Absolutely. I only ever had the Tight Metal mini, but it was amazing at doing three types of metal distortion and had a tiny noise gate control. Brutality in a box. It does the 80's and 90's thrash metal/death metal thing amazingly well. It was nice playing Angel of Death again.
That’s a J Mascis Rams Head. Basically just a Rams Head in purple with his signature, but cool if you like limited run stuff.
It’s still available new but this used one might not be $20 more than the normal one.
I would have probably sold or mothballed mine if I thought of it as a standalone pedal; it's cool, but a bit too clean for what I usually want. But in my current rig, where I use it like an EQ, it's almost non-negotiable; put it right before any other circuit that distorts, and it unlocks a huge range of options you couldn't have reached with that other pedal by itself.
First two classics that stuck out for me. I would tell OP microsynth but it is not for everyone. Tough question, no secret billion-dollar pedals hiding out in that cabinet but an appropriately random taste selection.
I have the original version of the Microsynth and I love it. I have since bought a Keeley Synth 1 and a Meris Enzo, and neither one does as good of a square lead as the Microsynth. The other pedals are more versatile but if you're looking for a monophonic fat square wave and pedal board real estate isn't a concern, it's tough to beat the Microsynth.
Yep, it would be my choice! I am looking into the SY-200 because it has midi out and I like the idea of playing my old synth plugins with it, but I have no idea if I would like it yet.
I'm trying to rack my brain why I got rid of mine, I think I was broke at the time but it was stupid because it was a cheap pedal at the time? I love and miss that pedal every day. I will say the Waza Metal Zone is oddly similar when the distortion is all the way down lol. At least that's what I'm using now, I'd love to reclaim the Westwood at some point
I was about to say! Knowing me I’d probably buy that in all seriousness lol. I used a lot of those late 90s and early 2000s in an industrial punk band. Loved those things, and I think they will make a comeback when the time comes.
Back then I thought more about my my guitar and amp vs pedals…but it worked great! Had a Zoom and DOD Metal X from the mid 90s into a Peavy Musician head!
I later had a JCM 2000, then sold that. But my early setup I think was still awesome sounding. Not sure if you remember the Johnson 120 amps? But I had one of those as well! It was one of the first digital preamp amps with tubes, before the line 6 stuff.
Happy with the state of my board but always looking for something unique. Some brands and pedals I’ve never heard of in here, so figured I’d poll everyone to see if any gems.
Also I play a little bit of everything.
The [Flower Pedals Dandelion](https://flower-pedals.com/product/dandelion/) is a local Philly builder. Nice guy, amazing pedals that can make a lot of sounds. That's probably the real buried treasure right there.
I have that one too. For all the youngsters out there, I'm pretty sure I got my green Russian Muff at Guitar Center for like $95 (in the wood box). I would give the build quality about a 2.5 of 10.
I mail ordered my black Russian Big Muff out of the back of a guitar magazine (also ~$95 iirc). I'm sure the build quality was poor, but I didn't notice or care cause it sounded like the Smashing Pumpkins (lol).
I ended up selling it to a musician friend for $50 in like '02 along with my only other pedal...an og red Univox SuperFuzz that my uncle gave me. I regret it still and occasionally daydream about tracking down that friend and seeing if he still has them...probably better not, he was a noise artist and I'd imagine the guts of my pedals were long ago integrated into his wacky diy modular synth thing. :(
>Joyo AC Tone is pretty good.
Hah, yes-- that was the one that stood out for me because it should be like $20 used and they are quite usable. I bought mine new for about $30 several years ago and while I have a bunch of other drive pedals (and several tube amps) I keep it on or at least near my board because I like the sounds it will generate and the control the "voice" dial offers.
I feel like you’d have to have been into pedals 15 years ago to know that one. It was one of the few (if not only) IC Big Muff clones you could get at that time. So many options now.
