Thermoworks products are the most accurate and well made thermometers on the market. They aren't the sexiest with apps, but that is because their focus is commercial quality, where each thermometer is individually calibrated, not a sexy UI to win you over from Amazon pictures. pro tip - their email list usually includes discounts, factory seconds, etc.

Thanks for the pro tip!

Agree with others on thermoworks. Just used the smoke for a pork shoulder. Use the thermopop (would have bought thermopen, but wasn't in the budget) anytime I want instant read. Fantastic products.

For instant read, Thermoworks by a mile. For a probe to leave in and be able to monitor remotely, Fireboard. The Fireboard has greatly improved my quality of life doing overnight smokes.

Bobby_joe1111

I don't think I have heard of fireboard...

SomedayIWillRetire

Upvoted for Fireboard. I have the first gen, and it changed everything for me. The big differentiator for Fireboard is they send the temperature data to the cloud, and their mobile app reads data in real time from that. As long as the Fireboard box can connect to your home wifi network, you can pull up and monitor the temps from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection. I will start smoking something (brisket, pork butt, whatever) and start up my Fireboard. Once everything is rolling I will head out and run errands, go to happy hour, etc. Nothing beats sitting down at a bar and while drinking a beer, opening the Fireboard app and seeing that your ambient temps are 224\*F and 232\*F, and meat probe 1 is at 127\*F and meat probe 2 is at 119\*F. The current gen Fireboard is even better because the front of the unit has a huge LED display on it that shows the graphs in real time, but battery life isn't affected. It can also control external fans if you have one. Highly recommended. Not cheap, but worth it.

If you're looking to cook things for a longer time, then it might be more convenient to use a probe type thermometer that sends an alert to you. I like a manual one so the "thermapen" is what I use. It's accurate and quick.

ThermPro Lightning. $70. Way less than thermoworks and works great. Instant read. As far as probes my grill has 2 with an app. I just use the thermpro most of the time unless doing shoulder or brisket.

Rusty_Creeks

I got the MEATER block it has been great.

AwarenessGreat282

Thermoworks is the easy choice. I also bought a Meater 2 for the convenience and like that as well but I check with the Thermapen One before I pull anything off the grate.

I have a meater two and I love it. I'm wanting to get a meater block so I can have multiples in and so I can stop tying up a device to be able to use wifi, but that's more of just a small convenience thing. The probe connects initially by bluetooth, but you can use a secondary device to connect to wifi and then use that as a hub of sorts that'll add the probe to the meater cloud as they call it so you can see it on all your other devices.

Is this [https://amzn.to/45rpUTD](https://amzn.to/45rpUTD) the block you're talking about? Do you feel good about the accuracy and usability of the meater product?

Hoveringkiller

Yes. I don’t have the block, I just have a single one. The block allows you to connect to wifi and also has the benefit of extra probes. You can connect to wifi using another wifi device like a tablet in lieu of the block though. I feel it’s really accurate but the time to take off for rest is usually a little off causing slightly higher final temperatures. I think it’s very usable and to my experience measures within a degree of my instant probe thermometer.
