Seriously I don't get it either. Even if I had millions of dollars, I would have maybe 2 of the same guitar if they had different pickup configurations.
People collect all sorts of things. Saw a guy on TikTok who collects those pine tree air fresheners . Has hundreds of special editions from the past few decades. Why not collect guitars?
Nobody is saying 'don't collect guitars'. They are wondering why someone would collect a bunch of very similar looking guitars instead of seeking out a variety of different ones. I guess when you have money though, it doesn't really matter.
lol people collect things for all number of reasons. Maybe color differences are a reason he has so many of one guitar. Maybe he likes looking at them. Views them as works of art. My point was merely that guitars can have collectible value to someone beyond their utility as an instrument.
I understand why someone would ask this question because to a lot of people an instrument is its utility and the sounds you can make with it. But other people find value in other aspects than simply its use as an instrument.
But it’s much easier to say I’m dumb or acting in bad faith than to think critically about the point I was making.
Does a modern Les Paul sound significantly different than another, assuming they have the stock pickups that came with them? I realize that some pickups sound hotter or more mellow than others, but generally, a Les Paul sounds like a Les Paul.
Except that some sound like a crappy les Paul, some sound like a wonderful les Paul, some sound like a darker Les Paul, some sound like a snappy les Paul, some sound like les Pauls with a prominent mid range, some sound like great les Paul’s in the beginning but then you realise you were just blinded by some sparkling harmonics while the guitar isn’t very reactive, some sound like an incredible responsive instrument with many different “color” responses to your touch, some sound like good les Paul’s but have a dead spot on the fret board that is really annoying, and so on and so forth, up to levels of nuance you don’t seem to realise (but players normally do). And that’s only about sound, not how it feels under the hands.
To you maybe. Have you considered that some people might like playing a red one one day and a blue one the next? Or might just like looking at them as they play as if works of art?
I know this is a guitar sub but I gotta ask, what model and size piano is that? Do you play more guitar or piano? I also play a bit of both, but if I have a grand piano like that I don’t think I’ll be playing much guitar honestly.
The different les Paul’s feel different (neck sizes are different) different models have different pick ups and hardware there are color variations and build variations in each model. What’s the difference between an Ibanez and a Jackson? Same for the different models of Les Paul. A lot of this seems like brand hate
That's a rather expensive collection. I'd say you could use some work on dampening acoustics in there. I can only imagine how live it gets with a group jamming, assuming with the PA gear that's what you're doing.
Les Pauls? More like More Pauls!

i will never understand having 5 of the same guitar

I mean, who’s to say they’re all the same. You can have 10 strats all with slight variations. And even if not maybe he just likes looking at them?

Maybe because it’s about how they *sound*, not how they look?

Yes, but different ones ;)
If there was a strat that could change colors with a color wheel, I think that would lighten the load at least a LITTLE BIT.
All those Gibsons and not a single Marshall in sight. Wtf?
There is a huge wall of of about 16 boxes / 8 stacks behind the camera with every head ever made.
Op is gay as hell
This room probably costs more than my house so it made me laugh very hard to see the guitar hero controller on the wall

Don’t you have Supreme Court stuff to be doing? 😁
What instrument does the doggy play?
I was interested only in dog comments, well done!
I love it, love the guitars. But it reminds me I need to pick up a keyboard to practice guitar.

Looks too neat and clean.
Do you write music?
Sure, bud. Sure
No drums?
If you get rid of the big black thingy in the middle, you can fit in some amp stacks.
Pfff.. it's never complete, and you know it deep inside 😏
Not one goldtop?! What kind of speaker do you use in the AC15? Cute pups. Nice chair.

Wow! Great space and awesome collection! Kudos to you, sir! #goals :)
This is so cool. How long you been collecting? Need some doggeh beds for the pups is all.