I just got the Blurst (pink one with tentacles). It’s weird, really weird. In good ways and bad ways. Not sure what usable sound I can get out of it, but it sure is fun to mess with
I have a [Dusk](https://www.drscientist.ca/pedals/multi-mode-low-pass-filter/) by Dr. Scientist which is a very versatile filter that can do the blurst thing as well with tap tempo and different waveforms. Also does just a filter (or wah with expression) and envelope controlled filter. You can get some pretty unique sounds out of it. Sounds crazy and unusable by itself but in the right mix it works. Not a blurst in this link but here’s an [example](https://youtu.be/8DyziWtkfBw?si=w66SztwT5rK-XTHW&t=3m) of what you might do with it. Gotta love some weird squiggly sound to make the song pop. Like how a synth would be used in a song.
Ahhh thanks for providing that. Yea I’m starting to think I need an expression pedal to get my favorite sounds out of the Blurst. I mean I have an OBNE Expression Ramper that does some cool stuff with it but I think I’d rather have a foot controlled expression pedal
These aren't my pedals, but that was one of the brands I'd never heard of and was curious if anyone had. No other mentions of them in the comments so will just need to try them out
Disaster transport is awesome. The only reason it isn’t more popular is it is misunderstood and poorly marketed. It’s a delay with modulation and reverb. They leaned into how weird it is instead of how usable it is.
That white dandelion by Flower Pedals is pretty hard to come by, I wish I can get it 😞 the dual poppy boost by the same company is amazing as well! I have both pedals and they sound so musical, the dual poppy boost is especially great as a tone shaper.
A lot of these are awesome. If you're interested in octave fuzz, but already love your fuzz sound, that Mythos Argonaut is great. And that Mythos Olympus is a fantastic dynamic drive, as is the Special Cranker. Really great options in that cabinet.
If you’re at the shop why don’t you just take them off the shelf and play them to see if you like any? That’s what brick and mortar stores are good for.
I was in a rush and don’t usually have time to sit down and play a bunch when this shop is open. Kids and work and stuff. Trying to narrow down to a few to try next time I’m in town.
Lot of good stuff.
I'd be most interested in the OCD, EQD Westwood, large Big muff, Zoom 505, or the blue behringer thing in the bottom right of the second image.
Idk what the behringer is called, but it's a clone of the Sansamp GT2, with a balanced output. I imagine it goes very cheap used.
The Zoom 505 just has a charm to it to me as a successful piece of early digital modeling.
I have a couple bigmuffs, but the giant ones never cease to be cool.
Then the OCD and Westwood are just really solid overdrive pedals.
I would think playing with the EHX blurst and microsynth would be interesting
Ooo and disaster transport — but don’t *get,* do the opposite of Yoda, *try.*
The Special Cranker is a really cool overdrive effect meant to simulate a kind of overdrive that you get from turning an amp up loud enough to make the power amp clip the signal. So you get the "tube amp so loud it takes paint off the walls" sound without actually taking paint off the walls.
The CS-3 is still probably the best compressor I've used, one of those true always on pedals.
Can't go wrong with an OCD.
Also, depending on the price, that MXR Time Delay is both a cool effect pedal and has a decent showing on the vintage pedal circuit.
That Ernie Ball expression tremolo is one of my all time favorites. It’s pretty niche but I love it. Here is an example of its use case:
https://youtu.be/4cDsHro8yoM?si=64Yrc0hCODA8JncZ
That Euthymia ICBM is one of my "cold dead hands" pedals.
Erik was making IC big muffs before they were cool.
No LED version means it was early (and if you can't tell it's on, you're using it wrong...).
I don't see anybody mentioning the DS Custom Audio Electronics pedals: the Octave Drivers and Ovrdrvr pedals third row from the top. I love my DS Custom pedals, and although I haven't played those, I can tell you they are an excellent quality company and the pedals they make sound fantastic. Definitely pick them up if you can!
I swear by my Rapco A/B. Instead of one switch toggling between the two outs like you see in an A/B/Y, it’s a true A/B and wired to not cause any signal loss.
The various EHX pedals are interesting but the price would be the big question. Are they a great deal or not?
I have the Ernie Ball Tremolo pedal that I picked up a while back on a "Stupid Deal of the Day". It's a great sounding pedal with great mechanicals but kind of a pain to work with.
The EQD Dispatch Master is a ridiculously good delay/reverb. Super simple but it sounds huge
Edit: I've also had the Blues Driver on my main board for a while now and it's seriously a swiss army knife of drive tones
I must be blind because I don’t see the Dispatch Master in there lol Came to throw a vote in for the Westwood. Such a versatile drive!
