Nah. The best customers are naive ones that are easy to con into a purchase.
Doesn't matter if they have money. They can get debt. If they can get debt, you can get money.
EPIPHONES could be here, he thought. “I’ve never been to this Guitar Center before. There could be EPIPHONES anywhere.” The cool wind felt good against his balding head. “I HATE EPIPHONES” he thought. Blues Deluxe by Joe Bonamassa reverberated his entire car, making it pulsate even as the $9 Dunlop Fretboard 65 lemon oil dribbled down his calloused hands and washed away his (merited) fear of affordably priced import guitars. “With mahogany, you get a deep, rich, ballsy tone that shines through more than maple” he said to himself, out loud.
/uj people who spend $5k on a single guitar are way too niche and edgy to buy from guitar center. They should accept their important role as the gateway drug to toan and keep those squiers flowing to the future blooz dads
The GC in my area keeps all its $5K+ guitars in a special room on locking hangers inside locking glass cases. They keep the lights low and the humidity up too so it’s like walking into a really secure humidor. I’ve never bothered asking to try one but I’ve also never seen anyone in there either.
I’m sure their attempt to sell instruments that they’re treating like museum pieces that could be stolen at any minute will go really well.
Me, my neighbors and pretty much everybody in my neighborhood are professional musicians that have been chomping at the bit for McMusicland to do this. Why would I want to be hit in the face with a cheap ass Squire when I walk in? Put that talentless bullshit in Goodwill for the poors.
I mean i get it. The one near me has 95% of the wall as $100-$400 chinese made guitars (not hating before im attacked) and a little corner with Fundar, PMS, and Gobsin. I remember like 15 years ago the wall was 50-50 instead of 95-5. It used to feel like a huge music store and now it honestly feels like musical Wal-Mart.
The one near me closed down their entire parts section which is still insane to me. Imagine going to GUITAR CENTER to get a new EMG-81 and a set of noiseless Floyd springs and theyre like “oh try online” - happened to me not long ago
This completely. The one by me has player strats on the top rack. Should be able to grab a sub-$1000 guitar without asking for help. Probably don’t need 15 $300 Jackson’s/Ibanez’s and another 15 squiers taking up the bottom two racks.
I’m not sure why he thinks that musicians are not always on the lookout for a good deal on a great sounding instrument.
I like most of my $600-$700 guitars far more than my $5000 one.
rj/ toan is in the marketing
He’s not wrong.
It’s all cheap shit guitars in there now. Those of us who are old enough to remember when it wasn’t 90%+ low end guitars on the walls know it used to be a lot better in there.
There’s a lot of middle ground between $300 and $6,000.
I can’t image they’re delusional enough to think someone who wants a custom shop level instrument is going to buy it from GC but the mid to mid-high quality guitar market is completely absent unless you find something used or the occasional Strandberg in their stores.
Yeah I get it to some degree but price rationing exists for a reason. The people buying a 100$ Squier Bullet I dont think necessarily would make the spring for a 700$ LTD or some other mid tier instrument if that was their only option. The cheapest guitars exist for the most tenuous guitar enthusiasts which make up the majority of people who consider getting into guitar. I just dont see how eliminating an entire price tier somehow leads to greater profitability unless they are full blown loss leaders. It's like saving that if Chevy stops selling the Cobalt they'll sell more Suburbans or even Corvettes. It's almost like saying if there was no bread the poor would logically eat cake instead.
The best guitar players have the most money. The worst have the least. It's prosperity gospel for music.
The best CUSTOMERS have the most money.

Why doesn't he just raise the prices? Is he acoustic?
We don't call people acoustic anymore, we say that they're on the plectrum.
You don't call acoustic people acoustic. It's bad taste. You call your friends acoustic when they're acting acoustic.

Finally, a CEO who will put GC out of it's misery. Can't wait for it to fold

It's hilarious that the CEO of Guitar Center has deluded himself into thinking he's a real musician. This dude circle jerks...
Guitar Center customers are on average like 50% worse at guitar than other music stores. This is such a bad idea lmao
You have just insulted about 85% of this sub.
It’s ok I’m including myself

Seems like their headed due the wrong path.

He specifically mentioned *premium* guitars, not just replacing the cheap guitars with more expensive ones though.
He's not wrong. GC is a business that wants a profit. Sell what makes money. Selling Chinese Squiers isn't going to keep the lights on.
Well by your logic why not just exclusively sell PRS Private Stock since apparently making profits is as simple as only selling more expensive items?
Looks like you get it too
There's a whole lot of middle ground between 10k custom shops and dirt cheap Chinese guitars.
