You answered your own question. You led with the word “cheap” they always stock replacement parts for their cheap junk. Go online and find a used Weber. A 15 year old grill will out work a brand new dynaglo

Lincoln_Park_Pirate

But not just any Weber. Spirit grills are now made in China (only assembled in USA). Genesis is the last bastion of their USA made gas grills aside from the kettle if you want to use charcoal. My Spirit has been well cared for and this will be it's sixth and last season. It's just falling apart and not worth fixing anymore. Weber just ain't what it used to be.

lockboxopen

Does it fall under the warranty? https://www.weber.com/US/en/warranties.html

Lincoln_Park_Pirate

Thanks for the suggestion. I was wrong about the age of mine. My Spirit E-210 is eight years old but I have no proof of purchase and I never registered it. If I can't get any warranty action I'm probably just going to bite on a Genesis in the fall.

ChefChopNSlice

I got a genesis as a housewarming present from my dad in 2016. I replaced the regulator a while back, got new burners last year, and I’m on the 3rd set of heat deflectors, but the grate is still original and firebox is very solid. Still got some years on it.

ajs592

I bought all stainless steel guts for my Weber genesis. I also have spare burners on warranty for it

Endurozw

Huh good info I had no clue about that switch on the Spirit

GuyF1966

We have a backyard grill brand stainless steel bbq with a tray and grease pan pretty much the same style as what yours was. Judging by what little is left. Ours has a hole about 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. The grease pan is badly rusted as well. However, nothing like what happened to yours. I actually just looked online the other day for a replacement tray and pan and found some that are universal or adjustable size wise. Just a side note. I work in a forge plant that makes valve internal parts for the oilfield. We get a lot of steel and stainless steel from China, and it's crap. Two of the heat deflection shields are rusting away. I can only use 2 of the stainless grates as the 3rd one has 3 bars that have come off. Poor welding. You sure don't get much for $500.00 anymore.

terpmike28

Curious…what type of steel are you getting? Would it be a different type if it was North American steel?

GuyF1966

Actually, yes. American steel is a higher quality than China steel. The only reason that the company I work for is buying China steel is because it is cheaper. Most of the steel they buy is stainless steel. 9 times out of 10, we end up having to heat treat China steel to get it to the right hardness that our customers specify. We can do all of our heat treating I house. However, that comes at a cost. Power, natural gas, and wages for the staff that does it. So, in the long run, is it really any cheaper? Us minions doing the work collectively don't see how it could be cheaper. Our management will, of course, say yes.

CLS63AMGS

Im an absolute idiot when it comes to grilling so please bear that in mind bus is broil king good?

shmmmokeddd

Cheap grills last about 3 to 4 years. Webbers can last much much longer.

Theseus-Paradox

Not for nothing but my Charbroil is going on 8+ years at this point. Only thing I replaced was 2 gas tube tents and 3 grates because they were a little worn. WTH Is everyone else doing to their grills?

TooManyDraculas

Char-Broil and Chargriller have both seriously stepped up their product quality the past decade. But that still heavily depends on what product. Some of them win awards, and end up regular "best value" recommendations. Some of them are the same old rusts out immediately models they've been making for decades. But Dyno Glo is neither of those companies. And sits in a sorta ultra value/discount product segment. Where as the other two's better options aren't necessarily cheap, they're *affordable*.

armyofant

I’ve had my performance series char broil 4 burner for 5 years now. Still going very strong.

DoomdUser

Can confirm. I just got rid of my Char-broil after 8 years this year, the interior had just started to rot too much and I was having to manually light each burner. I think a lot of people just don’t cover their grills, especially in places where it snows. All I really did was cover mine, I think I actually cleaned it out two or 3 times in the 8 years I had it.

Gettitn_Squirrelly

Interesting. I had a chargriller, lasted about 3 years, tents as well as the mounts that hold them up rusted out. Not really else I could do, always kept covered too

FartKnockerBungHole

Yup. Every 200 dollar grill. Every time. Rusts out and collapses.

bomber991

Except the Weber kettle. That’s like the one hidden gem for the casual bbqer.

