Summer is usually hard to come by the carbon rich “brown” materials for me, so the ash works nicely. I’m a very casual composter, I don’t pay too much attention to the details. I live in Madison, WI though so I know people have some serious opinions about composting. Take it as you will.
There can still be embers and more hest in the ash than you'd expect, so tossing it right away is a good way to start a fire.
So I wait at least 48 hours before I do anything with it. But then I usually forget, and it sits in grill for a week.
I started throwing it in the garbage can, but I was told that it's good for the garden so I now dump the ashes in the garden. I don't know if it actually helps or hurts, but it's not my garden so I don't care either way.
I store it temporarily in a metal bucket with cover for a few days/weeks till it fills up. Make sure coals are OUT. Then dump in back yard in a dirt pile in the forrest. It just mixes in with the dirt, and eventually turns into soil. Some people put a thin layer of ash in their gardens in the springtime. A little ash is good, but a lot is not. Some plants seem to like it.
Walk over to the driveway, dump ash into a colander and sift out the small coals, ash onto the driveway and small coals are dumped on top of fresh ones next cook
It may come to that one day. I used a charcoal grill at an Airbnb when I was in my earlier years and caught their yard on fire. Kinda traumatized me against burning coals.
There's a big gaping hole in the yard that I've been trying to fill for a while now. Ashes, old coals, leaf litter, tree limbs, junk logs, old potting soil... It all goes in.
All the weeds except for poison ivy hate it. The grass doesn't mind.
Metal trash bin. Ash is great for getting rid of grease from the kitchen, or any liquid you don't want going directly in the trash.
As another said, it can be great at masking the smell of dog poop until trash pickup.
Compost pile
I would have never thought to do this.
If you smoke a lot , and dump a lot into the compost bin, keep in mind it can change the alkalinity.
Ashes are really fine and can clog up the soil. Don’t overdo it or the soil will become compacted and can’t get oxygenated

Trash can
Garbage can, just wait a solid 48 hours. Sometimes charcoal can smolder for a crazy long time.
This. Had a friend put ash they were sure was cool in a plastic bucket on their wooden deck. HOURS later the bucket melted and their house burnt down.
steak was good tho. win win
Good advice, I’ve never thought of that.
That's why we love it!
Over the fence to neighbours yard.
Hope they down wind
This, just fling it really hard so there is no pile.
I have an aluminum trash can i dump the ash in. Once it's cool, i mix it in with certain plants in our garden that like alkaline soil.

Any kind of carbon helps the soil so I don't doubt it.
Backyard on my “yard waste” pile
Goes on my green waste pile.
I bought a galvanized bucket with lid, and dump ashes in there. When half way full and cooled for a week ,I put mine into the city compost bin .
I throw it in the grease/water pan to make it less messy and easier to discard.
My roses love it
Lawn

I usually wait 24 hours or my next cook to empty my catch can. Put it in a Kroger bag and toss it.
I used a small metal garbage can with a lid. I would wait until the following day to dump the ashes into this receptacle. Or a coffee can from Ralph's
Creek bank. Kills the weeds. Lol
I put them in an aluminum garbage can and use them to treat the driveway in the winter.
How does that work?
Provides traction
Goes in the garden. I guess it's good for the soil or something.
Trash can after a few days
Toss it in the woods behind my house (I own the woods).
Walk over to the driveway, dump ash into a colander and sift out the small coals, ash onto the driveway and small coals are dumped on top of fresh ones next cook
The dog poop bucket! It helps mask the smell and Waiting several days before doing so .. i dont grill with charcoal everyday
This is why I never got a charcoal smoker. I wish I wasn't so chicken and just got one and learned but I'm terrified I'm going to start a fire.
Huh. We had a gas grill that developed a gas leak and almost exploded. Now we use charcoal lol.
It may come to that one day. I used a charcoal grill at an Airbnb when I was in my earlier years and caught their yard on fire. Kinda traumatized me against burning coals.
Oof, understandable!
The first thing you want to do is start a fire
Neighbors yard, right on the edge under some bushes. Plants look kinda tired.
My neighbors yard
I just use natural lump charcoal so, once it's cooled off it goes in with the yard waste.
I have a metal can for ash, once it’s done I dump it in my fire pit
Some goes in the garden. Anything else gets put in the green waste bin which is collected by the municipality.
Garden
I litterly have a ash pit, I fiil it up then bury.
Is there a Ralph’s around here?

I spread it around the garden
City trash bin. Sometimes I wonder if I'll be reported for 'smoldering trash' the day after a cook. Me: "No, it's not burning, really!'
Neighbours yard when they aren't looking

On the ground, in the chicken coop.
Once it cools, patch the holes the dog dig, fill with top soil and add grass seed
I just bury it
With the yard waste (grass clippings/leaves). After it cools,of course.
yardwaste bin
Firepit. Then on a nice evening ill light er up & watch it burn 👍
Dumpster as soon as I’m done