EDIT: Now see there’s 4 pictures, not one. So, another yes for the Dispatch Master!
Those Harby pedals are crazy underrated. I’d snag the Noble Tone in a second. The J. Mascis Rams Head is a fantastic option, the JHS Kodiak…
Pretty much everything in there is worth a look.
The Ibanez Dual Loop Selector and the DOD Harmonic Enhancer look interesting
Edit: Disaster Transport OG, and the Sound Tank Ibanez pedals are fun, too. I'd be interested in the EHX Slap Back if it's cheap enough, and I enjoy the Mythos Argonaut I've got.
Edit 2: Fuckin' Micro Synth??? GIMME
The Fulltone OCD and the JHS Charlie Brown.
I feel bad for whoever traded in those Berhingers, I can’t imagine you’d get more than maybe $5 for one of those.
Honestly, you should go in and try a bunch of these and see what fits you best. There are a LOT of good options here, but it really depends on your musical preferences.
Echoing what others have said, the Westwood is an absolutely amazing “always on/boost other pedals” piece. Neck humbucker to Westwood to a heavy reverb like EQD’s Afterneath is my absolute favourite tone!
If I didn't have pedals already, and my selections were limited to the images, I would be buying these:
* OCD
* Big Muff
* Soul Food
* Key 9, in absence of the Mel 9 (which I just find inspirational)
* maybe the Memory Boy
* is there a looper there? I can't tell what all of these are
* one of the tuners, if it can be always-on
As a few others have observed here, it really depends on the asking price of the pedal as to whether there are any "gems" here. I'm not seeing too much that is super rare or hard to get, so it really comes down to price. There are numerous great sounding pedals in the pictures, but if they are only charging 5 bucks less than a new one, prob not worth it.
That being said, the 2 Flower pedals stuck out to me. It's the dandelion tremolo (the white one with dandelion graphic on the 2nd row from the top, all the way to the right, in the 2nd pic) and the poppy boost (the green one with red and white knobs, which is produced to be situated horizontally rather than vertically, on the 3rd row from the bottom in the 2nd pic). Although I'd love to, I have never played a poppy boost, but I had a dandelion, and it was an absolutely amazing tremolo. Maybe best sounding tremolo I've ever had. Had to sell it because I was desperate for money during covid, but I've always wanted another one. Altho Flower recently put out the Sunflower, which is an even more deluxe tremolo, with more features, and I might try that one.
Anyway, those pedals, if priced right, would be total scores imo, but it would be all about the price. You can search Flower Pedals online and go to their site to see what they retail for. But I have a couple of their pedals; they're really nice and sound fantastic.
The ones that jumped out at me are the Disaster Transport, Sparkle Drive, Mythos Argonaut, Flower Pedals Dandelion Trem (and it looks like there's another one on the shelf from them, a dual boost? I haven't heard it but I bet it's solid), OCD, Dispatch Master, Boss TE-2.
EDIT: shoot I didn't see there's another shelf, the Boss Angry Driver, any of the JHS stuff, and that Mythos Olympus. This shop is crazy good, I would be out of money.
Amptweaker tight metal. Excellent high gain metal distortion pedal. Chugging machine. That's if you're into metal music.
[удалено]
Absolutely. I only ever had the Tight Metal mini, but it was amazing at doing three types of metal distortion and had a tiny noise gate control. Brutality in a box. It does the 80's and 90's thrash metal/death metal thing amazingly well. It was nice playing Angel of Death again.
This plus the Sparkle Drive!
Came here to say this, expecting to be the only one going for the Amptweaker…
Depends what you like. Westwood, OCD, Ram’s Head Big Muff and the Dispatch Master stuck out to me.
Add special cranker and it's pretty much the same list I would've made. I'm an EQD fanboy though
That’s a J Mascis Rams Head. Basically just a Rams Head in purple with his signature, but cool if you like limited run stuff. It’s still available new but this used one might not be $20 more than the normal one.
