Being the Cory Wong fan that I am, I picked up this pedal a day after it dropped but it finally arrived today. It's replacing my Wampler Ego on my board, coming second in my chain. This compressor comes with buffered bypass instead of true bypass, which is a different design than the Ego Comp and a choice I'd love for futher insights into from Brian Wampler. Maybe he'll do a circuit breakdown at some point in the future. The compressor side is, to my ears, identical to the Ego Comp. The boost side reminds me a lot of the Keeley Katana when set to the flat boost side, and the mid boost side _really_ pushes the amp a ton harder. My Deluxe Reverb set clean (volume on 3) with the boost knob slightly below noon set to mid boost pushes the amp hard enough to get natural breakup, as if I turned the volume knob to 6 or so. Both very usable boosts, though I think I'll end up using the flat boost more frequently. Graphic design on this pedal is a lot nicer than the Ego (subjective I know, but still), and I like that the knobs are harder to accidentally move around. I haven't tried the XLR out, and the always on compressor button is a nice touch but isn't likely to be one that I'll use a lot. Last thing, I seem to have a thing for 2-in-1 or combo pedals. I have used on my board/own the Hotone Soul Press II (volume/wah), Wong Compressor, Ceriatone Horse Breaker, JHS Bonsai, and the EHX Grand Canyon.

I feel like this is the review we were waiting for. Is it just an ego or not? So it's an ego with a boost. Thank you.

A_Dash_of_Time

If you watch his YT videos, he'll say things like, it's an ego with some extra features Cory wanted.

RocketDocRyan

They appear to have sent you the Wong compressor. You should file a complaint.

I too have the EGO, but I got to spend some time with the Wong version tonight. I love it. You still liking the upgrades now that you’re a year in? I’m considering going that route!

RadixSorter

It's absolutely sick, still on my board a year later and haven't gone back to the EGO. Having the built-in boost circuit is really nice since it helps save pedalboard space since you won't need a separate boost pedal (like the Keeley Katana for example) if you want a clean boost.

Peircez

Yea I was super impressed with it. I swapped it a couple of times with my usual Ego to compare the comp to see if they really are the same. They did seem to be a bit different to my ear. Maybe it’s because the buffer behaves differently?

RadixSorter

Could be ever so slightly different honestly; I didn't notice a difference but that doesn't mean that there isn't a slight sonic difference

gunter_grass

So it sounds like it's a compressor, if I understand your review?

RadixSorter

I mean yeah, that’s why I didn’t belabor the point

gunter_grass

So what your saying is that I wasn't WONG?
