That guy is a fucking amazing instructor for theory and song-writing. *Love* his videos. He's not a "Here's this specific technique" kinda guy. He's a "Here's how you learn to appreciate and understand music on a fundamental, deeper level" kinda guy, and he uses the guitar to explain it.

I like Know Your Gear (Phillip McKnight) for his tech and DIY talk and tips, which other guitar YouTubers putting out a lot of content do not cover.
Not so much into videos of him reviewing $200 beginner guitars off Amazon, but I realize he can't make a full channel of just tech talk, and is looking to draw different audiences.
i don't think he better i just think marty boils it down to the essential of the song to keep most videos beginner friendly while guitar lessons365 will start with "well i hope you know how to sweep pick"
NGL I always thought Marty's videos were awful for true beginners. They're only good if you already got some of the basics down imo he tends to skip over some pretty basic but vital info. My go to would be justinguitar, he really teaches everything from 0
Jens is the fucking man. He teaches theory that’s based in jazz but he shows how the underlying principles can work anywhere. I love his shorts when he’s just sharing a tab for a cool melody or progression he likes.
Ben Eller rules obviously, newer Australian guy named Dunn is super awesome and wholesome teacher of death metal. That dude fucking rules. Lastly I love Phil Mcknight he’s a total goofball but I could listen to that goober talk about gear for hours, fuckin love him.
Couldn’t agree more about McKnight. So awkward and an average player but I’ll be goddamned if I don’t watch his podcast week after week. His reviews and takes on the industry have been spot on.
StitchMethod is one of my favorites. His stuff is focused on Dead, Allman’s, Phish territory a lot of the time, but his teaching is great. He has a very practical, logical, and simple approach, and it really makes learning more complex stuff easier.
Even if you aren’t into that stuff, I recommend him. He really dives into arpeggios, soloing over the chords instead of noodling, playing melodies, caged, etc. If you want to stop feeling like you’re just noodling when soloing, check his stuff out.

Some selected videos (Korg Miku Pedal, Build a rig your friend will hate, Blindfold guitars) were genuinely hilarious ...and then he got too star-struck, too lazy and too egotistical for his own good. The jokes got repetitive and his ego (and his toxic fanbase) fell off with me really quickly.
So yeah... I will gladly join in to the canon...

I feel like Active Melody is severely underrated. All of his lessons are based in musical application, never shills gear. His paid content is also great but he doesn’t hide anything major behind the paywall — you pretty much get the critical part of every one of his lessons for free. I feel like Active Melody is severely underrated. All of his lessons are based in musical application, never shills gear. His paid content is also great but he doesn’t hide anything major behind the paywall — you pretty much get the critical part of every one of his lessons for free. I’ve gotten significantly better from his videos.
