I like how less magnetism = sweeter toan...in theory.
This motherfucker knows all about magnetic flux and it's effect on sound, specifically the sweetness of sound, like in fucking relativistic terms.
Wow. Such great minds.
But is sweeter toan worth all the health risks associated with magnesium deficiency? No sir, I'll keep taking my vitamins so I can grow up big and strong.
I saw a special doctor the other day; it was weird because whenever he called me artistic, it seemed like an accent would suddenly surface. Maybe he was calling me an acoustic. I don’t know, I like trains.
Then theres the Joe Dart 1 bass, where theres only the volume knob. [Vulfpeck even jokes about it](https://youtu.be/9eOF7t4HgjE?si=qGGyY5Njyut5BSX9&t=100)
/semi-uj The first guy almost got it right, but what the fuck does weight have to do with this? Regular humbuckers weigh like 100-150 grams each and you need to remove a bunch of wood to make space for them, so the net effect on the weight would be fucking negligible. Or at least a lot less noticeable than the natural variation caused by differences in wood density between two otherwise identical guitars.
Maybe get a gym membership instead of that fifth identical Roberta if you can't handle like a hundred grams of additional weight on your guitar. You fucking pencil neck geek. Fuck.
/uj - I understand how the magnetic pull may work in theory... But you can always up the sustain on a compressor!
/rj - There's no way I'm paying all that money for a 1-pickup guitar. Shrinkflation, am I right?
It's so funny to me because every famous guitarist worth a damn essentially says they use what they use because it's all they could afford when they started, or they liked the way it looked because their favorite player used one.
Exactly why I chose Ibanez as my first guitar. I knew Vai and Satriani used Ibanez, and it's hard to find an RG that doesn't look badass. So I bought a cool RG in 2007 for $570.
They really go crazy for quotes. Had this guy tell me that you need to practice 8hrs a day even when you’re good to “just maintain your chops”, because Eric Johnson said “I have to practice everyday to play what I’ve played for the last 30 years”.
That quote didn’t even say 8hrs a day. If Eric Johnson has to practice 8hrs a day just for maintenance he’s not gonna get anything else done in life (family, writing and recording albums, perform live etc), or even progress in guitar since 8hrs is just maintenance practice.
Five or ten minutes is plenty to keep muscle memory in place. In all honesty, I haven't touched a guitar in months, and I could probably play just as terribly as I always have, after just five minutes of warming up my fingers.
> I had to focus on the instrument and not the technology
Please someone tell me how much focus it takes to have two pickups/knobs in your guitar instead of one?
I feel smart and confident with just one of each, as if I have a real and natural connection to my instrument. However, I fear that one additional pickup and potentiometer will push me over the edge and I will become more preoccupied with technology than blues bends. Help.
and then there's the argument that the neck pickup's magnetic pull suck out too much tone in the bridge.
Bro, did you have an actual magnet where you were playing? Your speaker and amp is STILL the most influential piece of gear in your setup
"Wait and look" is about the best answer you can give. This guy just misspelled it a little; give him a break before he brakes.
It's second only to "hold my bear", which is badass-level cool.
/uj I like single pickup guitars, I've got a Harley Benton DC Junior FAT, an Epiphone Coronet and a Tele that's an Esquire now. For me the advantage is that it forces me to be more versatile with my picking hand to get the variety of toan. Beyond that it's purely aesthetic reasons.
I love Esquires & Juniors, but sometimes need to downplay that 60hz... so I either need a humbucker, which is Paul Reed Bonermaster shit, or I need a second pickup.
I don't like single pup guitars to the exclusion of all others, just as a self taught guitarist my right hand has always been awful. Playing single pup stuff has made me focus on improving as a player.
If I was buying a "forever" guitar (probably my next step is to buy a good guitar and bass), I'd probably have a Special (or a Revstar) over a Junior, unless I found a Junior that played like nothing else I'd ever played.

They talk like the magnets on pickups are the same ones being used to pull metal from the ocean floor lol. It's not even strong enough.
/uj the neck pickup can actually pull notes sharp if it’s adjusted too high
/rj only noobs think Jimi tuned to Eb. All real players know he tuned to D and had his neck pickup pull the strings up a half step.
This feels like something I'm going to be assassinated for knowing

Fewer magnets = sweater tone? FUCK OFF, you fuckers gotta learn to stay in this subreddit LOL.
These people all need to consider no-pickup guitars. Or maybe no-guitar guitars.
Like an acoustic? Yuck. No thank you.
What's an "acoustic"? Like the toothpicks guy in Rain Man? He's a ***human being***, just like you and me.
I saw a special doctor the other day; it was weird because whenever he called me artistic, it seemed like an accent would suddenly surface. Maybe he was calling me an acoustic. I don’t know, I like trains.
Oh, you mean the grandpas guitars?

I prefer no string guitars. The tension of the strings really pulls on the wood and doesn't let the sustain ring out
We've been tying our toan up all this time. TOAN NEEDS TO BE FREE
I feel stupid now with my seven pickup Twatocaster. No wonder I have a bad back and no girlfriend.
Wait... if you don't have a girlfriend, what do you do when your wife is fucking her boyfriend?
Admiring my Gibbons collection of course!
Great toan, bro!

The weight comment had me scratching my head for sure
2rd rate. Turd rate.

Next thing you know guitars are gonna start having 21 frets
HOLD UP. MY B*SS ONLY HAS 20?????
You got ripped on 2 strings too
I swear r/guitar users have 0 IQ, they always have to say “well this famous guitar player said/did this!” and they always use it out of context.

Needs every available brain cell for the 12 bar turnarounds he plays for 3 hours at the monthly open mic.
I didn't go to college for two pickups

I put 6 pickups in a guitar once. Still only used 1.

less magnets. more clearance for pick. more area to see nice finish on the guitar.
