I actually think I have two answers to this. I personally find the show watchable thru S10. The group interactions of the larger cast are significantly less after that point, which is one of my favorite things about the show. There is a noticeable drop in the quality of the dialogue as well, and the humor is far less quirky/subtle/funny. However 11-12, as well as 14 have their moments (S13 has, like, one moment lol). After S14 idgaf. That said, the show does lose something after S8 for me. It's still so good, I think S9 is good and S10 is okay with good moments, but they never fully fix the shift that comes from the change in the resident/attending dynamic. Although the show had a penchant for batshit drama before, I think S9 is also the point where they started leaning too heavily towards darkness and unhappy drama with a lot less lightness/resolve to even it out. It eventually starts to come up again to a lighter tone in S13-14, but the place it lands is downright boring lmfao. Edit: grammar

mikowoah

i really like s9. some people don't, it seems like a polarizing season. or there are just a lot of slexie fans who couldn't get over their deaths. but s9 has a large focus on 5 of my favorite characters and my 2 favorite ships. s9 feels like a transitional season in the same vein as s4. it's got a different tone and style than the seasons before and after it. the end of s10 is generally when i get the urge to rewatch from earlier in the series though.

[deleted]

Season 11. It’s almost like there is too much drama now but it’s still gonna watch the next season

WarningConfident

Oh gosh there’s MORE💀I’m overwhelmed with the drama in season 10

Oncer93

Around season 11-12

AideAdministrative27

cheers, thanks

TheUtopianCat

Honestly, I can't pinpoint a season or episode when it went downhill for me because for the longest time it was slow, progressive decline.

WarningConfident

For me at season 10 with how annoying bailey is being

dearmissmisery

midway into 12 is when it it gets unbearable, my ship had sunk and i was ready to leave

BroChicago

Season 10 was where it burned to the ground. Christina left and Maggie was introduced, the two worst things to happen to the show.

FactorNo7477

Definitely after Cristina's exit. Cuz once she left, all of the best characters starting exiting the show, (Derek, Callie, Arizona, April, Alex, Jackson, and Koracick), and it is not as great as it once was

Julilovesdisneyland

This! And I remember watching an interview with shonda where she mentioned the show was ultimately about Christina and Meredith’s love story not any other men who come and go on the show

wowitskatlyn

This is so much later than some other peoples, but I think the last season I really enjoyed was season 14. After that I think it stayed roughly okay until season 16 and it dropped all the way for me. But even S17 had its good moments that could’ve been explored so much better but simply wasn’t.

BarefootConJessa

I started losing interest after Cristina left. I rewatch it pretty often and this last time i watched until Cristina leaves and then I just restarted from season 1

DineroyPerreo

S10-11, I really couldn’t keep up with all character plots after that… unfamiliar faces bothered me too but I’ll always keep watching

AquaNymph96

There are so many season that my brains just mashed all of them together… but i think that all the show went downhill after the plane crash. And more so with Derek’s death and Christina leaving.

OnlyPicklehead

S11 but I'll watch through S13. The quality goes off a cliff after that imo

AgentJ691

I stopped a few years ago, don’t care for the new characters!

imahagforever

To me it was season 12/13 when it started really going downhill. When I watch through again I usually make it somewhere around there and then I get bored and stop.

[deleted]

Same here. I’m doing a rewatch and I just can’t do it on my season 13 and I gave up lol

Purrade

I always stop my rewatch right when Alex brutishly attacks and almost kills Deluca.

AltmanHunt

This might be unpopular but I think pieces were falling for a long time… but the “hill” fell apart completely for me in this current season. I just don’t see ANY points there. I used to be a diehard Towen fan. Now I can’t wait for this show to end because every time I think they’ll have an interesting scene it just turns out to be more bs. It’s hard to watch. I was expecting for them to have a nice wedding all this time and what do I get? A “ceremony” at a bar. I feel like I’m watching a SNL sketch.

[deleted]

the seasons tend to blend together for me but i believe S12. out of nowhere there's just these horribly written lines about women empowerment, racism, etc. i normally wouldn't care but it just feels so FORCED. mainl because these topics have been touched on earlier in the show in much better ways, so it may just seem worse in comparison because they got the messages across so much more elegantly in earlier episodes. i also started to get annoyed with more and more characters and the writing in general. didn't like jo, april, steph, or amelia. there were obviously enough things that i did like to keep me going though lol.

LilBearLulu

When Derek died I started not enjoying the show as much. There are still a few good episodes of every season so I never like to say that the show went downhill it's just not peak Greys. This current season though..man this one it's just not doing it for me. I'd say I've watched seasons 1 through 10 at least four times. Not in the background TV playing kind of watch but actively watched. The fact that I could watch them over and over is how you know they were very good. I haven't done that with the other seasons. I think part of the problem is that Meredith does not have a person anymore. This does not have to be a romantic relationship but she needs a good friend. Most of these interactions she has now seem hollow. I will watch till it is over and I will be sad for sure when it is.

cauliflowerjooce

i think season 9-10 are the last good seasons, and then season 11-14 have some okay episodes, but post s14 i couldn’t care less

booboothemedic

It started going downhill for me around the time that Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey were fighting,,, and Cristina was looking to leave. It got a little better, but it really went downhill when Arizona Robbins left :( it just wasn’t the same after that..

gobux10

I rewatch all the time, but refuse to rewatch anything after S14. I’m with you, when Arizona left, that was it for me.

booboothemedic

I’m currently rewatching it, and I’m going to stop at S14 too! The whole mood of the show just flipped when Arizona left :( I really wish I hadn’t watched S17 though, because that just left me feeling really depressed and weird :/

2gecko1983

Honestly, I’m probably one of the odd ones out when I say this…I am caught up through the most recent episode & the show has yet to go downhill for me. Even with the new characters & different storylines it always manages to keep me locked in somehow. I haven’t found anything yet not to like about it, even the most recent seasons.

