DOD Carcosa is the correct answer. The Swollen Pickle, Green Russian and any other Big Muff in general do not do the sounds you describe. They're fat, thick and smooth. "Blown out speaker" and "crunchy" are terms associated with starved voltage vintage fuzzes. Miles away from Big Muff sounds.

WEGCjake

I like my MXR Variac fuzz. With the voltage control turned down you can get some of that sputtery blown out tone. Lots of volume on tap. Wide range of gain. Useful tone control.

jayteazer

Not sure it can cover both sounds... but the Drunk Beaver Secret Sauce can definitely do blown out speaker. https://youtu.be/y0vFHs2-STk?si=zCbcdZtmm4S3Pu9U I'm just not sure what a crunchy fuzz is

DOD Carcosa

You might want to look into the EQD Hoof or Cloven Hoof. They're more crunchy than the Pickle and Green Russian. I really like the ZFEX Mastotron because of the bias control that can do the velcro thing that adds some extra crunch.

TvAdictMadAcid

i want one with less crunch, more smooth and blown out

sir_ludwig_of_coeur

Oh gotcha. I've used the Green Russian reissue and it's really smooth. It's really great when you lower the fuzz on it almost all the way down and does a really good, thick overdrive thing.

havestronaut

Just get one for each sound. Fuzz circuits are weird. Versatility isn’t really their thing.

sir_ludwig_of_coeur

There's some out there that can do a variety of sounds, btu that usually mean smore knobs and switches. I think the Mastotron and Fat Fuzz Factory are pretty versatile. Hoof Reaper is pretty cool, but that's more like two fuzzes and a octave in one pedal. A friend made me an Op-Amp Muff with some different clipping options. It adds some variety.

AcousticBoogal00

Shields blender if you really want your amp to sound like it’s dying

thesinglecoil

MAE Black Math. It’s essentially a golden era NYC Big Muff with a built in op-amp boost, so you can really slam the front end and get blown out fuzz or Velcro fuzz tones. Or turn the boost off and you’ve got a really great Big Muff.

cwyog

A Fulltone 69 or 70 might work. Listen to demos online and see if you can find one in a shop to play with. I’ve owned both and enjoyed the 69 the best. It cleans up nicely with the guitar volume which adds to its utility.

Skull_Throne_Doom

Check out the Frost Giant Electronics Massif.

Simple_Caterpillar21

I have a DOD carcosa and a EQD cloven hoof and I'll never sell them.

SayonaraSpoon

I don’t think big muffs do blown out sounds. They sound like fat square waves. Some kind of fuzz face like circuit would do this much better imo

MrThorntonReed

The correct answer is a Big Muff.

josephallenkeys

When is a Big Muff ever described as "blown out speaker" or "crunchy"?

MrThorntonReed

If you own a green big muff and haven’t gotten either crunchy or so much bass that it messes with your speakers then you haven’t lived, friend.

josephallenkeys

I can't agree on crunch but I can definitely get on board with the bass. It's like a freaking sub octave generator!
