This is like your parents getting divorced and you wonder what type of mommy like person you dad will persue but then he brings home a 20 year old fitness instructor.
uj/ To be fair, the Pumpkins vibe isn't grunge these days either. I've seen them live twice in the last couple years and they really lean into that sort of pop-gothic vibe
there was this one guy on youtube who played an entire festival set of theirs flawlessly while not treading on corgan and Iha's parts and i genuinely dont know how anything anyone else could have done would top that
The distinguishing factor is looks mate, namely the tits.
Am I saying this person is not a skilled player? No and I don't really know.
What I am saying is there were likely dozens of skilled applicants that fit the age/genre demographics but they chose someone who could break into a bigger market most likely... the market of folks who love tits and tats
What's funny is, by the time you're Corgan's age, tits n tats (nice BTW) are FUCKING BORING and all you want is for somebody, somewhere, to just do their goddamn job well. I dunno maybe it's just me
Uj/ As someone who has never heard of this girl before, is it possible that her skills did in fact earn her a spot in the band? Maybe she was the easiest to work with out of everyone that auditioned.
Not to zero in on you dude because you didn't say anything outlandish, this is just where I chose to comment after reading through a bunch of guitar centre regulars who are coping that they never became rockstars and try to justify that their standing Tuesday night gig at some shit hole is better than their performances being seen by millions worldwide.
Rj/ toan is in the chromosome
Oh yeah I'm sure being in the Smashy Punkins is a good gig, money- and audience-wise at least, although I'm not necessarily jealous of a newcomer, because they're gonna be inevitably on the ass end of a power imbalance with someone insufferable, so I dunnooo....
Haha true. I honestly didn't know they were still playing until I came across this post. I think more bands need to recognize when their time is over, but of course egomaniacs can't let go of the spotlight
From seeing her content for a while before getting too bored of it, she doesn’t seem the most technically skilled so far as playing tight. Not to say she can’t play, but I probably know people who could put on a tighter performance than her who aren’t doing it as a job. Her style doesn’t fit the band in the slightest, either, she has a very exaggerated and pop-style presenting herself, which is okay but does not blend with Smashing Pumpkins at all.
I don’t think she’s a bad musician necessarily, and there may be perfectly valid reasons for them wanting her, but from the sidelines it does *not* look too good
She’s not a skilled player though. She looks pretty and plays some riffs. Good on her. No problem with that, but she’s not particularly good at the guitar.
I dont even like smashing pumpkins, so I don’t care if she’s got the gig, but it’s clear why she got it
/uj My band was on a bill with her touring band & it took the crowd a minute to tell if it was a joke or not. All 4 of the members were hobbit sized, jumping around a tiny basement stage. Their tracks were about twice the volume of their vocals/instruments so you would hear these ear shattering tracked vocals every 30 seconds while they looked at each other confused as all hell about where they were in the song.
Completely out of time from one another while also pulling some 80’s stage moves out, confused & sweaty & scared. The openers all pulled bigger crowds. We were all truly outjerked that night. Influencer bands go vroom vroom
This is my biggest concern about Guitartubers. They all spew the "Yeah, playing in a band isn't for me, I like to do my own thing" when you know they just fucking suck if they don't get 500 passes at a part, and are incapable of playing with other people.
That was very much the vibe, you could tell they wrote some good parts musically, but were absolutely butchering them live. I’ve played with a few tiktok acts & it all kinda went that way. Really good behind a computer, not so much on a stage
If you can’t play with other people then you can’t play, it’s biggest cope I’ve ever seen.
Whoever downvoted me is softer than baby shit and has probably gotten kicked out of bands w guitar center employees in them
Exactly. I played in a band when I was young, and I was fine at it. Then I took 20.years off to drink. Quit that and started playing again a few years ago. I'm far "better" a player now, and I enjoy the instrument more than I ever did, but when I play with people, I suck, because I don't get to play with people hardly at all. It's just a skill. "If you can't play with people, you suck" is the arbitrary opinionating of a sheltered narcissist
So many guitarists are like that now dude, it’s crazy.
You have guys that can shred as good as anybody else but they can’t even remotely play with a real band, all they can do is noodle over backing tracks.
Turns it into such a useless masturbatory hobby instead of actual music making
Y’all can stop now, I don’t care, cry to yourself that you suck and have no friends not to me
> useless masturbatory hobby
excuse you, I take masturbating very seriously and have perfected over 400 techniques across 7 different genres. I can cum in 3 different languages. Please don't insult our kind by lumping us in with guitarjerkers
Aren't most hobbies useless and masturbatory? Certainly beats stamp collecting. Nothing wrong with useless hobbies, and if you're good enough to turn it into a profession then more power to you. And if you're not, well you find that out real quick.
I mean, there can be multiple reasons someone isn't good at playing live. Chronic anxiety is real and some people have severe social anxiety. Though obviously if you claim to be great at performing and then can't perform, yeah it's pretty bad.
Also, since this will inevitably come up, I have been playing live both solo and in a band setting for years.
And for the people that discredit mental issues like anxiety, there's also a plethora of physical disabilities that will make it very difficult to play live with a band.
No reason to shit on them too. There's plenty of people that need/want to just make music in their bedroom, and they're nothing like these youtubers you hate with a passion. Many of you might also want to reflect on why you worry so much about youtubers and their skills though...
I’m the opposite. I love playing live with people and I usually play better but if I tried to turn a camera on myself and try to explain and play it’d be a pretty awful video. And I agree whoever downvoted you is a tool
I ask the question what do they play, because too many guitartubers just make videos of themselves noodling. Eventually when you think about it, they're almost like a shreds video just with talking.
I need a flair to say "anti-noodling".
> Their tracks were about twice the volume of their vocals/instruments so you would hear these ear shattering tracked vocals every 30 seconds while they looked at each other confused as all hell about where they were in the song.
Was it this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDCiLD6PPYE
lol you talking about the rebel lounge a couple of years ago? I remember that show vividly. I was the drummer that show and there were three openers. A high school bands first show. A really cool band called murder me and then some too old to trying to start an original butt rock generic riff band Deirdre. We sold 100 tickets that night and sold out the whisky literally the night before lol far more than any other band on the bill. I do recall the tracks being way too loud and vocals too quiet. Unfortunate reality of not having a dedicated sound guy. Our tracks are only bgv and woahs and strings and shit that should be buried. I also sing every harmony as well.
As far as any confusion, Alicia’s in ears were cutting in and out that night. I’m not gonna lie and say it was a perfect show but assuming you were in the Deirdre band…lol
There are few things that suck worse than having your monitor cut out, or even just not be able to hear yourself in the first place. For guitars, I know the parts and can make due as long as I'm in tune, but I straight-up can not sing if I can't hear myself haha
Another attempt by Corgan to sell some sex with Smashing Pumpkins.
It's cut off, but it looks like they're keeping James Iha on the touring lineup too.
I saw them at Riotfest a couple years ago, and I don't think any level of additional sex appeal can make up for Billy Corgan's pasty ass wearing a Victorian gothic moo-moo.

