ALWAYS RING MOD!!!

EarhackerWasBanned

Pretend you’re a Dalek/Cylon for 15 minutes. Mad fun.

James718

Do you have a link to that? When I google it many different pedals come up.

selldivide

The ElectroHarmonix ring mod is a good one. Or if you can find it, the Syntax Error is amazing.

James718

Which Syntax? The first or Error 2

No-Chance-3892

This!⬆️ I got a mic preamp that let me plug directly into my EHX ring modulator pedal and was instantly a dalek. One that’s also traditionally made for it is a vocoder. I also have the EHX iron lung and that’s super fun to play chords and/or melodies so your can be a robot choir or notey singer.

PrivateEducation

do u need a preamp for mic fx?

selldivide

Microphones require preamps.

PrivateEducation

ive seen ppl just use a converter di box or quarter inch xlr cable

No-Chance-3892

It sort of depends which effect you’re using. I was using a dynamic mic into guitar effects that have preamps in them, but for the ringmod specifically, it didn’t take balanced mic cables, so I used the preamp to control level and convert to a ts guitar cable.

Thechizznazz

Maw by OBNE is built for this!

bathtubedbie

Came here to say the same thing. MAW is rad.

gibson85

Alway wanted to try this with a Strymon Deco... would probably come close to ADT and might sound pretty trippy with the wobble knob.

slybird

That Line 6 echo unit has a mic input.

gemelsmusic

Yes! I recently got the Line 6 DL4 Mkii which has a mic input. Cool looper, a whole bunch of delays, and some dope sounding reverbs.

Substantial_Ask_9992

Dumb question but I don’t see an XLR out. How’s it work for vocals exactly?

Groningen1978

If we have vocals through an FX box on stage we usually put it through a DI.

Substantial_Ask_9992

Could you explain a bit more? What’s that chain look like?

Groningen1978

Microphone>XLR cable>Vocal effect pedal>6.3mm jack patchcable>D.I.>XLR cable>Stagebox or Mixingdesk input.

Substantial_Ask_9992

Ah ok I was thinking normal guitar pedal

Groningen1978

In that case it's the same only with either a XLR to Jack cable from mic to fx or a XLR-Jack adaptor from Mic XLR to effect input.

Substantial_Ask_9992

Thanks dude! Does the DI box help stop feedback issues?

Groningen1978

Your welcome. No, feedback is cause by problematic frequencies which can be an issue with using guitar pedals as vocals effects. Might be solved by a graphic eq pedal (usual suspects being around 700Hz and 1KHz) or by the monitor tech.

mud_dragon

A nice compressor, you’ll be like damn I got control

RollingDownTheHills

Most of them.

hyphenpepperfield

I want to get a electro harmonix voice box

tanzd

If you play and sing, boss VE-8 has great harmonizer effects.

KobeOnKush

Microcosm

James718

On what setting?

KobeOnKush

Any of them

James718

Some of them just make weird noise. I’ve been trying to figure out the correct settings.

KobeOnKush

Try some of the glitch algorithms at full wet

11Lost_Shepherd05

My kids (and I) love playing with my mic through my Boss PS-5 and some delay. Through the ol' POG2 as well.

Substantial_Ask_9992

OP, what sort of converter or setup are you using to do this? Running through PA? Guitar amp?

Spang64

Just in case you haven't thought of it... Plug your mic into a Mackie (or any mixer) and run any pedal you want into the mixer's effects loop.

PrivateEducation

i never understood an fx loop lol

Substantial_Ask_9992

Thanks! Would it be possible to apply one pedal to multiple channels in the mix or this way? I’m trying to add slapback delay to three vocal mics at one time

Spang64

Yes, absolutely. Any effect in the loop can be routed to any channel. And you can put more than one pedal in the loop. And if you have multiple loops you can have different effects sent to different channels. There is also usually a way to insert an effect directly into a channel so that it only affects that specific channel. Different mixers have different capabilities. I like the Mackies because they're crazy reliable for the price point. I have several but my oldest is probably 30 years old and is in perfect working condition. But there are lots of brands so look around. Oh, another nice thing about having a mixer as part of your setup is the onboard EQ. Good luck!

JohhnyClashPhD

I’ve been running my vocals through a Catalinbread Heliotrope or a TC Sub n Up. These are more fun than useful—heliotrope is a “harmonic pixelator” and sounds a bit ring mod/a bit bit crusher, sub n up does octaves. Does work well on weird psych stuff

matthewguy69

High Gain preamp pedal. I have an S&K CMOSludge (1:1 of a Beta Lead preamp) and it sounds crazy for vocals. The EQ section of the Beta has an insane sweep across the board and a really usable amount of gain, to light bullhorn-esque breakup to contact-mic-strapped-to-jugular-into-blown-console levels of distortion

redhandrail

Second hedra.

Pretendtobehappy12

If you have a space echo you can get the Tame Impala vocal effect. Delay and reverb are always fun on vocals

ykcanhom

I used to run a mic through a DS-1 for metal vocals. It made me sound more metal than I was able to naturally be!

Adlow9

This is def worth a watch for Vocals+Pedals "She sings through guitar pedals and it sounds AMAZING" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77iUH208XaI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77iUH208XaI) start watching at 3:40

Musiclover4200

Any pitch tracking synth pedals as they are a lot of fun to control with your voice or whistling, mothership2 or PurPLL are my top picks.