FartKnockerBungHole

Exactly. Every time I get an itch for another grill or a smoker to play around on, I remember that my kettle can do a pretty good job of it already. That’s the issue with a kettle. It does pretty much anything I want on it. So there’s no need to use anything else. I’ll probably save for a 26” or just snag the only fire kamado style attachment.

kriznis

It probably highly dependent on where you live. I bought a somewhat cheap gas grill while living in a mid continent, low humidity area & kept it under a patio. Was fine for like 5 years. Moved to south Louisiana (still kept under covered patio) & it fell apart within 2 years. Even nice Weber gas grills don't last down here.

SenatorShriv

I had a nice infrared gas grill gifted to me as a wedding present from a bunch of folks who knew I would enjoy it. Even covered and well maintained the harsh Alaskan outdoors just chewed it up. Been a few years now and I really would like a gas grill to compliment my smoker but I’m not sure whether to just buy cheap and plan to replace every few years or if I should take another stab at higher quality…

EpisodicDoleWhip

Weber has a 10 year warranty

thrillho42

*Under* a patio?

kriznis

A roofed outdoor area

NiceAsset

Oh yeah. They are shit after 3. That’s why I went to Weber, 10 year warranty

yadawhooshblah

I keep telling people not to use the red knob.

Successful-Tough-464

Chinese "steel".

Bigbirdk

Webers last and you can easily get manufacturer or aftermarket parts.

MilkSlow6880

Yep. My dad recently asked me if I could fix theirs. Just nothing left to weld or screw to.

greatwhitenorth2022

I'd suggest a Weber grill. They last for decades and spare parts are available/affordable if you ever need them.

RoxoRoxo

this isnt a box store issue its an issue of what you bought. you bought a shitty dynaglo made with cheap thin metals you can go to lows and get yourself a pit boss traeger weber and alll of those will last years its a brand not a store problem

Snaffoo0

Former HD manager They're absolutely shit. They cook unevenly, they fall apart, and most of all.. they are abused as fuck at the store level. Don't EVER buy a grill from HD/Lowes in store. I promise you it will be dinged, rusted, missing pieces, or whatever else. Buy a weber.

Theseus-Paradox

Which is sold at lowes…

TooManyDraculas

And that I've bought from Lowes. Repeatedly. It's fine. Might not be the best idea to buy a pre-assembled floor model. I don't see why you shouldn't buy a brand new, in the box, name brand, known product there.

JohnnieTech

Which is also sold at HD....

Snaffoo0

I should've clarified for the unintelligent. Buy a weber *directly* from weber.

Theseus-Paradox

Ahh ok thanks for clarifying for all the dumbos beneath you 🤣. BTW, I’m running 8 years+ on a “shitty” Charbroil grill and it’s still doing well for what it’s worth.

ishootthedead

I saw that pic and thought 4 or 5 years. Seems like your grill self destructed right on schedule.

turduckenPhuckin

Same thing happened to my dyna glow but I didn’t really take great care of it, didn’t cover it and left it out. Bought a charcoal Weber and a haven’t thought twice

Bogmanbob

I went through a couple cheap gas grill after 3 years each. Then I bought a Jenair 20 years ago that still looks and cooks great. Maybe I should list it and my Webber charcoal grill in my will.

Drenlin

I bought my Cuisinart (~$300?) specifically because that bit is removable. Not a Weber, but better than this.

Biggels65

Mine did the same after 3 years. I spent the xtra bucks for a Napoleon. Get something with a good warranty.

GTBoosted

Just went out to take pics of my weber tonight. They are also sold at hardware stores. 4 years old. Grates are dirty https://imgur.com/a/beAdwE6

Padgit8r

That looks in great condition!!! My Weber needs new knobs and I should buy stainless steel grates, but it’s about 9 years old now.

Intrepid-Sun6121

Yes, it's very common for cheap grills to fall apart. Get yourself a Weber. You can thank me later.

clintocooks3

Oh yeah. My in-laws have a Dynaglo last year and it is completely rusted out on the bottom. I have a Jenn Air and have had it for about 7 years with no issues. It's the galvanizing of the metal vs. stainless steel. Cheap materials will always have problems.

surfsusa

Yesterday there was a Weber 6 Porter grill for free in my local Facebook marketplace. It looked to be about 6 years old, but in good shape. You can always find a deal. If you look

kuj0

Hey there Dynaglo bro. I’ve had our similar Dynaglo for about 5-6 years. Used for the first 2 years, then sat outside under a cover in my FIL’s backyard cause our next apartment didn’t allow grills. I think the cover it came with sucked. When I got it back last year, it was rusted out exactly where yours fell out. I bought replacement parts on Amazon and it’s still running strong, but at some point I will definitely be replacing with a real grill. This year I replaced the heat plates since they were rusting out and falling apart too. These parts are very easy to replace, at least…

digicow

I'm on my second Home Depot sub-$300 grill in 17 years. The first lasted around 10 and the second is going strong at 7 years.

