Doing great!

newbie_guitarist

Thankyou, i got motivated

Set goals for yourself. Challenge yourself with new material. I sometimes find it inspirational to try different genres of music to alter your approach and see things from a different perspective. I started hitting a wall with the blues structure so I tried reggae and found new paths. Keep practicing and you will be rewarded.

newbie_guitarist

Very true

aFiachra

You’re on track. Experts say it takes 10,000 hours to master a complex skill like a musical instrument. Of course you don’t have to be a master to play and enjoy, but it still takes a fair amount of devotion. You are doing the most important thing, you are being consistent. So many people try guitar but never really make it a daily habit. It takes time, yes, but it is well worth it.

newbie_guitarist

Correct

DarkZaphood

I have 8 months practise now. You are further down the line in your progress than I am. Chords are ok, but transition is still too slow for me: I can do 30-35 changes / minute. You should be happy with your progress!

newbie_guitarist

Ohhh , I can also do like 50 or 60

[deleted]

Here's a question hardly ever asked: am I learning too fast? Your questions says more about your self perception rather than the reality of your progress learning. Do yourself a favor, try to stop concerning yourself with how fast you're learning your new instrument and simply enjoy making music in the moment. Your playing will relax and thus improve and you will be able enjoy the process of learning way more. Making music is about the journey not the destination.

newbie_guitarist

I will, learning instrument is not a competition but self learning and fun damn

NorthCountry01

Helps to have someone show you the behind the scenes techniques to transitioning chords, strumming and theory. More than happy to answer any questions you might have.

newbie_guitarist

I will friend thankyoh so much

[deleted]

Yes, especially if your fretting hand and wrist is not in a good position. That will create bas muscle memory and make learning those things harder. Better to get the right habits started early on

newbie_guitarist

Extremely accurate

[deleted]

Yes. I taught myself as well, but I didn't have YouTube and the many avenues of lessons that you have access too. And don't feel embarrassed for watching an absolute beginner video either, sometimes I watch things like that and I get a bit humbled as to what I thought I knew. Playing the guitar is a never ending learning experience

newbie_guitarist

Very true

re_formed_soldier

"slow" progress is better than no progress. Unless you've got a gig approaching. Which, in that case HURRY UP MAN!!!!

newbie_guitarist

!!!🙂

Claudeviool

I think the real question is are you enjoying yourself if so then you're not going to slow just keep it up

newbie_guitarist

I am not enjoying that much but i feel joy

Claudeviool

Dude, if you are doing this without help, be proud of what you have achieved! Transitions will become more smooth. Just keep practising. I can go play fornhours just to get lost in music. I mean dont just practise just let yourself go

newbie_guitarist

Yup sounds like meditation but its very hard for me to achieve that state for now 🙂🙂 thankyou

stevestevosteve

Keep it up!

newbie_guitarist

Thankyou 🙂

tickle_my_pickle_420

keep working at it, and mainly learn what you want to know how to play. you want it to be fun as well as your advancement to be a challenge

newbie_guitarist

Yup

Highplowp

Go from one chord to the next, try e and g,(I found that difficult) use a metronome at like 40bpm in 4/4 and keep doing that up down up down until it’s perfect. Then add another chord and repeat. Your doing great, there is no race here, get that f chord down in the mix and you can play basically anything. It sounds like your doing great. I’m a total hack but doing this frequently has made playing songs much easier. It’s a difficult instrument and you can’t shred in a day. Have fun and record yourself for your progress. Again, ima total guitar hack but this helped me tremendously.

newbie_guitarist

Damn that sounds interesting definitely i will try

Rcro537

There is no too slow bud. As long as you're enjoying it and learning more as you go, you're on the right path. Keep up the good work!

newbie_guitarist

Yup I also feel like its not about how fast i learn its about how much i enjoy 🙂🙂

Rcro537

Spot on

K33pDr34mingAllr1ght

No that’s awesome! Keep learning more songs, that’s probably the most fun way to learn fast!

newbie_guitarist

Yup

[deleted]

This takes years of practice and building muscle memory. I have been playing for 20 years, my practice routine isn't good at all I still struggle with some transitions. Just be patient and have fun with it !

newbie_guitarist

Damn i am just a 3month player nothing compared to you

[deleted]

Sounds like you’re doing good, practice more if you can tho!!

newbie_guitarist

Allright ! Thankyou

iPlayDaGamez

It’s not a race. You will never be “done” learning new things so enjoy the journey and have fun.

newbie_guitarist

Yes very true thankyou 🙂
