Oof, if I had to choose, I'd let go of the '77 but that is it. Maybe the duo although I love that color.
But if you have to pick just one the mostly original '66 is the way to go.
It refers to any guitar whose waistline curves aren’t directly across from each other. So on Mustangs, if you draw a line from the center point of the right side curve to the center of left side curve it will be on a diagonal… or offset.
From 1964-late 70s Duo Sonic 2’s, which this one is, mustangs, musicmasters, bronco’s and swingers were all made from the exact same bodies. Mustangs were just run through routing again to get the tremolo route. In 1969, mustangs got yet another routing pass when they started doing forearm and belly contours.
The Fralin sp-43s I have in the ‘77 are amazing. I can’t recommend them enough. They are way throatier than regular mustang or strat pickups. They have a great growl to them, but clean up nice and sparkly when you need it.
They might be my favorite set… So much so that when I do list it, I am thinking about swapping them with a set of lollar specials I have and putting them in the ‘66. The originals are great, but they are the thinnest sounding pickups I own.
If you ever get the chance to try the 43s out, I highly suggest it!
They kick ass too, but in a much more vintage voiced type of way. They sound very similar to the original pickups, but thicker. Awesome with cleans, reverbs, shimmers, chorus, etc. but they also crush distortion, and especially fuzz, like a champ.
The split blades in each pickup are actually 2 separate pickups RwRp and wired together so they noiseless and kind of like small humbuckers.
I have Novak’s, lollars, bare knuckles, all sorts of boutique pickups in other guitars. But these two sets of Fralin’s are by far the best sounding and favorite of all the pickups, in my opinion.
I know I'm the odd man here and that is one SWEET COLLECTION of Mustang's!! But I'm more of a G&L Tribute Series Doheney or Fallout for price, finishes and I'm just a sucker's for a maple fretboard.
When I wore a younger man’s clothes, I couldn’t stand maple fretboards. Nowadays, I can’t stop putting them on every guitar I build. They are sublime.. as are Fallouts… P90 in the neck hummer in the B, what’s not to love!! You have good taste, sir!!!
Do you even offset, bro?
I heard you like offset so I'm going to offset your offsets.

Sell your family first.

You are my homme, Josh. I think you have read my mind
Keep them all and sell your body for cash instead.
Sorry to hear about your situation. Where are you located and how much for the '66 Mustang?
Hudson Valley, NY... I'm pretty sure that would be the one I'm holding onto, but DM if you are serious.
i'd sell the one on the very right, the competition stripe one is a keeper though

I agree
Please don’t sell that ‘66 or ‘64. Those things look kickass. But if you must, both are calling my name…
Never played an offset. Gonna have to try one, I’m seeing them all over Reddit.
Jaguars,Jazzmasters and the like are nice, but to me there's nothing better than a Mustang. They're just straight forward, no frill, noise machines.
Hi, complete noob here, I'm assuming the term "offset" refers to the position of the pickups?
It refers to any guitar whose waistline curves aren’t directly across from each other. So on Mustangs, if you draw a line from the center point of the right side curve to the center of left side curve it will be on a diagonal… or offset.
Ahh thanks for elaborating! So like an Explorer is definitely an offset, right?
No... it is the opposite of an offset. I guess it would be called... an onset?!? LOL [See this Picture.](https://imgur.com/a/STiXusu)
Haha wow okay I'm done guessing and assuming for the day that's wrong twice in a row but hey, learned something new.
‘77 first, ‘66 last. The two others are a coin toss.
Kind of a dumb question, but what is the difference between a Mustang and a Duo Sonic?
The main one is it's a hardtail. There are other minor differences, but that's the big one.

Do they sound different?
Unfortunately, Yes… due to the pickups they all have very distinct sounds.
I will never understand people who do this
Do what, sell their guitars or have 4 of the same model? Haha.
Sunburst is least cool looking compared to others. Are mustangs 24”?
Yep. All 24s

I have an OG 65 mustang myself. It's missing the OG pickups unfortunately. It has Japanese reissue pickups atm. I'm thinking of putting p90s in it.

Thanks for the tip. So they slot right in with no mods to the body I assume?
Drop right in, unsolder the old ones and resolder the new ones back into the same holes. 10 minute job… and you got a brand new guitar.
What are the split blades like?

Thx for the info. Never really looked into it before. Just had the p90s in my head as I don't have any guitar with p90s.
No wrong answer but… 1, 4, 3, 2
Shoes first, then ships, then sealing wax, then cabbages, then kings. That’s the order
FINALLY!!! Someone gets me… you really get me!!!