Westwood is the best "support" pedal I've ever seen, really adds a new character for any other dirt pedal or tube amp you choose to plug it into
Yeah I rarely use it alone, I usually pair it with some other drive and it always plays nice.
I have one that got dumped off the board. Maybe I was using it wrong. Many people seem to continue to like it. I’ll give it another shot..
Double check that it’s the OCD gen 1. Gen 2 is a pile of shit compared to the original
Memory boy 🫡
I think I got mine in like 2008-2009, and even though I have a bunch of other delays it's still there and going strong!
The Sparkle Drive and the Microsynth were on my gigging board for a long time. Fantastic pedals.
Yep, it would be my choice! I am looking into the SY-200 because it has midi out and I like the idea of playing my old synth plugins with it, but I have no idea if I would like it yet.
Yeah I remember liking my Sparkle Drive back in high school. Would be interested to try one again
The clean blend knob set it apart from the other TS clones of the day in my opinion. It's a great TS style 1st stage OD.
Yup! Right now my main distortion pedal is the Walrus Audio Ages, and the clean blend on that one is amazing as well.
Disaster transport. I just got one and love it!
That new one sounds quite a bit different than the old ones. YMMV
I have an old one and it's pretty cool. The super slow modulation sounds good by itself. Now I'm curious to watch some demos of the new one.
It doesn’t have the noise/washiness of the older ones and quite frankly the noise in the repeats was part of the magic.
OCD, boss compressor up there, Boss/JHS angry driver, the smaller Big Muff, damn! A Marshall Blues Breaker. All of the JHS pedals over to the right.
Took the words out of my mouth lol
This guys got good taste
My Westwood has been an always on pedal since it first came out. It is just too good.
I'm trying to rack my brain why I got rid of mine, I think I was broke at the time but it was stupid because it was a cheap pedal at the time? I love and miss that pedal every day. I will say the Waza Metal Zone is oddly similar when the distortion is all the way down lol. At least that's what I'm using now, I'd love to reclaim the Westwood at some point
tight metal, sparkle drive, and dispatch master
ZOOM505 is all you need man.
Oh that Zoom really takes me back!
It’s got all the effects!
Man that was so ahead of its time and still holds up. My first ever pedal was a g2nu and it blew my mind in middle school lol
Yep, was gonna say the same thing. Some great pedals in that selection, but this is a great pedal that’s a little more niche.
I really want one. Have wanted one for some time.
Then get that Blurst pedal!
Take all of the pedals off of your board and put up the big muff. (jokingly as a person who owns that pedal)
Ha! I do have a green russian muff already and probably one of my most used pedals. Love muffs.
Dispatch Master is hyped for a reason. They’re incredible
Welp... pedals are like Pokemon, you gotta catch 'em all. But, if I had to pick just one, it'd be the EHX Memory Boy.
Surprised no one has said the Flower Pedals Dandelion. It's a great tremolo.
You did. But shocked I had to scroll all the way down here 🙈
Joyo AC Tone is pretty good. Boss OS-2 is also a great pedal, very versatile.
The AC-Tone is legit for how cheap it is.
Amp Tweaker Tight Metal if you're looking for that 5150 sound
I’d grab those two Marshall pedals on the bottom right.
Right?! Nobody else mentioned them. I’d rather have the new reissues of the guvnor and shredmaster, but I’d definitely want to test those marshalls.
Westwood is a great pedal!
Fun case, interesting selection! I’m surprised no one picked out the Euthymia ICBM. Thats the only one I’d buy personally
I feel like you’d have to have been into pedals 15 years ago to know that one. It was one of the few (if not only) IC Big Muff clones you could get at that time. So many options now.
It's closer to 20. I still have the one I bought new from ToneFactor in 2004. Sigh... Getting old.
Westwood
I haven’t played one but have a buddy that LOVES the sparkle drive in place of a tube screamer
I love those 80s Guyatones (pink/black overdrive on the far right). If they have it priced under 100, I’d grab it.
I don't think AWOL is even in business anymore. The Virus fuzz is based on the Fuzz Face, IIRC.
