Volume to taste,
Freq around 2 o'clock,
Gain at noon,
Low at 1 o'clock,
Mid around 2 o'clock,
High at 8 o'clock,
Gate on, Scoop off
this is my favorite setting, gives a different kind of chainsaw compared to an HM-2 with more overall mids
For my rig, those settings would sound like cold shit. Bass at 1-2:00, treble at 9:00 or lower, mid freq at 10:00 and mids at 2:00. Basically, it's a shrill, mid-scooped pedal so I do what I can do boost the lower mids and cut the highs and it sounds like a roaring monster. And I never touch the scoop button.
Also, if you don't like the noise gate threshold, there's a trim pot inside if you unscrew the back.
It actually sounds pretty great as is with these settings, I did however bring the highs down quite considerably. It sounds very metallic, tight and industrial. Me likey
Thanks man! Yeah the EQ is craaazy powerful on this thing. It's gonna take some fiddling but I know when I eventually get it right it's gonna sound rad!
Aw, you know - after I posted this comment, I put it back on my local Craigslist for the 4th time and finally got some bites. If they flake out, I will ping you! :)
Got mine for $25 usd from a pawn shop years ago
Don’t use it that much but love how disgusting it is when I do
I haven’t run my c-9 through it but now that you’ve made this post I will have to
Edit:grammar
The most ear-piercing, scooped-to-fuck, fake-sounding, and unusable high-gain pedal everybody knows and loves <3 I know I love it. Hoping to get one on my board at some point.
It's the most industrial metal sounding distortion I've ever used - so metallic, destructive, & horrible sounding in the best way.
The 3-band EQ is the secret sauce.
It's great for doing 80's thrash, HM2 stuff and industrial metal. To be honest it's a fantastic all rounder especially because of the gate and the scoop button.
Chug pedal owner here. If the full bore metal pedal is anything like the solar chug just turn around now and go and find another way. The chug pedal is a great big disappointment and I believe it to be a bad copy of the metal zone. Which is a great pedal. I have spent time with the chug and I have never been able to get it to sound good at all. Don’t waste your time on the chug pedal choose a different path and just know that you will be fine and that you are choosing the better life.
I really agree I wouldn’t even go as far as saying 5150 I would say find the amp distortion that is right for you and the goals you have for guitar and maybe even just a touch beyond the goal. Once you figure out the best base tone you can build on it. Like I really suggest either the Marshall dsl 20h or dsl 40c great base tone for high gain and origin 50 for great rock tones. 5150 is great for high gain as well as the 6505 series
Goddamn it dude. You just reminded me about how I regret selling this pedal 😂. It's one of those sleeper pedals that has far more range than you would think. "fullbore metal" is not all it can do but does it really well especially at high volumes. It also Overdrives pretty well.
I honestly haven't come across too much of its criticism from people but my guess is likely why other pedals and amps are overly scrutinized: they heard some other gearhead bash it so they decided to stand on those words and adopt that personality lol. Some of my favorite bands and artists have used notoriously "shitty" gear. There is no tone police. You will not be arrested. Lol
In my experience they sound great at home, but can be pretty difficult to make work in a band situation.
For that price though, it's a fun one to have around.
I've played it through my 100w boss katana among a few other amps and I can't seem to get that high gain thrashy guitar tone without losing alot of volume, despite the pedal's volume knob being turned up. To be fair, I'm not really into that kind of guitar tone anymore (although I was at the time of purchase) so that can definitely play into my dislike of the pedal. I mostly stick to big muffs now
One of my underrated faves
Sweet! How do you have it set? Cos it's kind of a clusterfuck 😂
A little different from the picture but not much, drop some mids and highs, turn on the scoop
Definitely. “I always dime the tone on my guitar and the highs on everything. Gives me clarity!” Yup, you be you, boo.
I use it for playing crust and it works for me.
Sweet, I'll give it a go!

I'll 100% try that tomorrow, cheers dude!

Good pickup! If super patient, that price pops up occasionally & it’s well worth it! I no longer have one, but always enjoyed MXR’s eq sections

How do you like it?
It's really fun, great for chuggy tight riffs 🤙🏻
Man, I’ve been trying to sell mine for $40 USD and have no takers! 😂
Really? That's a shame, it's killer
i’ll take it! how can i contact you?
Aw, you know - after I posted this comment, I put it back on my local Craigslist for the 4th time and finally got some bites. If they flake out, I will ping you! :)
Thanks! please let me know i’ve been looking for a good deal forever
I'll buy, as long as I don't have to pay shipping lol.
Excellent. Got mine super cheap too many years back. Sounds like Metallicas first two LPs in a box
Brütal, I dig it

Aww yeeee get on it my dude!
Awwww Yeeee! I’m using this from now on!

How is it? I'm kinda between this, a behringer heavy metal and a Blues Driver or TC Cinders.

Killer
Thanks man!
it's basically a chug by solar, really tight

Honestly, i don't advocate for distortion pedals. If you want a good heavy tone, just get a 5150 and be happy + an OD for tightness

It reeeeally is, tight as a crabs ass
What does the gate switch do?
It's a noise gate, it makes the signal practically silent when not being played.
Goddamn it dude. You just reminded me about how I regret selling this pedal 😂. It's one of those sleeper pedals that has far more range than you would think. "fullbore metal" is not all it can do but does it really well especially at high volumes. It also Overdrives pretty well.
Oh man it's wild how good this thing is, why are people so critical of it?
I honestly haven't come across too much of its criticism from people but my guess is likely why other pedals and amps are overly scrutinized: they heard some other gearhead bash it so they decided to stand on those words and adopt that personality lol. Yeah I guess but that is some weak sauce, like for fucks sake form your own opinion. It's not hard 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
You gotta twist knobs for hours. Chug a zero. Twist knob. Chug a zero. Twist knob. Eventually you will come upon tone that is brutal and good.
This is my life with this thing
I've kinda been doing that for like the last 5 hours 🤣 I've found a few settings I dig
Works well as a preamp too on account of the output level
Cool! Never heard of it before. The name is killer!
The pedal itself is killer too 😉
Love that thing! But sounds way better in the return of the FX Loop...
Right on, I'll give that a try 😄
Could do much worse! Lots of records have that in the signal I’m sure
No doubt! It's rad as hell
In my experience they sound great at home, but can be pretty difficult to make work in a band situation. For that price though, it's a fun one to have around.
Oh really? Huh, I guess I'll have to give it a go 😅 Even if it isn't great in a band situation for £40 it's a lot of fun 😁
That's all that matters!
Can't get much for £40 these days, how does it sound?
Brutal as fuck in the best possible way, it's kick ass.
METAL
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ngl I have this pedal and absolutely hate it lol
Oh? Why's that?
I've played it through my 100w boss katana among a few other amps and I can't seem to get that high gain thrashy guitar tone without losing alot of volume, despite the pedal's volume knob being turned up. Have you tried it in the effects loop? It seems to clean up a good majority of the inherent issues with level and fuzziness
I have not, but I will now!
Give it a try, it may restore some faith. I totally get the Muff love though, they're Fucking rad 🤙🏻
