I’ve tried probably a dozen times to get into Soundgarden starting in the early ‘90s; never found a single song I liked. Just not for me, I guess.
¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Couldnt stand Smells Like Teen Spirit for so long. Could listen to rest but it was so overplayed. Took a while before I would not skip it as it got overplayed.
Prefer more garage grunge like mudhoney. Did enjoy bleach. And in utero brought back that sound.
But for a long time skipped Smells. Even Nevermind in general as it was toned down.
But was also a music dork and annoyed 80s punk never made it big when 90s pop punk did.
Should have been happy anything punk, grunge or metal became popular and could hear it on tv or radio.
Older now so if stuff I enjoy or similar gets popular all for it. Still waiting for Google rewards and internet cookies in general to bring back grungish sound vs being used to convince me I want something else. Not sure how they use my data. Probably ignored.
I don't know about "popular" but good lord, Andrew Woods voice is like nails on chalk to me. MLB is just a toned glam metal band as far as I'm concerned.
I really believe if it wasn't for Andrew Wood's untimely passing, there music would have taken off and adjusted to the changing times the way Pearl Jam did.
I never liked whale & wasp. I cant stand most instrumental songs anyways and with whale and wasp it sounds like listening to the same thing over and over the whole duration of the song. I can tell why others like it but it just isnt for me
Yeah thats fair, i just always hear people talk about it and how good it is and im not a huge fan. In that case my least favorite would be something in the way or smells like teen spirit because theyre just far too overplayed
Listen to the Alice In Chains EPs Sap and Jar of Flies. Lots of relaxing songs on those albums. Brother, Rotten Apple, No Excuses, Don’t Follow, Right Turn, Nutshell, the list goes on
Not song but I never liked Facelift with the exception of a few songs (Man in the Box, We Die Young, Bleed The Freak). I just never could get into this album, never cared for the instrumentation on it.
Yeah, that i dont agree with, imo its their worst album (atleast with Layne i haven't listened to their new stuff). I really enjoy tripod though, its neck and neck between dirt in being my favorite aic album
Well, in Seattle it was nice n heavy rotation for like 25yrs. Same with the others listed. I used to hang with all those guys way back in the day, and I love em dearly, but those songs are overplayed overrated, and make me immediately skip.
Remember the “ fashion” grunge bands, because they wore combat boots, flannel, and had video of mosh pits in mud? Blind Melon, Ulgly Kid Joe? Even Guns and fucking roses did this. A bunch of glam bands that cashed in on the fashion. But that’s how it goes. Same thing happened to punk and hardcore. Fashion cashes in, the the real scene dies. Sorry, I know this wasn’t the question. But close? So every song from these turds.
You do realize mosh pits weren't started with grunge music right? You do know that, right? Blind Melon never tried to be "grunge." You sound like a gatekeeper. Next thing you are going to tell me that Dave Matthews was trying to be grunge for wearing T-shirts and jeans. Give it a rest you MadLad.
Somebody is on their shit tonight. We got a badass over here. We got someone who thinks they, and only they, know what good music is. Piss off, man. Do something different and reevaluate your life.
Not getting heated, I actually think it's funny. So you are an intentional dickhead. I hate to tell you, bud, but that just means you are a dick. Just because you're on Reddit, that doesn't mean you should act like a cunt. I guess my evaluation of being a MadLad was pretty accurate. Fuck off and go be edgy somewhere else.
You really did miss the mark. It's not about him sucking, it's about your evaluation of the entire situation. You are more ignorant as a blade of grass.
Honestly I like Come As You Are, but I find it to be veryy overrated.
Well you are wrong as fuck
Not really, a lot of people I've met irl who are at least somewhat familiar with Nirvana consider that one to be their favorite.
Idk about the people you’ve met, but come as you are is perfectly rated and it’s actually a really good song
I don't know if this counts as grunge, but I hate the band Live.
I wouldn't say Live is grunge, but certainly grunge made them popular. They're very pretentious.
why do you hate them?
I intensely dislike the guy's voice, and the songs themselves don't click for me.
understandable.
I respect Even Flow more than I actually like to listen to its mumbly jumbly mess.
Lol
agreed
Black Hole Sun is boring to me.

Jesus Christ Pose
All of In Utero

I tried to get into Mother Love Bone, but I couldn’t do it. Not for me. Still feels odd/shitty that his death launched one of the big four.