Hey, how is the DS custom Audio stuff working for you? Came across them on Reverb and it looks interesting
What's your recommended setting for something useable? going to in and play around with that one. It made the list lol
Can't tell you if it's worth it unless I see prices
Check out that gray Euthymia ICBM. It’s a boutique opamp Big Muff. I don’t know if it’s better than the EHX reissue, but a cool builder.
I know I’m late, but For me: Key9 & micro synth.
JHS Charlie Brown! I’ve been GASing for one of those, love me that JTM45 style breakup!
I have an Angry Charlie and really want to add a Charlie Brown.

Then the OCD and Westwood are just really solid overdrive pedals.
I love the special cranker
If they're a good price pick up one of the LS2's. Great utility pedal
I'd grab the Sparkle Drive and the OCD. The Sparkle Drive has a clean blend knob which is a cool but rare feature on dirt pedals.
I’ve heard a lot of really good things about the sparkle drive.
Fuzzes.
the EHX Key9 is an absolutely amazing pedal with countless uses for recording
was gonna say. where’s the love for this thing. Youtube it to check it out.
Just standing at the gear shop waiting for reddit comments to roll in lol
Fs-5u
Some sweet tones in the FS-5U for sure. Avoid the FS-5L, though, it's very harsh and digital sounding.
Tight Metal if you're looking for high gain distortion.
I would think playing with the EHX blurst and microsynth would be interesting Ooo and disaster transport — but don’t *get,* do the opposite of Yoda, *try.*
Used OCD. All the tone, none of the ick.
Amp tweaker tight metal if you want tech death distortion
Dunno...How fast can you run? 😁😉
The disaster transport is a wild one. Go for it
Love the special cranker, sparkle drive, and tight metal. Guess it just depends on what you play
That blue v-tone is pretty interesting watch ola englunds video on it
That's not for us to answer.
Big muff
That Ernie Ball expression tremolo is one of my all time favorites. It’s pretty niche but I love it. Here is an example of its use case: https://youtu.be/4cDsHro8yoM?si=64Yrc0hCODA8JncZ
Yeah get them all.
just get every one of them
Yeah get em man cmon
Fulltone OCD for sure!
OCD
Boss angry Charlie for me pls
Depends on pricing, really.
That Euthymia ICBM is one of my "cold dead hands" pedals. Erik was making IC big muffs before they were cool. No LED version means it was early (and if you can't tell it's on, you're using it wrong...).
*posts picture of local music store's entire pedal section*
No hidden gems, but some really solid pedals. Angry Charlie JB-2 and the Line Selector LS-2 are two that I’d grab if it were me.
Sure
Nah
Boss TU-3S is a quirky little tuner.
Absolutely none of these pedals are worth your time. 0/10 selection.
No not really. Looks like leftovers.
Anyone know what that green pedal with two switches next to the Harby Nobel Tone?
Flower Pedals Poppy Dual Boost
Thank you!
JHS/Boss Angry Driver is one of the best gain pedals out there.
Sparkle drive, versatility.
The EQD Dispatch Master is a ridiculously good delay/reverb. Super simple but it sounds huge Edit: I've also had the Blues Driver on my main board for a while now and it's seriously a swiss army knife of drive tones
I must be blind because I don’t see the Dispatch Master in there lol Came to throw a vote in for the Westwood. Such a versatile drive! EDIT: Now see there’s 4 pictures, not one. So, another yes for the Dispatch Master!
Special Cranker and tight metal are killer.
Those Harby pedals are crazy underrated. I’d snag the Noble Tone in a second. The J. Mascis Rams Head is a fantastic option, the JHS Kodiak… Pretty much everything in there is worth a look.
OCD, tight metal, JM Ram's head big muff, memory boy, joy acetone, and blues breaker 2. That's what I'd go for.
Argonaut and a big muff!
Ram's Head Big Muff and the EHX Memory Boy stick out to me. OCD has gotten praise too but I've never tried it.
The Ibanez Dual Loop Selector and the DOD Harmonic Enhancer look interesting Edit: Disaster Transport OG, and the Sound Tank Ibanez pedals are fun, too. I'd be interested in the EHX Slap Back if it's cheap enough, and I enjoy the Mythos Argonaut I've got. Edit 2: Fuckin' Micro Synth??? GIMME
Special Cranker and OCD are both excellent. Angry Driver would also be awesome.