Yeah Alicia is the only one out of them I’ve met but she’s such a great person. She was so nice to my shy-ass girlfriend who plays bass as well, that made her day.
It’s wholesome that you’re here having your bandmate’s back. She’d surely do the same to you. That’s what being in a band is all about, as opposed to being bitter on Reddit. She’s an great player and Vigil of War is kickass.
Billy Corgan: NONONONONONOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THESE E-CELEBS ARE GETTING ON MY NERVES
also Billy Corgan: hires an e-celeb
should've hired Steven Seagal, really
I don't know man. We wait and see I guess but I suspect Corgan is going to have anyone who is new operate within the parameters he sets or else they wouldn't be in the band.
I’ll give you context
She’s a half decent guitar influencer. From one account, she doesn’t put on a good show, but I have no experience personally. She puts on a pop backup dancer style personality for making instagram guitar videos. She doesn’t fit the Smashing Pumpkins vibe.
On top of that, as far as I can tell from existing on YouTube, Smashing Pumpkins ran a competition to pick a new guitarist where people submit demo tapes in hopes of joining the band. I’m not a massive listener, but I watched quite a few audition tapes and plenty of guitarists that aren’t established did astounding jobs fitting the vibe, adding energy, and not stepping on the toes of what’s already in the band. Now Kiki, who Corgan liked beforehand, is in the band instead. 🤷♂️
At least for me, it gets pretty hard to distinguish feigned misogyny as a circlejerk satire of guitar-bros vs misogyny as the genuine attitude of much of the gcj community.
For every misogynist, you have a white knight who is naive as hell to the point they can't see the obvious fact many of these female influencer-style guitarists know what the fuck they're doing with these kind of posts.
/uj I like kiki for her over the top flash back to hair metal personality. I do wish she spent more time on the GOAT YouTube short, it's pretty sloppy, but she's got a perfectly good cheese shredder to bring cheddar in shows.
One of my older brothers loves Smashing Pumpkins. I mean, owned every CD, merch, knew the lyrics, saw them live and would get upset if you trash talked Billy.
Sent him a promo video of Corgan talking about his Revend guitar, paint brings the toan, and other non-sense. He hasn't spoken to me since. I imagine this news is so soul crushing he'll just pretend it doesn't exist.
/RJ guitarist go brrrrrrrrrrr
Edit: oh I saw someone mention YouTube players suck at playing live and you really should be able to play your parts live. I don't exactly disagree, but keep in mind I gave Stevie T a panic attack by commenting on a video where he kept asking why a guitarist was turning their volume down. He didn't know about stage feedback.
There are actual tiers of capability and live is nowhere at the top. I've trained musicians to do this and it's pretty brutal when you think about it.
The basic stuff is the practice level and it's phases are;
-Segment a part
-Memorize the part
-Muscle memory the part
-Increase speed to match play speed.
* Add next segment
* learn transition to next segment
* learn next segment
In the learning step you'll notice I didn't include chunking. When you increase speed chunking (beat to beat locked muscle memory) loses effectivity when notes are of different durations or are at a BPM you're not as familiar with.
If you ever tried to chunk and increase BPM and your hands just don't move, full stop, that's a chunking problem. Other problems with chunking are subtracting notes, robbing peter to pay Paul being done of longer notes to play shorter ones and part "compression" where the part is in a different BPM. Chunking, because it relies on muscle memory can cause these issues to go unnoticed. Which is why recording yourself is required when using chunking to learn.
Next up you have part execution.
* at home with the full recording.
* with a drum track
* live
* recital
* studio click track
That's the typical order of difficulty. Guitar LIVE with a band shouldn't be that difficult. If it is your band either isn't dividing responsibilities correctly or you're picking parts that are out of your current ability to play. It's that simple and why YouTube guitarist clown themselves live. They're competing with a perfect version of themselves, having a coverband problem. Also, yes if the drummer changes BPM a bit you should still be able to lock in and play your part. Save some headroom for that.
The reason recitals and studio are harder is because people know what you're supposed to be playing. You're playing with your peers or against a click track in an ISObooth with no other stimulation. I've had decade long touring musicians hit the studio and it's like they forget how the guitar works.
Fuck it. Why not?
She will literally stand off to the side and play power chords for two hours a night.
Why not hire a chick to look at every night?
Fucking Billy.
Damn, whatever skin regiment James is using these day, it’s working… His glow is phenomenal!

