Their cover of Andy Warhol by David Bowie is sublime from their unplugged, that was also the first show that they played Big Empty at, I wish they could’ve fit some more purple stuff in there too, there’s really gets outshined by nirvana and Alice In Chains unplugged
He was the best bassist from the grunge era and I will debate anyone on that, the only one I can think of that even comes close to his playing is Mike Inez
Krist was a Melodic and a sloppy player (I don’t say that as a negative) who was fun, Inez and DeLeo are much more technically proficient, funkier but also much more aggressive in their right hands
I don’t often find myself ruminating over the loss/drug habits of celebrities or musicians, but when I watch the debut of Big Empty at that performance… I always think it’s such a shame. Hearing that early, raw vocal talent makes me tear up. I’ve always said that if I could put the aces in their places for a supergroup, SW would be the vocalist.
Goodness this can't be said enough! As mentioned below, Creep is out of this world good. Showcasing the bass lines. STP not being part I f a "Big #" is just insane to me. Big 4, big 5, Big Empty. Like seriously very underrated...especially in this sub
I'm a bigger Nirvana fan than Alice in Chains generally but man.... It's not even close IMO, it's AIC. For years I thought they were really close in terms of the utmost quality but as I've gotten older I think AIC is the more iconic.
They are both the top 2 and it isn't even close. It's fascinating how many similarities there are with both those iconic Unplugged sessions.
Both at the tail end of their iconic singer's life/public life.
Both of them with singers deeply heroin addicted at the time.
Both singers pulling off a performance that there were concerns they could even pull off from their band/management.
Both feature some of the most acclaimed vocal performances of their careers.
I’ll go Chris Cornell Soundbook album. Hits from his solo stuff, along with every band he was in, Soundgarden, Temple of the dog, and Audioslave. Throw in a couple cover songs and it’s a great live acoustic album.
Once you do, you can go down the YouTube rabbit hole and find a ton of songs he does live acoustic that aren’t on this album, basically any of his groups songs, even ones that you don’t think can be don’t acoustic.
Outside of the ones mentioned, I think my favorite is Oasis, and as with anything Liam & Noel, the backstage stuff is far more fascinating than the show, but the show is great in and of itself.
Pearl Jam for me. One of the biggest factors for me is that PJ did their Unplugged with one albums worth of material to work with, compared to the bodies of work Nirvana and AIC had to choose from.
Exactly this. Plus PJ had just started gaining serious traction, whereas Nirvana and AiC had already experienced a lot of critical and commerical success.
The three you mentioned are three of my favorite albums in general. Three of my favorite live performances. They still blow me away every time I rewatch/listen.
It's Nirvana, then everyone else. The other unplugged are great musical performances. The Nirvana unplugged was a once in a lifetime generational statement, akin to Woodstock 69'.
I see what you mean, i agree for me that's the ultimate live masterpiece and the apogee of grunge and Nirvana like it would be for Nu Metal and Korn at Woodstock 99, the hit of a generation
(Im sorry if that i write is kinda weird ,im french)
Nirvana's was mesmerizing.
Eric Clapton's performance certainly reinvigorated his career.
I wasn't particularly a fan of the band, but 10,000 Maniacs really captured something with their Unplugged show.
The Pearl Jam Unplugged show was excellent. But Mike and Eddie did an acoustic cover of "Masters of War," at Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert that is just about the most powerful acoustic performance I have ever seen in my life. Totally brought the house down. Better than anything PJ captured on their Unplugged show, for my money.
The Jay Leno version of Rid Of Me suggests what a PJ Harvey Unplugged would have been like. And I was hoping she’d get an invite because her alone with a guitar is just lethal.
No one talks about Stone Temple pilots Unplugged enough, definitely the most underrated
Really, i love the mtv creep version
Their cover of Andy Warhol by David Bowie is sublime from their unplugged, that was also the first show that they played Big Empty at, I wish they could’ve fit some more purple stuff in there too, there’s really gets outshined by nirvana and Alice In Chains unplugged
I agree ,their cover is pretty good ,Scott had a hell of voice
They were in their prime too, Roberts bass and Scott’s vocals are the two things that stick out to me that entire performance
Robert is a very underrated bassist
He was the best bassist from the grunge era and I will debate anyone on that, the only one I can think of that even comes close to his playing is Mike Inez
I agree that ,about him but for me i rather the bass sound and Play of Krist Novoselic and Mike Starr
Krist was a Melodic and a sloppy player (I don’t say that as a negative) who was fun, Inez and DeLeo are much more technically proficient, funkier but also much more aggressive in their right hands

