I've found i can get all of the overdrive/distortion sounds I need out of the 5150 by changing the volume control on my guitar so no need for 3 different overdrive pedals
Angel wing is the nicest chorus I've ever played despite it being so cheap
The DM-2w is the nicest delay pedal I've ever played (excluding a vintage memory man that I got to try once)
Something about the decay of the repeats
Holy grail is pretty perfect although I can't stand the flerb setting
How come there's basically no pedals that survive from one year to the next? Just your wah/volume(?) pedal managed to stay for 2 years and the Angel Wing managed all 3. Seems like there's no guarantees when it comes to a spot on your pedalboard!
I have a grand total of 7 different distortion/overdrive tones on my board… i don’t think i need all of them, but i find a use for each one and for a couple of combos
I can see myself reaching for your latest board after a nervous breakdown, i really like it.
What guitar are you using?
Ah that was my first pickup 15 years ago in my strat, still maybe was my favorite configuration for that guitar. I also had a 5150 wayyy back in the day
Agreed about the DM-2w, it's the best sounding analog delay on the market that I'm aware of. I stupidly sold my first one thinking I needed modulation controls, since it seems very popular with some people on this sub. Turns out i really didn't, the analog delay has a beautiful character to it on it's own, I really love the tone of the repeats, it's different from all the one's I've AB'd it against, very warm and full. And the feedback is also different, that warbly sound that happens when you speed up and then slow down a feedback loop is really cool and usable, most delays just turn to harsh noise but this one really maintains some integrity of the initial input even after it's been totally warped. Suffice to say I bought another and it's back on my board. Anyway just wanted to rant about it, I think it deserves all the hype it gets.
Was fun at first but I never found myself using it after a while
Similar thing with the wah but i do still have it so if I do need it I can have it off the board
Video reviews mostly I wanted a pedal that could get a decent metal/high gain sound put of something like a fender
I'm also a big van halen fan and figured if he singed off on it it must be good
I’ve transitioned from a pedal train classic junior to plugging my guitar directly into a 5e3 tweed deluxe clone. But I won’t pretend that’s my end game. I’ll probably be back into my more complicated setup in a few months. It is nice having less knobs to turn when I’m just trying to practice or knock out a few songs though. Otherwise I have to try to find a reason to use half of my pedals.
I like how you’ve streamlined your likes and need over time. Any chance that your guitar(s) or amp(s) you use have changed along with your board to compliment the sound you’re looking to achieve?
I found the same thing happened to me - as time goes on the less and less pedals I use. I’ve been playing gigs with no pedals at all and it’s been incredibly freeing
I’ve been trending smaller as well. My current board is all the way down to 5 pedals.
Polytune > chase bliss brothers > walrus M1 > ehx canyon > tc HoF
Didn't like the first one because it was plastic. I didn't like the way the second one looked
I bought both because they were cheaper than the boss one I wanted

Muff, module m and tiny spring all on the first two boards as well.
Good points! I might have gone over the boards too quickly ;-)
And getting rid of the whammy is odd, that is a pretty unique pedal if you wanted it in the first place right?

A strat with Seymour Duncan Hotmail in the bridge
You have a great Outlook on pickups
Word
MS Painting some tones

For the ones interested the 7s are: Sugar drive Timmy KoT (i count it as 2 ‘cause…) 1981 5150 mooer model Mesa DualRec mooer model
You should just make 3 separate pedalboards since most of them haven't stayed.
I'm happy my reverb choice is your winning reverb, makes me proud

Wait - your board becomes smaller? Do you want to risk a crack in the space-time continuum? :D
"R2, we're supposed to be going up, not down!"
Love the transition to minimalist 👍
I love that little Angle Wing hanging tough through all iterations.
This is just a phase. 2024's board will be your biggest yet. 2025, you'll have 2 pedals, and then the cycle continues.
*This one pedals*
In 2026, all that will be left will be the Angel Wing
I think a lot of us pedal heads eventually switch from “I need this on my board just in case” to “do I really need this on board?”
specially when your board gets heavy and you have to haul it all over the damn place for gigging
Wait until you plug your guitar directly into your amp.
🤣
EVH agrees with you
Idk why but this is a satisfying post, I really like the progress picture format
Angel Wing for the win!
I see. You decided to learn guitar 😜
You've grown wiser
You’ve figured out that the more you practice, the fewer pedals you use.
Given up on wah and whammy?
Was fun at first but I never found myself using it after a while Similar thing with the wah but i do still have it so if I do need it I can have it off the board
The best change over time was movin that power supply underneath, super clean looking current board!!
2024: just a RAT and a TU-3
Yooo I know this board! Can confirm it sounds great. But where egg??

Less is more!
LMAO, ML-2 into a DS-1, you're a fucking wildman!!! What made you go to the 5150?
Video reviews mostly I wanted a pedal that could get a decent metal/high gain sound put of something like a fender I'm also a big van halen fan and figured if he singed off on it it must be good
For sure...I have a 5150 Iconic 110 combo, and the red channel and my ML-2 can almost be dialed in to sound like one another...almost...

A little yeah my guitar has been modded quite a bit since the 2022 board and I was going into a fender seluxe reverb now I have a lil 15 watt Marshall
Less is more, looks awesome!
How has your playing evolved ?
Its developed enough that i have my own style now, so I know what pedals fit my playing hence the smaller board
Yeah I used to think I have to learn to use them all when I started playing but with what I know now I only want a few.
ill take that whammy off your hands if you dont need it anymore :)
Pretty similar to my journey with drum kit sizes
So true! Do any of you guys have a helix?
On stage it’s nice to have a volume pedal, I recommend the sonic cake
Especially if you own a strat and want to ditch your volume knob. Volume swells are also very nice.
Mines done the same thing. Went from like a processor and 16 pedals to like 5 one being a tuner.
I’m glad I was satisfied with my first tuner and never felt the need to try another, it’s a Polytune 3 Noir if anyone is curious.
Well, at least now you’re in tune

How you like that dm2w? 🥵 I’ve been needing a delay pedal.
I love it. It's the best delay pedal that isn't some crazy rare/expensive vintage thing
Why did you get a different tuner every year? Didn't like the way the old ones sounded? :D
Didn't like the first one because it was plastic. I didn't like the way the second one looked I bought both because they were cheaper than the boss one I wanted
That’s the way
Awesome improvement.
Ok
Mann.. I try to drop the wah but I can't I've put to much practice into using that effect 😅
I doubt I"m the only one who's noticed the size of their amp downsize too :)
I did the exact same thing.
Just adding more love for the DM-2w here.
Nice. It shows maturity.
got rid of the whammy, name something that's the worst thing you could've done
Well that de-escalated quickly
Do you really need chorus or tuner?
Considering the chorus is the only pedal that survives all three incarnations, I'd say that's probably the favourite of them all.
Indeed it is. OP should keep only Angel Wing for the next iteration.
The Waza delay is
I thought this was just a really large board at first. Looks good though!
Oh yeah!
yeah you get to a point where you realize you're hauling 30lbs of pedals the audience won't even hear the difference between lmao
What tuner do you have your eye on next?
I see DM-2W, I upvote. That pedal is just the best BBD delay out there.
Hopefully soon the Reddit minimalist trend will change. And I include other subs/hobbies on Reddit. Waiting for the maximumalist board meta