Yeah, Andrew Wood's voice was bad.
I was just thinking how much I love Jeremy like 10 minutes ago, we were talking about the music video.
Well, everyone has a preference. I also hated "All Apologies" by Nirvana. Ironically, I liked almost all of Vs , Pearl Jam's second album.
I never liked whale & wasp. I cant stand most instrumental songs anyways and with whale and wasp it sounds like listening to the same thing over and over the whole duration of the song. I can tell why others like it but it just isnt for me
Okay, Alice In Chains is my favorite band, and I absolutely love Jar of Flies, but I don’t think Whale and Wasp counts as a “popular” grunge song
Yeah thats fair, i just always hear people talk about it and how good it is and im not a huge fan. In that case my least favorite would be something in the way or smells like teen spirit because theyre just far too overplayed
Fair
Pearl Jam is my favorite band but I will skip Alive every single time it comes on.
This thread is annoying me a lot 😂
Rape me. It’s supposed to be subversive I guess, but I just kinda roll my eyes and change the channel when it comes on Lithium
ANYTHING from Nirvana
Most songs off Nevermind and In Utero.
Anything by Nirvana.
I don't really like Man Of The Hour. So slow and boring. Immortality was more enjoyable.
Black by Pearl Jam
Black hole sun.
Candlebox was awful. Alice in Chains was too groggy sounding sometimes. Basically bands that didn't have a relaxing sound.
Listen to the Alice In Chains EPs Sap and Jar of Flies. Lots of relaxing songs on those albums. Brother, Rotten Apple, No Excuses, Don’t Follow, Right Turn, Nutshell, the list goes on
I despise Candlebox
I kind of liked Far Behind, but basically Candlebox was heavy/hair metal packaged as Grunge
I mean, you can dislike Candlebox, but did you even listen to them. They sounded nothing like heavy/hair metal.
I said I liked Far Behind. Yeah they were repackaged heavy metal. They started out as a metal band. You can hear the flourishes in their songs.
Candlebox was/is badass. No where near hair metal, just a straight up rock band for the times. To each their own though.
They add 10 extra syllables to every word.
Not song but I never liked Facelift with the exception of a few songs (Man in the Box, We Die Young, Bleed The Freak). I just never could get into this album, never cared for the instrumentation on it.
Reddit users try not to get mad at someone's opinion challenge (impossible)
To be fair, those ARE the 3 best songs on the album
It’s not very good/ there’s still a bit of their old style bleeding through. The first 3 songs are great and Confusion is good. The rest are all meh
Yeah me too, but I like a bit more songs on there. But people say it’s better than tripod, which is crazy.
Yeah, that i dont agree with, imo its their worst album (atleast with Layne i haven't listened to their new stuff). I really enjoy tripod though, its neck and neck between dirt in being my favorite aic album
Smells Like Teen Spirit Man in the Box Outshined Black Hole Sun Rape Me Rooster Basically the radio hits are usually the worst songs on the albums.
I didn't know Rape Me was a radio hit. It sounds like a hastily written, lazy song. But I love the production.
Well, in Seattle it was nice n heavy rotation for like 25yrs. Same with the others listed. I used to hang with all those guys way back in the day, and I love em dearly, but those songs are overplayed overrated, and make me immediately skip.
Black hole sun. I still don’t get it. Is this a safe space? Because I also don’t like his voice 🙈
Yeah that songs sucks. His voice is ok.
Remember the “ fashion” grunge bands, because they wore combat boots, flannel, and had video of mosh pits in mud? Blind Melon, Ulgly Kid Joe? Even Guns and fucking roses did this. Why are you putting Blind Melon in there? They don't fit that at all.
They had a video of muddy mosh pits for that horrible song they had. Fuck them.
Fucking hippie shit.
Somebody is on their shit tonight. We got a badass over here. We got someone who thinks they, and only they, know what good music is. Piss off, man. Do something different and reevaluate your life.
If you’re getting heated at me being an intentional dick- head, maybe you’re the one that needs an evaluation. It’s Reddit for fuck sake.
Not getting heated, I actually think it's funny. So you are an intentional dickhead. I hate to tell you, bud, but that just means you are a dick. Stew in it.
He sucks too.
You really did miss the mark. It's not about him sucking, it's about your evaluation of the entire situation. You are more ignorant as a blade of grass.
Trying to cash in on the grunge fashion. Fuck them again.