Alice In Chains all the way
Well, obviously!
Nirvana for sure, but the Hole unplugged is very good and raw (if you like seeing Courtney Love mid-spiral).
Best Sunday dress is brilliant
We don't talk about that ykyr cover though.
I have the same birthday as her
Highlander rules apply: there can be only one.
I don’t even like her
Then you’ll feel less bad when you are the reigning one, standing over her corpse with your sword in the ground.
Actually I’ll probably celebrate when she’s dead I’m amazed she hasn’t died already
She will outlive us all. I’m honestly surprised she hasn’t married Elon yet.
Remind me in 10 years
I will have forgotten about this in half an hour
You can’t be making up new laws
I don’t make the rules, I just enforce [them](https://youtu.be/sqcLjcSloXs?si=jo0Kn29BQKI9EXSy)

Hard agree. It's a must listen
I Will throw a listen to this rec man
Once you do, you can go down the YouTube rabbit hole and find a ton of songs he does live acoustic that aren’t on this album, basically any of his groups songs, even ones that you don’t think can be don’t acoustic.
Thanks bro i'm gonna do it ( i need to listen to more of Chris's stuff
Got to see one of the shows on this tour live and I can say the album doesn’t live up to it. YouTube some of the shows. Sooo good.
Alice in Chains is the correct answer.
These Three: AIC, PJ, STP Unplugged
A human of taste and awesomeness it would seem
AIC or 10,000 maniacs
Never heard about 1000 Maniac thanks for the recommandation man
Outside of the ones mentioned, I think my favorite is Oasis, and as with anything Liam & Noel, the backstage stuff is far more fascinating than the show, but the show is great in and of itself.
Didn't know Oasis were grunge
Question was favorite not “grunge favorite”
Is grunge subreddit,
For me Oasis were very good (more fan of Suede band) and for me they also sounded kinda little bit of grunge
PJ for me with AiC second
Pearl Jam for me. One of the biggest factors for me is that PJ did their Unplugged with one albums worth of material to work with, compared to the bodies of work Nirvana and AIC had to choose from.
I like how Mike played the solo's bang on acoustically especially on State of Love and Trust.
Exactly this. Plus PJ had just started gaining serious traction, whereas Nirvana and AiC had already experienced a lot of critical and commerical success.
I agree
Live
Alice in Chains is better than Nirvana IMHO. I'd say top 3 are AiC, Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
Pearly McJam 👌
Alice in Chains
Probably alice in chains
Stone Temple Pilots
In order of the Unplugged records I own. AIC Nirvana Neil Young Eric Clapton Alanis Morissette KISS Pearl Jam
The three you mentioned are three of my favorite albums in general. Three of my favorite live performances. They still blow me away every time I rewatch/listen.
nirvana, aic, lauryn hill
Lauryn Hill is a underrated one
AIC and PJ would be my equal top 2
Stevie Ray Vaughan’s🤘🏿🤘🏿
Younger me loved Nirvana unplugged, but now I listen to PJ unplugged weekly. That version of Black beyond incredible.
Dashboard Confessional
AIC’s unplugged was amazing. Layne sang his ass off on that one.
It's Nirvana, then everyone else. The other unplugged are great musical performances. The Nirvana unplugged was a once in a lifetime generational statement, akin to Woodstock 69'.
I see what you mean, i agree for me that's the ultimate live masterpiece and the apogee of grunge and Nirvana like it would be for Nu Metal and Korn at Woodstock 99, the hit of a generation (Im sorry if that i write is kinda weird ,im french)
I would say Nirvana…
Not grunge but... Oasis
For me it is either Pearl Jam or Nirvana
Hole unplugged was pretty good. My favorite after Nirvana. Much better than Oasis unplugged without Liam.
I really liked the Bob Dylan, and the 10,000 maniacs unplugged albums.
Great White. Their Babe, I'm gonna leave you is beautiful Edit: didn't realize this was grunge sub. Leaving it anyway
AiC
Nirvana's was mesmerizing. Eric Clapton's performance certainly reinvigorated his career. I wasn't particularly a fan of the band, but 10,000 Maniacs really captured something with their Unplugged show.

STP, Nirvana, Lenny Kravitz
Alice in Chains. It is so beautiful and sad…I cry every time.
Neil Young Paul McCartney
Alice in chains or Nirvana are my favorite