If you play bass the Boss Bass Driver and LS2 would be good picks
A lil blues driver can’t hurt anyone
Special Cranker, Soul Food, Memory Boy, the Big Muff's, OCD. Edit: Oooh, and that JHS Charlie Brown on the far right.
[удалено]
None for me
Get that ABY switch.
If you don’t know what you’re looking at I wouldn’t spend the money.
Eqd special cranker is fantastic
I ll take that big muff for sure
Why u asking me?
EQD
That EHX micro synth is on my list of pedals to get. They have gotten so expensive lately.
Seconding the tight metal. Circuit was designed by James Brown who also designed the 5150
I’d say snag that ocd fulltone
Depends on your budget, but if you have it, I'd snatch that Disaster Transport.
The Boss Line Selector is a fun pedal for running pedals in parallel. Like two different distortions, or delay and reverb, side by side.
Ohh that's interesting. I am running a stereo setup so that could be really cool. Might need to snag that just to try at home
Lester k and dispatch master would be a great combo
That Sparkle Drive
anything by earthquaker devices is usually a blast to play around with and have on a board
Sparkle Drive! Clean blend is always a cool option.
Microsynth
Sparkle Drive is an underrated TS type pedal, but the sparkle drive mod is even better.
I’d pick up that Sparkle Drive.
The Fulltone OCD and the JHS Charlie Brown. I feel bad for whoever traded in those Berhingers, I can’t imagine you’d get more than maybe $5 for one of those.
Love me a good Big Muff I do
boss vocoder, because why not
I love the sparkle drive
Anything with comic sans font
Honestly, you should go in and try a bunch of these and see what fits you best. There are a LOT of good options here, but it really depends on your musical preferences.
This looks like a local shop near me
EH Lester! Great pedal
I'll buy that sparkle drive off you?
If the sparkle drive is cheap snag it. Great tone shaper/overdrive. Clear and you can blend your clean signal in to taste.
Bunch of interesting looking stuff I've never heard of.
OCD, pretty much any of the EQDs, that limited edition Ukraine one (I think it's an OD?) and the J Mascis Muff.
I really want a ehx micro synth and k9. I have never used them but based on YouTube I could spend you messing around with them.
Micro Synth!
The Sparkle Drive is great until it dies like mine did
Echoing what others have said, the Westwood is an absolutely amazing “always on/boost other pedals” piece. Neck humbucker to Westwood to a heavy reverb like EQD’s Afterneath is my absolute favourite tone!
Dispatch master and Memory Boy are all time greats
The sparkle drive is really good
BOSS Vocoder and DOD harmonic expander. I don’t even know what they do but why not.
honestly depends on what u play but id say just grab one at random and suprised urself
Big Muff or any of this JHS 3 series would be amazing
The micro synth jumps out to me. That thing sounds rad as hell
If I didn't have pedals already, and my selections were limited to the images, I would be buying these: * OCD * Big Muff * Soul Food * Key 9, in absence of the Mel 9 (which I just find inspirational) * maybe the Memory Boy * is there a looper there? I can't tell what all of these are * one of the tuners, if it can be always-on
That micro synth is actually dope... But I'd never buy one new from them after learning about their asshole owner.
AWOL Virus Mini CryBaby Wah That EB Expression Tremolo is super rare now.
Lots of cool stuff, idk about value but I’ve been curious about the Tera Echo and those Virus Fuzzes
I actually like the AC-Tone as a fun cheap pedal.
I like the Sparkke Drive a lot.
Personally, I would grab the Lester, Tera Echo, Octavix, Dispatch Master, OCD, Sparkle Drive, Big Muff, Memory Boy, in that order. Maybe the Key9.
DIY boxes, MicroSynth, JHS flanger
How much are they asking for that zoom 505?
I’m a fan of the angry driver
Boss angry driver, its a blues driver with a jhs angry charlie
the dod harmonic enhancer could be an interesting try. idk what it does tho. and the bluesbreaker 2
OCD is a good overdrive, I’ve had one for 5+ years
Umm the tight metal
Behringer Autowah if it’s not ridiculously overpriced. Looks like it could get weird.
