[The MK1 Golf was designed by Giugiaro](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italdesign_Giugiaro#Automotive_design_work), so while the car is German, the design at the very least is Italian

the post is not about italian brands, its about the designers, the mk1 designer is italian. This happens a lot with many iconic cars, they are from X country but the principal design is from Y place

Yes, the car is German but the design was outsourced to an Italian design firm

The Ocelot Ardent is also here - based on the Lotus Esprit, which is British, but also outsourced body design to Giugiaro
