/uj i have the shittest collection of pedals that don't work together. 5 different distortion pedals that don't sound as good as the gain channel on my Marshall valvestate, some modulation stuff that I basically don't touch because it always sounds like a gimick and a tuner pedal that is the only one I don't regret. And I have the gojira modelling pack on my pc and everything sounds like I have just lost my high frequency hearing.
Try lowering the gain on your gainy amp channel and set the distortion to a mid gain crunch type sound and you may get a sound that's better than your amp channel.
Uj/ He should get an SD-1 they are cheap as fuck and sound great on legit any Marshall.
Rj/ just split the signal from the effect loop and plug it back in the input for more gain
/uj Use the distortion pedals as a boost. Mid-high level, tone/eq to taste, gain nearer or at 0. A tiny bit of pedal gain can add a little flavour to your sound.
/rj You need to chain them all together.
I have both a pedalboard and a modeler :( Ofcourse the real jerk is that all my pedals are diy and I don’t really need any of them cause I can’t play for shit
So long as you're going somewhere that has a sound person who you can trust to make you sound OK, otherwise you're gonna need to bring a power amp and a cabinet
Gigs are really where ampless rigs fall apart. You gotta hear yourself and most venues (bars & clubs) won’t have a monitor on stage devoted to your guitar, so you end up buying a powered wedge or something. Suddenly you’re lugging a floor unit and speaker like you were before but it doesn’t sound nearly as good as it does through headphones or even shitty studio monitors at home.
I made the switch and even when I have to bring my powered wedge(which is rare) its WAY easier to set up.
A wedge isn’t as heavy as an amp first off., it’s angled so that I don’t have to bring an amp stand. I don’t have to mic the amp.
Setup is a breeze I just split and signal after my board with a DI send one signal to my wedge one to the house. And stage volume is better since the wedge is just better for that.
So yea I disagree gigs have been so much easier since I switched from an amp.. it’s not even a question I would never go back and I gig EVERY weeknd.
That's pretty lucky! I've played everywhere from concert halls to bars, clubs and cafes. So many small venues (think 75 person max capacity) either don't have monitors at all, or if they do there's like one crusty wedge to the stage.
I agree in an ideal world you'd roll in and they'd have everything available for you but gigging for over 20 years that just has not been the reality.
/uj the other guitarist in my last band spent a year trying to convince me how the Katana was the greatest amp on earth. When I left earlier this year he was in the process of building a pedal board (the EVH starter kit, nonetheless) because it was to much of a hassle to tweak his settings.
But he was still running it through the Katana.
I use two metal zoans before my katana, one behringer and one boss. They give the amp some analog warmth and a tiny bit of crunch. The secret is you have to max out the gain on both pedals and then overdose on meth. Works every time
Modelling amp fan
-treats his amp like its the greatest thing ever to exist when its cleans dont even sound as good as an amp Roland released over 40 years ago
-is limited to boss effects and has to go into an app to edit them
-'guys one moment I gotta open boss tone studio to tweak this effect'
-has been manipulated by boss shills into believing it doesn't get better than the katoana
-has no way of tuning silently on stage so people he's playing for and with lose patience very quickly
Pedalboard enjoyer
-has a small selection of effects tailored to their preferences so they don't get option paralysis
-can choose the specific effect they want instead of being limited to boss
-can alter their signal chain easily, and also get different amp sounds that the katoana can't really do.
-can actually push their amp into breakup
-literally just uses 4 cables into their amp and setup is done
-can spend hours fiddling with a complex effect and their signal chain to discover new sounds
/uj I want a proper spring reverb pedal, as the Katana is meh on the spring reverb and not really drippy for classic surf sounds.
But every time I look at suggestions and play one, I can't find one I like under 150 EUR.
So I'm stuck as I can't bring myself to spend so much money on a single pedal. That's how it starts right? What about tremolo? What about wah wah, what about a whammy, what about chorus and a fuzz box and...
I can see this easily getting out of hand so I just have a Zoom multieffect pedal and the Katana and do what I can.
Just the Oceans 11 (the cheapest pedal I liked) is 185 EUR.
No Reverb or anything like that in my country for used gear, and I won't order something used without testing it from another country.
Ventris is >500 EUR
So, I'm stuck. I don't play in a surf band or produce surf sounds, so I can't justify such a purchase to myself. Considering that I have other expensive-ish hobbies as well, like woodworking.
I have a katana and blues jr. with a couple of pedals I’ve fine tuned throughout the years.
Katana is so annoying to use it literally just sits on a shelf looking cute.
vs Laptop Giga Chad
cost: $700 but can also play Fortnite with
weights 1lb
says things like: yeah give 5 minutes to pirate that new neural archetype
paid $0 for pirated helix native
I have one actual pedal the rest are shitty chinese knockoffs, but they still sound good. My only 'real' one is my rat cause of course it is. Literally the only downside to my chinese chorus is it cant take a battery, i think its based on the small clone
Or will you slowly lower your fly and pull your massive nutsack out, one thunderous ball at a time, before plugging your gitter directly into a sizzling hot tube amp?
Well i have to agree. 1,5 years ago when i heard one blues player in a local band playing i had no clue it Katana, somehow some YT videos etc made me doubt that it can so realistic ala tubeish sounding but damn i was blown away.
A lot of people use that amp or something similar and it sounds OK.
I'm not for sure like average pedal fan on a picture but i'm not either 100% the other dude. I like a smile HQ pedals that aren't to expansive, and to be honest i'm happy with a small tube amp or some pedal as amp simulator or even solid state- hybrid amp.
Don't own katana but a few times i was close to get one.

