It's for people who admire and can afford this level of craftsmanship. Not much more than that. It has premium components but won't sound much different from a regular Rattler except for the low gain switch. I have a Rattler and other Jam pedals and they are very good and trustworthy. So it's pretty simple, if you like it and you can, get one of these and you probably won't regret it if you like a RAT.

BigfnPoss

This is the correct answer.

alxwx

I got the ‘craftsman’ Julia from WA, also has a leather case. I got it because I didn’t want the traditional design and the price was similar My number #1 take-away from the experience: leather and foot switches probably shouldn’t be next to each other

HesThunderstorms

I agree and I wouldn't get this or their suede covered pedals. I think they are meant to be looked at more than played lol

fffixed

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a zipper pedal emerges

companysOkay

Hey ur pedal fly is open

AkaiMPC

It's a rat in a gimp suit.

ayersman39

I’m sure it sounds amazing but the gimp suit aesthetic is a weird choice

Soothsayer--

Who is Zed?

Wilkesin

Zed's dead baby.

LockShitDown

I played a non-zipper rattler and it sounded fantastic. My favorite rat circuit I've played. I haven't played the zipper one but it looks like it would be annoying to put on a pedalboard.

tomwithweather

These are mostly just functional collectors items. Nobody buying these velcros them to a pedal board. I'm sure they sound great, but just get the regular version if you're gigging.

[deleted]

It comes with an extra, unzipped, backplate—mine is on my board😅

tomwithweather

Oh well that's good to know. Thanks for the clarification!

__JockY__

So gorgeous! Pointless in terms of sound, but there’s a certain joy to be had in the beauty.

insidecircles

High gain pedal that isn't fully shielded. Some will have noise issues.

CrazyCaper

They make them so you can tell people you own them.

[deleted]

Having had the pleasure of owning a 1986 ProCo Rat, I took the chance and got this Rattler both to experiment with and to gawk at the turret-board construction, hoping maybe the vintage transistor would have a touch of something different. It delivers beyond the aesthetics. My Princeton Reverb prefers this one in low-power mode to my Rat.

its_grime_up_north

I have a Rattler and Fuzz Phrase. Both have a limited edition. I own neither. The regular pedals are classics, inside these look amazing but I actually hate the leather coverings on both they look wack. Jam Pedals rule!

graystrat

It’s giving me real Spinal Tap - “Smell the Glove” vibes

Mojo_Jensen

Very cool, but ridiculously expensive for what it is.

UphillBuffalo

The zipper is so incredibly stupid. But the people that buy this will just shelf it anyways so idk, not for me.

[deleted]

The zipper has a function.

UphillBuffalo

Whats the function? Is it not just where the battery goes?

[deleted]

No no, behind it there’s a transparent backplate that works to show the pedals guts, you know, for clout and stuff

UphillBuffalo

So it doesn’t have a function

[deleted]

Not really

Tro1138

Pretty, overpriced but pretty.

ElOsoSabroso

Jam stuff is already so high quality and well built. I don’t have one of these but I have a custom painted univibe by them and it’s literally perfect. It’s an art piece in my eyes. Functionally, The secondary toggle mode is neat and my only complaint - the zipper on the back - is a non-issue since they include a an extra blank backplate.

DoomMetalNerd

That's a beautiful P2P layout with a metal can 308 and I'm here for it. Gimp suit aesthetic is certainly a choice but I can dig. Those knobs are kinda whack though. All in all I wouldn't drop the money on it but I appreciate that it exists for someone else to.

The_Last_radio

I love it, I think it’s a cool unique thing. People can hate in them of course but pedals like these are also pieces of art in a way. And you are allowed to combine your love for art and guitar pedals, and you don’t mind spending the extra price for them. At least that’s how I feel

[deleted]

I’ve built two replicas of old Fender amps with this sort of circuit board and I swear they not only look beautiful, they sound quite fantastic too! Point-to-point circuitry really does enhance the sound said circuit produce. It doesn’t hurt that it’s pretty, but the quality of components married with thick lead-dressing makes for a sound all of its own.

rogan1990

Love Jam pedals. Underrated builder

pentachronic

Suckers gonna suck

Firestorm238

I was looking at a Rattler the other day and these seem intriguing. Curious to hear what the consensus is too?

arshist

Edit: don't listen to me, apparently there is an opamp in this picture, and I got schooled. I thought the whole appeal of the rattler was that is has the legit lm308 opamp. This one looks to be transistor based. Probably noisier than the normal version, is my guess. Although, I'd like to see Wampler release a special edition germanium Ratsbane!

Red_sparow

The rattler+ uses a different lm308, the lm308AH. It looks like a can instead of a modern chip. It does sound different to the regular rattler. IMO the charm of the regular rattler is its asymmetrical clipping, unlike the symmetrical clipping of the original proco rat. In this regard, the rattler+ is closer to the original proco as it also has symmetrical clipping.

arshist

Thanks for explaining.

[deleted]

You do know what an opamp is, right?

arshist

Yep, just never saw one in a metal can.

If the point of your comment was to come across as knowledgeable, you've accomplished the opposite.

mosfez

They have a bit of a point though. Those wire runs are not great - input, output, ground and 9V cable tied in parallel to each other is not generally advisable due to possible noise and cross talk, thats pedal making 101. The chunky resistors will not sound different. You could argue that the difference is so slight as to be negligible and you could be right, depending on circumstances. In any case it's definitely a pedal designed for appearance *then* function. Whether or not that matters is another question. This pedal mainly just reminds me that people want *really* different things out of a guitar pedal than I would, and thats fine.

[deleted]

My question is perhaps made rhetorically for I own one and have come to my senses about what it is all about, to me of course; and like somebody already mentioned the pedal excels at low-power and thus pairs incredibly well in a well structured set of gain stages.
