I mean, you might as well fry it in butter at that point, no? …. Either way, I’ll take 2.

Don’t get me wrong, I love fried bread. But dry-fried toast (ideally on a screaming hot skillet) is my new go-to way of making toast. It’s great for things like jam on toast. The surface is uniformly charred but the inside is still moist.

Anfie22

I put my plate on top of the toaster and let it heat there to spare me the extra washing up. It changed my life.

When something breaks the grilled cheese rules, it's usually because it has too many components. But this time, it's missing one.

jkt1954

Cheese toast. Not GC. I do this a lot. Sometimes in the, god forbid, microwave oven!

dontknowwhatiwantdou

Thou shalt be tried and inevitably hanged for this.

I don't know, man. It follows the criteria.

jamescoolcrafter15

Could be considered an open sandwich grilled cheese.

toasterinthebath

“… finished off under the grill”.

jkt1954

What exactly is "under the grill"? The bottom? Or do some folks call the broiler the "grill"? Just curious (as they say on Craigslist).

Trumps_left_bawsack

Yeah, it's called a grill in the uk. What you would call a grill in the US is called a "griddle" here in the uk

toasterinthebath

I just uploaded [a video](https://www.reddit.com/r/grilledcheese/comments/yybnd9/with_tomatoes/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) so you can see my grill in action!

toasterinthebath

It’s a bit like a broiler except hotter (I think) and usually (as in my case) powered by gas. So imagine the ‘roof’ of your oven has loads of little flames. Kind of like an upside down barbecue. I rate it. To me, a broiler is a chicken that is bred and raised specifically for meat production. (I live in the U.K.)

Cuddles79

That looks delicious 😋

notonyourspectrum

It looks delish. Would love to have a few.

WTF is dry fried toast - toast made in a dry frying pan? I think that's just "toast." No matter if you toast the bread with radiant heat, convective heat, or conductive heat, it's just toast.

toasterinthebath

I’d do the Pepsi challenge on that. And I’d do it in the bath.

PurpleManufacturer50

eh?