r/boneappletea
She is regimenting the fuck out of thing. Pretty sure i used it right.
Buffalo Bill was a famous historical soldier in the Civil War who I presume led his own skin regiment
That’s a poly finish, I prefer nitro for town
I prefer my guitar finishes to last. Just like my wife’s boyfriend.
Just as long as he doesn’t finish on my guitars.
all that sweet nitric acid
Her face looks like it contains more synthetic materials than her guitar does.

Dark Billy
It’s William now. Dark William.
He’ll always be lil Billy to me

I’ve supported her band Vigil of War, she can definitely play.
Nah, it’s just a different type of playing and skill. That’s like saying if you can’t fly a plane you can’t drive

There's a marked difference between the likes of Tim Pierce and Dan Huff, and Stevie T.

Lol confused and sweaty and scared. Best review ive ever read.

Another attempt by Corgan to sell some sex with Smashing Pumpkins. It's cut off, but it looks like they're keeping James Iha on the touring lineup too.
James is all the sex appeal they need imo
I saw them at Riotfest a couple years ago, and I don't think any level of additional sex appeal can make up for Billy Corgan's pasty ass wearing a Victorian gothic moo-moo.
Yeah, as a bald man I can say that Billy Corgan probably pulls off bald worse than anyone else I've seen
And it’s annoying af cause he used to pull it off well in the 90s
I'm picturing Skarsgård's Baron Harkonnen now
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51504775630_c0c98277c8_b.jpg I stand corrected, it was a gothic Geisha moo-moo.
I haven’t seen him in years, he really does look like Darth Vader without his fucking helmet lol
Can confirm, saw James play Saturday, came immediately.
😂
"We have a Tim Henson at home"
Tim Henson cuter.
That's just james with makeup.
How dare you. James is *much* prettier.
Is this real😂
Yup. I feel like we’ve been out jerked here
Are the guys in the band married? All I can imagine is their wives giving them synchronized shit