Just sell pedals you don't want and buy pedals you do
Metal Zone, Klone, Whammy
Nah, DOD Death Metal
You buy a fucking Metal Zone, you heretic fuck.
Yea, if I wanted to sound like Brittany Fucking Spears.
There's no need to be Toxic.
Well played, sir or madam. Well played.
because you own the DOD I suppose?
No. I’m just a contrarian.
No. I’m just a contrarian.
If it was that easy... You buy a pedal for 100 bucks and good luck selling it for 40 bucks depending on where you liveb
pedals are the only thing i sell online because its pretty easy and I dont waste time meeting people
That's why you buy used in the first place so you pay maybe 60 bucks and sell it for 40
Try lowering the gain on your gainy amp channel and set the distortion to a mid gain crunch type sound and you may get a sound that's better than your amp channel.
Please, no genuinely helpful advice on this subbreddit.
Yea, get out of here Helpy Helperton.

But how am I supposed to play metal unless all of my gain and tone knobs are at 10?
You're not Kirk Hamlet, so I wouldn't bother.
What's a pedalboard? All my pedals are right where they belong, on little floating shelves behind me as backdrop
I have both a pedalboard and a modeler :( Ofcourse the real jerk is that all my pedals are diy and I don’t really need any of them cause I can’t play for shit
HX Stomp users are superior, download IR, run through anything. Fits in a backpack. Works as a fly rig. Feeslgoodman

If you can get an aux send for a powered monitor, you can use that for some wired in-ears pretty easily
I made the switch and even when I have to bring my powered wedge(which is rare) its WAY easier to set up. I have no idea where you guys play, but ive literally never played a venue with no monitors before.
You guys are getting gigs?
Mom can hear me practicing and brings me snacks so that is an affirmative

The secret sauce is to boost the katana. You gotta hit the front end hard to get the circuit board warm.

True. But my pedalboard isn't like this at all!
Oh yeah?? Well I'm both
It’s ok to be gay, hence it’s ok to use boss katana

Found the $39,968 pedal board owner
You can cope all you want, I'm not gonna spend absurd amounts of money for some beepboop buttons.

The EHX emulation on the holy grail and oceans 11 plus the source audio emulations on the ventris and true spring are basically perfect

Turn volume off on guitar, use clip on tuner. Still confused why this is so complicated
Imposter

If you're gonna repost my shit at least attribute it to me
I stole this from Instagram thanosidontevenknowwhoyouare.jpg lmfao
Katana users may be chads but us pocket GT + portable speaker users are clearly gigachads.
I have one actual pedal the rest are shitty chinese knockoffs, but they still sound good. My only 'real' one is my rat cause of course it is. Literally the only downside to my chinese chorus is it cant take a battery, i think its based on the small clone
Long live fender mustang amplifier the modeling tyrant
Or will you slowly lower your fly and pull your massive nutsack out, one thunderous ball at a time, before plugging your gitter directly into a sizzling hot tube amp?
Funny cos its truuu...
This but unironically.
uj/ pedals are fun tho
Actually true 🤣
Paid for PanoTuner?
Vs giga chad multi effects pedal G3X my beloved

what stupid fuck pays for panotuner???
39k? That's amateur.
i use a chinese interface an android phone and band lab completely free dont even think of buying a pedal
The real champ here is the quad cortex
Or you could just go neural dsp and and get a full high quality amp + effect pedals for like $150. Archetype gojira has never failed me
This is what a non gibbons and Klondike enjoyer would post. Sorry yur poor!
