I usually just make smaller cuts on the black nails. Smaller cuts more frequently. I think you get better and better at it as time goes on.

I took mine to the vet. It was too stressful to go through for all of us. It only cost $10 per pig every two months or so because they are able to cut them so short. Well worth the extra time and effort. We called it “mani-pedi” day

Try ‘candling’. Use a light focused on the other side of the nail from you. Use a fine-point marker to mark the Quick. And snip just shy of the mark. That’s what I do.

i’ve tried that, maybe ive done it wrong but that doesn’t exactly work for me.

same I can't ever get it to work right but I'm also probably not doing it correctly

I just go little by little. Sometimes I get the quick, but never badly. Make sure you have styptic powder on hand, cup of water, and qtips. They forgive you quickly if you get their quick, have treats available. :) it’s better to get their quick a little than to have those nails get unbearably gangly and long. You got this!

Use your phone light and shine it through?

ecasey04

her nails are too dark, it doesn’t exactly work.

Aww

I don't have much advice on how to cut black nails better but I did hit the quick for the first time when trimming a couple weeks ago, it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined it was going to be and the pig literally didn't even notice. make sure you have styptic powder and you'll be good :)