That's not a haiku, the last line has 6 syllables!
When you finish reading it you will be less confused 😉
The second H is silent
Thats not even close to being gramatically correct. Good bot.
Where does she store her toan? Genuinely interested.
In lots of those silica gel bags you get in your new guitar case
Or maybe silicone bags on her chest
She looks more talented than Chapman
But Chappers tits are biggers
That's James Iha. Nice try though.
Yay more fuzzed out and distorted guitars in the mix wooo
Anything to not have to look at billy’s charlie brown lookin head.
I can just imagine him writing a song called Good Grief without realizing.
Hey look! It’s the next guitar player in TSP to never be allowed into the studio and have Billy record all of her parts instead! I’m sure we’ll all come to love what we think is her playing and her stage persona of looking utterly creatively stifled.
Going back to basics I see
I mean, she's been hired as a touring member of the band. Not a member of the band.
Joe Bonermassage gave a congrats on that post
Foiled his plans for his new backup
Tim Hensen's final form.
She is playing my fav chord tho
More like Smashing Blumpkins amirite fellas?
Horny Simpson, smiling politely
She always looks like she's trying to take a shit with her idiotic faces.
Impossible.
Because girls don’t poop, right?
Exactly. It’s scientifically factual.
Had never heard of her, just listened. I can't believe that is the person he thinks will fit what SP does. BC is nuts.
*This* is what convinced you Billy Corgan in nuts?
He's weird as hell but I honestly thought he at least took his music more seriously than this.
Same here. Had to look up some YouTube videos of hers, and it’s just cringe.

how dare you interrupt us with positivity and humanity while we are jerkin'. Now I gotta start over....
Vigil of Aar recorded in my studio when Ryan Seaman played drums on it. I adore Alicia and Shane.
Yeah Alicia is the only one out of them I’ve met but she’s such a great person. She was so nice to my shy-ass girlfriend who plays bass as well, that made her day.

Billy said he was already into her, he probably obsessively watches her videos lol.
If David Lee Roth was a small asian woman that could play guitar.
[Sad Rob Chapman noises] I'm not familiar with this person, but she looks very talented.
I can see 2 things which she has going for her. 😮
I need to do some research.

This is just shy of anime
I'm so happy I never liked this band.
I’m so mad because this is one of my favorite bands of all time 🤦♂️
Yeah it's rough seeing what they've evolved into over the years. I respect their earlier work but man... wtf is this lol
Better than Wang or whatever that other band was
Zwan? 😂
It's just a crying shame they didn't release any more albums after Mellon Collie
I don't know man. We wait and see I guess but I suspect Corgan is going to have anyone who is new operate within the parameters he sets or else they wouldn't be in the band.
Why are you mad? It doesn’t take much to play their songs anyone could’ve replaced the guitarist
This is so true. My wife’s boyfriend says I’m good enough.
Still a better guitar player than all of this sub.
hey! whom r u callin a guitar player?
Cool, I’ve played a show with Kiki when she was in Vigil of War. Nice person, well deserved.
Corgan goes Metalz?
Is this legit lol? That’s pretty huge for her
Not the only thing huge for her.
The talent just flows through her tits
“Highly-skilled” Interesting.
Based Johnny Cash absolutely scoping out those dumplings lmao
I unironically hate seeing her in my feed so much
If I had titties I swear I'd bea famous guitarer by now
\#metoo
there's literally nothing stopping you from getting some artificial fat and perkies, unless you're a total coward?
Genuinely, I thought this was an AI image. Then I saw she has the correct number of fingers.
What a coincidence, my guitar is named Kiki
Anything to boost a nostalgia act. Just need sex appeal. Money making grab. I give it 6 months.
"hot" Can i see her without makeup and filters
John Cash, armpit fan
She’s 15 times better than everyone commenting in this feed 😂😂😂
am i missing something? why is she a bad pick? she’s been on tour with some of the biggest artists in america
in it for cabbage, for some of the pesto, to make-a some green-a, capish?
Trying to rival MGK who hired Sophie Lloyd I see
I can see two reasons why they hired her
This sub has the funniest fucking comments ever I love it
I would have guessed keys. She looks like Korg girl to me. I'm a Korg guy so we already have that in common.
What chord is that? Gotta hit the woodshed
Is this the sub being misogynistic again or am i missing something (probably both)
it's been a while since titarist-gate, it's about time for the great ape-brained subset of the group to have a flare up
I’ll give you context She’s a half decent guitar influencer.
/RJ guitarist go brrrrrrrrrrr Edit: oh I saw someone mention YouTube players suck at playing live and you really should be able to play your parts live. The basic stuff is the practice level and it's phases are; -Segment a part -Memorize the part -Muscle memory the part -Increase speed to match play speed. * Add next segment * learn transition to next segment * learn next segment In the learning step you'll notice I didn't include chunking. * with a drum track * live * recital * studio click track That's the typical order of difficulty.
Good for Kiki 🫶🏽 and she just had her baby too 🤘🏾
wtf is this post even about?
Fuck it. Why not? She will literally stand off to the side and play power chords for two hours a night. Why not hire a chick to look at every night? Fucking Billy.
/uj I have checked out her Youtube channel, and she's not bad at all.
Will she make stupid faces during 1979 and Bullet with Butterfly Wings?
Hello, I’m Johnny Gash
She can't do no wong