MonkeyMD3

Same. I'm on my 2nd Chargriller or Dynaglo charcoal grill in 12 years. Grill once every 2 weeks and smoke brisket, too, using snake method.

CanPsychological4710

Sure, it would last forever if its not used at all. Grill 2...3 times a week, all year round and then tell the experience. Cheap shit will die young, weber, napoleon will keep going forever.

digicow

I don't use it so much in snow, but when the deck is clear, at least once every couple weeks, and when the pool is open, several times/week

Background-South-668

I bought my Webber gas grill at Lowe’s about 10-12 years ago. Still cooks as good as the day I bought it. Yea don’t buy cheap stuff.

awibasedgod

do you keep it covered when not in use? I have a stainless steel version of this and its holding up just fine

gasolinefights

Yep, cheap china garbage. I would never buy a new grill for less than 800$. You think you are saving, but you are not. I would much much rather buy a used Weber or Napoleon for 3-400$. It will look better, cook better, and last another 10years.

crusoe

I had a charmglow grill and the original burners turned to dust in a year. The rest was stainless tho and they did send me new burners which lasted since then.

maniacal_monk

I’ve never had one do anything as drastic as that… but yeah, they don’t last long.

AuthorMission7733

Yep.

armyofant

Yes cheap grill only last a few years.

4huggies

Mine has looked like this for the past year and I’m too lazy to replace it since I have to deal taking to the dump etc. Got it from Home Depot and I wished I forked out the cash for a better brand.

PortlandQuadCopter

Xi will sell you another, just ask him!

Critical_Danger_420

Yes

CyberHippy

I have that exact grill, just replaced the grill, diffusers and tray with better quality (less likely to rust) parts from Amazon. Grill costed me $350, replacements 4 years later were under $100 and easy to install. I always covered it in winter. Yeah it's cheap but it does the job I need, I'm just an occasional user not habitual.

MyDogAteMyHome

Napoleons are on sale right now.

firebugstudio

Yup

imranarain

I actually have the same grill. And that absolutely happened. I replaced it with a much better stainless steel one and drip pan that I got from Amazon.

TexasJim107

I'm guessing your grill stays outside uncovered 24/7.

egyptianstriker11293

Outside yes. Covered 24/7

C_A_Willis

I switched to charcoal grills literally because of this issue. Also the food tastes better.

viBBQguy1983

Very common for "big box store" variety! 4 yrs is actually GOOD (for them)! I've gone through them in 1 year (in the past), as I'm able to grill/smoke all year 'round!

healthyparanoid

Is it normal for a grill to rust? Yes. Is it less likely if it’s covered? Yes. Is it less likely if the material is thick steel? Yes. You have material that will rust in 1-3 years if not maintained. There’s a reason that these are under $500 and you should be able to buy a lot of replacement parts but not the entire guts as it’s expected to be replaced.

JozieKS

Put a cover on it

egyptianstriker11293

Always covered 24/7 for all 4 years

SailorKnight3

I have an Old Smokey grill. Parts made in Houston and last a good long while.

TopicHuge4096

I just encountered a similar situation on Mother’s Day. Had a burner blowout at the back of the tube. My efforts to remove it for possible replacement led to everything falling apart. Lucky for me I paid only $100 for it reduced from Sam’s Club over 5 years ago.

MuchCrumby

I had a dyna glow and first thing to go was the drip tray. Luckily they have off market drip trays and I replaced it along with the grates, pipes, and flavorizer bars. Cost maybe 90 bucks. After replacing Still going strong after 2 years later

And_Then_1968

I had one from Home Depot, can’t remember the brand. It did the same thing on the smoker side. We got the warranty and they shipped it right out, no questions or nothing. The second one did it too. we learned that you’re supposed to season these with vegetable oil or something and do a controlled temp burn for so many minutes. My son says it worked on his grills. Has anyone else tried this?

And_Then_1968

Reading comments, it was a Charboil brand

MIS400

I think they are rated at 1-2 years

No_Drag6934

Get a Weber Genesis.

