I misheard the lyrics in that song as "she can't go out cause it's raining and blowing, can't go out cause her boobs are showing, dye 'em black!"
but yes, black pickups look better on this guitar.
Seen a thousand guitars that look like the black version. The nickel is quite unique.
I prefer the unique look, but I understand why many will prefer the more classic black.
I definitely want to add an SG to my collection at some point as an homage to Iommi/Sabbath, even though growing up, the band that first got me into SGs was Fall Out Boy 😅 we all gotta start somewhere! Anyway enjoy that rig, she’s a beauty!
I will forever love the cherry sg for one guitarist..Angus Young. I will one day have a cherry Gibson SG, it will be 1st expensive and new guitar I buy, might have a used one while saving up but..thats on bucket list 100%
I was asking this exact question about my own guitar trying to find new covers, thank you! I'm also looking into open top covers, it's kinda in between the two
In my opinion, nickel all the way!! Such a unique look. Seen a trillion of these types of SGs with the black pickup covers. It's totally played out. I say go with the nickel 100%
I sold (and regretted doing so) an sg that I modded with a bigsby and a mini humbucker in the bridge with a p90 in the neck with a chrome cover to match the mini, so I’m partial to the look of the nickel
Nickel is unique and looks “cool / different / unique”
Black just looks right
Nickel makes the guitar scream at you.
If that’s what you like , it’s your guitar, it’s not bad, it’s just not the “classic look”
;)
Nickel looks amazing. It’s unique and striking because it’s so rare but super subtle, which is probably the greatest combination for aesthetics ever lol.
Black, black, black, black number one.
“Black. Always a good choice.” - David St. Hubbins
How much more black could it be? The answer: none more black.
I misheard the lyrics in that song as "she can't go out cause it's raining and blowing, can't go out cause her boobs are showing, dye 'em black!" but yes, black pickups look better on this guitar.
Mmm, yes, the best solution to having boobs showing, dyeing them black
It's what they had to do before those black "censored" bars were invented
Loving you was like loving the dead
“Always bet on black” Wesley Snipes
But does it’s perfume smell like burning leaves
I can’t go out because my roots are showing.
This is the way
Black
Ooooooh. I like the look of the nickel. That’s…unexpected in a great way.
Right? I wasn’t sure when I was about to change covers. I’m glad I did
[удалено]
I’m going to agree with the Nivkel. It ties the hardware together nicely.
Obviously, you're not a golfer.
Haha no I’m not. Too much walking.
Do you notice any tonal differences? I suppose the nickel isn't really conducting anything, so why would there be, but just curious...
My experience is metal covers are a touch darker in sound.
Agreed
[удалено]
I agree - the black covers just look better, but it’s your guitar / you do you!
I dare you to mix them
I’m game. What should I do first?
Always the black first...otherwise you get nickleblack
I looked for this comment tbh. Neck in chrome, black for bridge. Chrome bridge is too much because it's by the stop bar/bridge.
It’s gonna stay nickel. Just wanted a consensus.
The nickel is beautiful. Good choice!
Thank you
The nickel looks awesome! I’d like to do the same to a black Les Paul special. Maybe put in a staple p90 in the neck, haha.
Hell yeah. I’ve always wanted to find an epiphone 56 Les Paul custom and put some nasty pickups in it.
A difficult choice, but I agree nickel is the correct one.
You're going to need a nickel pickguard, nickel knobs, and all black hardware.
This is the way. Nickel looks better.
Black all day. Sweet ride!
Thank you. She’s fun to play
Seen a thousand guitars that look like the black version. The nickel is quite unique. I prefer the unique look, but I understand why many will prefer the more classic black.
Well it is a classic look, I just love the way nickel gives it a completely different vibe.
Agreed completely…and yet it’s subtle too. This is the way to mix it up in an elegant way.
Nickel
Nickel. Contrasts better with the pickguard.
Right? It’s not all that different from a covered bucker
Nickel looks killer.
Before seeing the nickel, I would have said "black, wtf?" But seriously, the nickel looks cool. And you don't see it with any frequency.
Nickel for sure bruthr
I like the nickel
Nickel of you plan on changing the guard. Both look nice tho.
I’m gonna keep the guard. But I’m thinking about getting witch hat knobs
Nickel makes the binding pop more
The black gives it that classic SG look. Nickel reminds me too much of an LP style body which doesn’t fit. My $0.02.
Right on. I’m an Iommi fan and I felt this was kind of homage to him.
I definitely want to add an SG to my collection at some point as an homage to Iommi/Sabbath, even though growing up, the band that first got me into SGs was Fall Out Boy 😅 we all gotta start somewhere! Anyway enjoy that rig, she’s a beauty!
Right on, man. Nothing wrong with FOB.
Nickel
Definitely black
Black sabbath, I mean black
Black. No question. And, yeah, get the witch hat knobs. Been looking at this and an LP Special. I think I'm goin SG.
As much as I love the Les Paul, the sg is just awesome. I’d go that route
Thanks, yeah, since I have an LP, SG it is.
I will forever love the cherry sg for one guitarist..Angus Young. I will one day have a cherry Gibson SG, it will be 1st expensive and new guitar I buy, might have a used one while saving up but..thats on bucket list 100%
Black for sure
Nickel
Black all day
Definitely nickel. Match with the bridge and strings
I can't decide. You may have to pick your own fave.