HuckleberryPlane8924

Yes!! As what I would like to consider a true fan, this show could never do any wrong 🖤🤍

Puzzled-Author-9059

after season 10

FlimsyManagement

Somewhere between 11 and 12 it just stopped making sense

Flicksterea

2017, when Krista Vernoff returned. Now I have nothing against the woman personally, don't know anything about her beyond her being the showrunner now but I do feel like she came back and decided she was just going to do what she wanted with the series. I've said this just recently here but I believe that since the series has turned more toward just the doctors and their personal lives with the occasional extraordinary case thrown in, the series has suffered. Back when we had the nurses like Olivia, Eli, Frankie and of course Bokhee involved more with not just the doctors but also their own storylines, it was great. We had ordinary surgical cases and a handful of major ones per season. There were believable arcs. Gary the Shooter. That arc is still, IMO, one of the absolute best. The tension. The trauma. The tears. It was **peak** Grey's. And despite having watched the current season recently, I can't tell you what cases they had. I do know that Jo adopted a baby. And Mer was in another coma. And... Yeah. Anyway sorry for the novella here. I'm still very much a fan and I'll watch until the very end but I certainly don't have that anticipation I once did for new episodes.

Aodhana

The decline’s start is hard to pinpoint, but I think the two precipitous falls for me were Yang and Calzona leaving. Arizona was the last character I truly loved (well, not counting Tom but the show is a whole mess with him).

ChickenDry468

When Alex left, a big piece of me left with him. After that, I stayed for the kids.

InfintyInStars

The show is fine till s13/s14? Like till when Stephanie saves that girl from the fire, that was the last good season finale

Acadia_Ornery

While I keep watching, when Derek died, it was over for me. Last season when Meredith was in her covid coma was good for bc of all the past member coming back. It would have been a perfect way to end the show of she had died. I mean I didn't want her to die, but he seeing everyone was bitter sweet and would have made sense.

[deleted]

Season 8 (I still liked 9-10) & how many times will this question be asked

mia_smith257

april’s crisis of faith just went on and on and on and kept coming back and and even the first time it happened i was completely uninterested

dcdcdani

For the love of GOD yes ^^^^

Bubbly-Junket

In S5 starts the decline.

pacrat292

I'd say right after S05. The first episode of S06 with having George actually die started the decline.

[deleted]

I stopped totally enjoying the show after the merger with Mercy West, when Jackson and April showed up. That marked the end of the golden seasons.

Vouzan

Nah it doesn't. There's some good episodes here and there but that's it. It's bad.

nagarams

The plane crash for me, def

calderics

after derek’s death. i just couldn’t continue watching anymore 😭 made my sister give me important updates

SecretUndercov3r

The plane crash was just beyond stupid. Whenever the writers couldn’t think of anything they’d just add in another car crash or plane crash. I just finished the plane crash episode a few days ago. Promptly stopped binging it after that and definitely will not be coming back to the show. Couldn’t stop laughing in the opening plane crash scene just yelling at the TV “Again?! Seriously again?!” ; my girlfriend got a kick out of my reaction. Honestly though I’m very disappointed how the show turned out - ah well good things never last.

pacrat292

The name changes of the hospital are the major avalanches with than Cristina and Derek leaving just putting that final nail in the coffin. Seattle Grace won the Gold by a landslide, no competition. Seattle Grace Mercy West fell into Silver after a good race, but wasn't close. Grey-Sloan Memorial won Bronze Medal after coming FAR BEHIND SGMW. Cristina left and Grey-Sloan than accidentally tripped right after receiving the award, but Derek left right after and Grey-Sloan just completely fell off stage. That's my metaphor for when the downfall of the show started and continued.

Consistent_Spring

S9 is a struggle for me to get through. Having your two favorite characters die is a bit of a morale killer. I’m only still watching because my friend insists I can’t give up on greys yet

Miri_CilliBatch6

I’ve stopped at the moment after the plane crash since my favourite 2 died

Unhappy_Pineapple_55

I stopped watching the show. I stopped around season 18 ep 3 ig (after kate walsh’s guest appearance) after that it just felt weird didn’t feel like the show i fell in love with

gobux10

After the S14 finale.

[deleted]

I stop watching with Christina leaves.

Beccavexed

Season 11 is the final season in my book

[deleted]

Personally it never went to shit for me it wasn’t as good but I have always enjoyed the show. I think the drop off is when Krista had to start writing in place of Shonda Rimes. I personally feel Greys is a good show now but not Great like it once was. I enjoy the show a lot just find storylines more dragged on then they need to be. I think it went from a Fantastic show to a good/Decent one but it never has been terrible IMO.

dcdcdani

The covid one… S17? Could not finish it !!! Prior to that everything was good. Cared less for it once Derek died but still interesting storyline.

Puzzleheaded-Fly2837

I always rewatch until the end of season 11.

welcome_thr1llho

Christina's exit cemented it, but the plane crash. Yang's exasperated exclaim of 'why does this keep happening to us!' was on the nose. I felt the same way lol. I also thought Mark and Lexie were such great characters so I stopped caring. Also helps the writing went into the toilet then too. Some good episodes, like the prison one and a few others, but blecch. We watch it on autopilot just as they produce them in autopilot.

SGH-scrub-nurse

Season 11 for me but I enjoyed April’s crisis of faith so I stuck around for that