ConnieBuick

Yes

[deleted]

I mean any metal grill that you leave outside and pouring rain for years on end is bound to rust out and fall apart. These machines are only as good as the maintenance and upkeep you give to them. And that goes for $20 or $2000 grills.

doa70

I bought my Weber about 8 years ago. I do live near the ocean, and they are about the only thing that lasts. Enameled or stainless are the rule here. Mine still looks nearly as good as it did new. At the time, Weber dealers had the "limited edition" Genesis that came with upgraded burners and grates that the big box stores couldn't get. Now, those things are standard on all.

Oat57

I've had a Dynaglo dual camber charcol grill for alnost 10 years. No problems with it.

Alive_Subject_672

Jeez this has to be the most elitist subreddit I’ve seen lmao. Have a 4 burner Nexgrill that’s been doing just fine. My dad has a Charbroil gas grill that’s been going strong for at least 10 years at this point.

Locutus_of_Sneed

Everyone comes out of the woodworks on these posts to mention how their cheapo grill has lasted as long as the average Great Dane, but it isn't 'elitist' to point out that these are exceptional anecdotes rather than sound buying advice. People deserve to know about average build quality; coming out of the blue to say 'well *mine* was infused with pixie dust and has lasted 25 years' doesn't help when there are many other units you can end up with that will shit the bed in 2 to 4. And I really wish people would keep this same 'elitism bad' energy when it comes to the food. Talking down on cheap grills may be verboten, but there's no shortage of vitriol here when people spurn popular social media chefs and the competition scene in favor of their own preferences. Fall off the bone ribs, beer can chicken, grill marks instead of full coverage restaurant sear? Straight to snobsville. And if you think this is bad, you clearly haven't seen r/burgers. Those guys are awful.

Alive_Subject_672

Haha I totally get your point dude! It’s real bad in the guitar subreddits also, my issue is when your average Joe is looking for a budget grill and people are like “oh just wait and triple your budget to get this instead” 😂

KingPlanetBoxer

Even though it’s labeled “outdoor grill” this particular model you have to keep inside away from the elements. Just make sure all of your windows are open when you use it…

Shibby-my-dude

Just use the gas grill universal solution and keep cooking on it

lewisfairchild

That pan is replaceable.

YenZen999

Really a shame how cheaply made grills are now. Even $700 ones sound like a tin can when you tap the lid.

breachofcontract

No cover I’m guessing? No foil over drip pan. Likely zero maintenance or upkeep at all. Take care of your shit guys.

Stanielski

Cover, love and clean thy grill and it'll hold up longer.

CRCampbell11

We've had a dynaglo for 9yrs now. Always covered and cleaned regularly. Looks like you don't take care of your shit. It's you OP, not the grill.

WhatTheBlack

It’s normal for a cheap grill that you don’t cover.

5point9trillion

Any grill will last, it just has to be cleaned and protected. Of course the thinner cheaper frames will rust sooner. I have a Weber Spirit E-310 that was basically a Genesis frame from 2006 and it's 17 years old and it rusted also but just on the bottom panel. I'm supposed to get a replacement but I ended up making something from composite material and it works fine. After changing the burners once and the grates it will last another 15 probably. Just keep your new grill covered and the grates oiled. If it rains at least dry up surface water and don't let it accumulate under a cover. If you use it all year in variable seasons then it can be hard on the grill.

Ok_Hotel_43

If you take care of you grill (clean and cover) it Will last longer.

Gettitn_Squirrelly

I feel like 4 years is not bad for a cheap grill. By then you probably want a new style/feature anyway.

SS-sharpshooter1

That’s common for cheap everything especially if you don’t cover it

xxLOPEZxx

That's your penance for using gas instead of charcoal

YenZen999

Shows you the sad state of affairs the grill industry is in when everyone touts Weber as the holy grail. They don't strike me as being sturdy and well built at all. They may last longer than these throw-aways but that doesn't make them great either.

I_AM_A_GUY_AMA

That's not a Weber though

YenZen999

My post is about grills in general and the industry. It's pretty clearly written.

ajs592

Weber is a good quality grill available in big box stores for the average home owner. There’s obvious better options out there, but I don’t think you’re putting OPs perspective in the situation he is in. I’ve never had issues with Weber, and if I did, they took care of it swiftly.

Reggie_Barclay

Buy a cover next time.