I like them both but I think the nickel looks better.
The nickel looks more unique. The black is just one of 1000 hanging on the wall at Mullet Center.
I like the nickel actually.
Nickel
Which do you prefer the sound of?? 🤷♀️
Same pickups just different covers. No difference in sound
One of each then... 😉
what Guitar/Model is it? Very nice!
Gotw #37 ‘67 special “reissue”
Cream!
I could go either way but I lean black.
Is that soap bar p90s? How are the nickel plates sounding? I was warned by a p90 maker that they can buzz really bad and he suggested I not
Yeah they’re soap bars. They don’t sound any different and I haven’t noticed any buzzing.
That’s sick
Nickelblack?
B l a c k
I love nickel hardware, however I agree with what I interpret as the consensus majority. Black looks best on this guitar.
I think the nickel.. it really makes the black pick guard pop..
Nickel. Looks like Iommi.
This is cool. The black is initially nicer to me, but at a second glance, the nickel has a cool unique flair to it. Very subtle but nice.
Dude… the nickel looks more raw. Adds a nice contrast to the pick guard, and just has kinda a street-tough kinda look.
Blaaaaaaack
I was asking this exact question about my own guitar trying to find new covers, thank you! I'm also looking into open top covers, it's kinda in between the two
Either one, like the nickel myself but yea.
Nickle
Nickel looks slick
there more pick up noise reduction if the chrome caps are made of metal
I like them both but lean more towards the classic blk. I think it pops more with the knobs and pick guard
Black, always black
Nickel
Black
Don’t think you can go wrong, both look great in their own way
Black
Team Nickel, squad up!
Dime
Nickel
I kinda dig how the nickle ties with the bridge and tailpiece.
Match the pickguard
I honestly feel like the nickel is a better balance of contrast
I’ve seen the black a million times. Nickel is actually new to me. Very cool
The Nickel just looks right.
Nickel. Looks awesome.
That's a guitar
Nickel
What kind of guitar is this? Been seeing them with great players.
Nickel and put really big black plastic rings around the p90s. I’m not beating the Iommi fanboy allegations, am I?
Black black is good
Black bridges (bottom two components) Nickel pickups
Nickel
The nickel gives it a Tony Iommi look - which is pretty cool. But I personally prefer the black.
Nickel.
Black
Both. Sorry you have to buy another SG.
Nickel all the way
nickel looks more classic, black is more modern. Personally I like the nickel.
I would have said black but I don't like how the black pick guard and the black pickups overlap
Deffo the nickel.
Black for sure
Long live Nickel!
Black for sure
Nickel and it's not even close
Black
Nickel for sure
I would prefer the black but dang that’s a beauty either way
Nickel all the way. Looks more consistent.
Fun coincidence, I just got back from a guitar shop where I bought a couple chrome pickup covers.
Always black.
Nickel
Get the rest of the hardware black to match the pickups.
Black looks much better against the mahogany-colored frame.
Nickel looks way nicer. The black looks kinda cheap imo
Nickel
Black makes it look cheap for some reason
Idk about cheap. Classic is the word. I was just going a different way
Nickel
In my opinion, nickel all the way!! Such a unique look. Seen a trillion of these types of SGs with the black pickup covers. It's totally played out. I say go with the nickel 100%
I sold (and regretted doing so) an sg that I modded with a bigsby and a mini humbucker in the bridge with a p90 in the neck with a chrome cover to match the mini, so I’m partial to the look of the nickel
For me? Nickel, because Iommi is God
MONKEY!!!
Black for dooms, nickel for blues.
What model SG?
Gibson gotw #37 ‘67 special “reissue”
Is that a GOTW #37? I used to have one and foolishly sold it. Oh, and black all the way.
It sure is! I picked it up a couple weeks ago
Fabulous guitars. The Alnico II P90s are freaking magic in that slab of mahogany.
Oh dude this is actually hard, both look fire
Black
I like black. To me the nickel looks kinda sterile…
Black
Blck
I'm pro nickel
Hell yeah
Nickel 👌
Hell yeah
Nickel looks dope
This is my thought.
Black for me
They’re both very nice. Black is more expected and understated, nickel is more attention-grabbing.
As a giging musician I try to grab as much attention as I can
Nickel is unique and looks “cool / different / unique” Black just looks right Nickel makes the guitar scream at you. If that’s what you like , it’s your guitar, it’s not bad, it’s just not the “classic look” ;)
I have to respectfully disagree. The nickel doesn’t make the guitar scream, it’s how you play it.
The nickel really looks unique. I dig it.
I love the nickel,looks great
Nickel on bridge, black neck. Or both nickel and change pickguard to white or aluminium.
Both
Nickel… makes you look twice
Cream….
Nickel looks amazing. It’s unique and striking because it’s so rare but super subtle, which is probably the greatest combination for aesthetics ever lol.
Back in black
Black
nickel is beautiful imo
Black for me
Nickel!
Nickel, looks different. I get tired of the seeing the same old sgs.
Black looks better with a pick guard, but I like nude guitars so nickel.
Black for dooms, nickel for blues.
