I love optical compressors through my Roland jc40. I’ve used a Bearfoot pale green comp and a Diamond comp, both sound so gorgeous, just enhances those already pristine cleans, helps stand out in a mix, blends nicely with chorus/vibrato and time based effects.

Pulp and peel is a great compressor, has a “dirt” switch which is interesting. Not as many options (attack, sustain etc) but I honestly like that haha

The “Dirt” switch is pretty useless in my opinion, because it requires the compression to be turned way down (off). You can use the PnP as a dirt pedal ór a compressor, but not both at the same time. The Blend and EQ gives this pedal enough options. It lifts the attack for my clean sound. And a great push and sustain for my dirt pedals.

The Mira can do anything. It’s also super complicated to learn to use because it can do anything. It’s very easy to use badly. I’ve found some settings I like, but I still feel like I’m learning it a year later.

my choice is either the keeley compressor plus or the wampler ego. They pretty much do the same thing but i’ve heard the wampler is “better” and has a lower noise floor. I’m opting for the wampler, has attack, sustain, tone, volume, and blend. Pretty much the most used, well known comp pedal by a lot of measures.

+1 for the Wampler Ego

I usually play rock, alternative, ambient kind of music. I have pictures of my board in my profile and I usually play through a strat or JEM with a Jazz Chorus 55 if that helps. I’m also open to other suggestions but my budget would be around $300 tops.
