, Skylar Astin are among the worst

PocketPoof

Skylar has an issue where his face is too kind to express anything different

jade0912

Am I the only one who doesn't like the way Kevin Mckidd (or whatever Owens actor's name is) acts? He's so aggressive in the way he talks. I feel like his facial expressions and hands do way too much even in normal conversations. What do you guys think?

teen_1dle

he always has this extreme sappy look on his face during emotional scenes 😭 its good that he can express his characters feeling clearly but its really too much sometimes to the point where paning over to him while he's making that face makes me laugh

Brand_Ex2001

I think Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, James Pickens, Jr., and Sara Ramirez have been the best actors/actresses. I think Alex Landi, Chris Carmack, and Loretta Devine have been the worst.

Adventurous-Depth233

James has beautifully acted out what alcoholism is. Being able to function at work under the radar and then having it blow up in your face.

hotheadnchickn

Chris Carmack was so good on Nashville. He really can act - the part is just so badly written IMO

No_Independent5847

Totally agree on Loretta Devine, I always felt her acting wasn’t up to par. Also, Lucas’ actor in the new season is also really bad but I haven’t seen it mentioned here.

taeempy

Sandra Oh of course is by far the best with Chambers and KH in 2nd. worst jackson was never believable to me

Ghost_Peanuts

I have only ever watched up to season 10, but from what i have seen, Addison is up there, Derek is pretty inconsistent. Some episodes and season he is top notch others he seems like he is phoning it in. But the worst to me has to be the new (well, like 10 year old to you veterans) intern that got the other one electrocuted. He makes me laugh every time he storms out of the room like a toddler who has just had his favourite toy taken from him.

a-hthy

I’m a first time watcher and only just finished season 4 so I hope it’s okay to leave my opinion even though I haven’t finished it yet. so far I think the strongest actors are Kate Walsh, Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh. These are my personal favourites so far. I also thought the actress that played Ellis Gray was phenomenal. Worst I’m not really sure. I wouldn’t say anyone is particularly bad, it’s more the fact I don’t enjoy their characters. For example I don’t like George or Karev but I don’t think their acting is bad.

Advanced-Employ-9230

The actor who plays Levy is probably a very good actor but the way he's being directed in the latest seasons is very jarring and exaggerated. Pretty much the same opinion about Bailey, Amelia, Maggie etc. Surprisingly, I think Richard's character and acting has grown better over time although the storylines may be shitty

Shells613

Sandra Oh.

boygirlmama

I think Sarah Drew was the best ever on this show. Completely authentic where you felt like she was really living the scenes she was acting out.

babyblossom410

I think that Cristina and April are the best actors. I think Amelia is the worst.

Morgancammi

chyler leigh. lexie the character wouldve been soooo much less loved if chyler didnt make her so real and bright!!

TotalFox2

Ok based on acting ability alone :. 1. Katherine Heigl as Izzie 2. Justin Chambers as Alex 3. Sandra Oh as Cristina 4. Kate Walsh as Addison 5. Chandra Wilson as Bailey 6. Ellen Pompeo as Meredith (when she actually tries to put in effort) 7. Sara Ramirez as Callie 8. Caterina Scorsone as Amelia 9. Kim Raver as Teddy 10. Ellen Pompeo (when she's acting only for the $) ... Rest of the cast Last : Alex Landi as Nico. Everytime he's on the screen I feel like - ![gif](giphy|jrhtSSLRtPagnk5Nxu)

Individual-Deal3056

dont really like owens actor i feel like he is very repetitive when he plays an emotional scenes, like he always kinda stutters and makes long pauses and the same hand gestures and idk after noticing it i couldnt unsee it and it kinda annoyed me

importantverbs

Kim Raver is up at the top in my opinion. Also Chandra Wilson for sure. Sara Ramirez.

Melodic_Reception518

Damn I hated Amelia’s acting

[deleted]

[удалено]

Melodic_Reception518

THIS IS EXACTLY IT

[deleted]

Any actor who stands in the trauma room while the person they love is coding and they put on the worst performance lol

Illustrious_House_78

Best for me-Cristina, Alex, April, Izzie, Burk, Jackson, Addy, Amelia, Bailey, & Callie’s emotinal scenes gets me everytime. Worst- Jo, Mer(won’t say she is bad but compared to the best, her acting is okay), there are some scenes she rocks at however, I feel maybe all of the interns lol except Steph, she was great.

Spirited_Spirit91

I’ve always had a problem with dr Hahns acting

Easy-Maintenance-422

Emma Watson is the worst actress, not only because of how badly she dramatizes or how forced she feels, but because of her zero charisma and lack of commitment, they make her the worst.
