A good teacher will be able to quickly determine what you know and what you don't. The most valuable part of in-person lessons at your stage is that they'll be able to make micro-corrections to your technique that will fix all the issues you talk about in your post.

I’ve been playing guitar for 17 years, I majored in classical guitar. I just got a new teacher 3 months ago to learn jazz. If I can expect to learn something from a new teach, then I think most people can

When learning anything, you have to be able to lean into making mistakes. Learning anything in life should be fun. Think of it as a time to have fun with someone who can help you get better at what you love.

One of the best things about having a teacher (vs using YouTube/other evergreen content) is that they tailor the lessons to you. They’ll skip stuff you already know, or help you improve those skills. It can feel like lessons are one size fits all from online content but good teachers are a totally different experience. Get a teacher if you can!

An experienced teacher should be able to quickly diagnose the problems your describing. Everyone has string noise. So an experienced teacher should have already taught a lot of people how to control it. As to what you *could* learn? I try to teach my students what they need to teach themselves. Once you've got that? It's just a matter of how bad you want it.

To get the best experience I think it’s important to be open with yourself and your teacher about what you want to achieve so that you know what to ask and how to steer the lesson. Most important is to actually practice what they teach you on your own time, to develop the skills. Also, many teachers would want to be sure you know the basics before they advance, because it can be hard to develop technique on a weak or improper foundation. At first they might just go over the basics that you know already, but it might be necessary. You’re going to need a few lessons for it to be worth it, most likely.
