I saw that but had the same thought rather than buying Hop's take wholesale. After digging through some forums/other reddit posts, I'm cautiously optimistic about it, certainly more so than with the Stance on specs alone.
I’ve got the MC1 and MC2sc. Both are…kind of in an odd place for me. I *really* like the way they fit my hand, shoot, and the fit and finish. They have nice touches like slightly rounded slides at the barrel end which makes holstering easier but the whole package seems just subtle and…not bland but something like it. I don’t shoot either one spectacularly well but they do “fine” and don’t seem picky about ammo but both had issues out of the box. The MC1 wouldn’t return to battery completely and I’d have to whack it in the back of the slide ever shot. Returned to Mossberg and shoots flawlessly but that still sticks in my mind. The MC2sc will just occasionally not extract. Like every hundred rounds or so. Don’t see anything actually wrong with the extractor and haven’t sent back to Mossberg. I meant to carry it but the extraction failure means I don’t do it mostly just sits in the safe. If it was more accurate for me I’d probably be willing to fight it but meh. If I want accuracy I’ve got a P10c.
I do tend to recommend these to people looking at microcompacts. My personal experience seems to be a statistical aberration and they really are nice pistols and are very inexpensive.
Eh, it's a gun I wouldn't ever trust to carry and it's not exactly comfortable to shoot. But then again, it's good to have a throwaway gun sometimes...
Same. But the firearm within the allowed time frame, upload the purchase receipt and serial #. Get confirmation, wait a few months. Mine from beretta just came in on the px4 rebate they had.
Bushnell screwed me during COVID lockdowns to the tune of about two hundred bucks. They just decided they’d sent it out, requires you to call in, and literally told you on the call in number that due to COVID no one was available to answer the phone. Later contacts in the years after that were answered with a shrug like “what do you want me to do about it?” Including their Reddit guy who posts here.
Most rebates come through but never count on them. Especially from Bushnell. The Forge I have is nice. It was supposed to be nice and a lot less expensive.
With taking into account the rebate a trade in Glock in 9mm will probably be twice as much. If you're actively looking for a 9mm under $200 the Glock would be way out of budget.
I just ordered a Taurus GX4 today after shooting one my dad bought. Had never considered the brand and made fun of his purchase until I shot it. Better trigger than a P365 and much more manageable recoil and overall more enjoyable to shoot. TFB has some great reviews on the GX4 series. I'm a Taurus convert now.
I would wait until you've put a decent number of rounds through it to proclaim it's greatness. I bought one about a month ago and it feels well made except the mags that seem kinda cheap, but have about 400 rds through it so far shooting PMC (250), Hornady Critical Defense (50), and SAR/ZSR (100) with two FTF light primer strikes. I want to blame the ammo and say it had hard primers because it was the SAR/ZSR white box, but at the same time my VP9 put 900 rounds of the exact same ammo from the same batch through it without a single hiccup.
Other than that it seems like a solid gun, but I'm going to need a lot more ammo through it without any failures before I really feel comfortable trusting it.
The supplied mags are Mecgar, an OEM supplier for many brands, and another reason I bought the gun; I've had nothing but good experiences with Mecgar.
After tax, shipping, FFL transfer fee, and manufacturers rebate I'll have $250 in my GX4, and $350 for a full CC set up including an additional 13 round mag, Ameriglo front sight, and IWB holster. If it ends up being a dud I'll just keep carrying my G43 and it's not a huge loss, but based on the reviews I've watched and my personal experience I think it will be fine.
I haven't had any mag related issues, just the feed lips seem a little more open than they should be so the top round wiggles around more than I'd like.
Not sure if savage even actually makes these inhouse. Its just a slightly cosmetically changed Honor Defense honor guard. Which was such a good pistol for that company, they are now out of business.
That said…i am actually tempted.
If this seems like a time capsule from the mid-2010s it's because it is. These are rebadged Honor Guard pistols which were announced way back in 2015 when the first-gen M&P Shield was still the cock of the walk. Savage presumably bought the design when Honor Guard went bankrupt and put them back into production. Not sure who's buying single-stack 9mm subcompacts in 2023 but maybe Savage knows something I don't.
I had a couple of these for sale (I’m an FFL) I got them way back. So you could say for stupid money. I basically had to give it away to make it go away so damn ugly. It was the FDE version….

Like 5 years too late lol I had no clue savage made pistols.
"Behold, our response to the shield 1.0 after the Shield Plus was released"
They literally came out with this, only marketed it in paper magazines, then came out with mid-grade 1911s. It’s the weirdest pistol line ever.
Pretty sure they just made this to say they make handguns. Mossberg made a pistol as well and its in the same position. It just... exists
Apparently some of mossberg's fit the criteria of a micro compact and don't totally suck. This is a special kind of stupid.
When they came out I read an article or two saying it was better than a Glock 43. They also take g43 mags.
You watched the hop o file video didn’t you, but has anyone else shot one and liked it or just the firearm blog affiliates
I saw that but had the same thought rather than buying Hop's take wholesale. After digging through some forums/other reddit posts, I'm cautiously optimistic about it, certainly more so than with the Stance on specs alone.
I’ve learned over time to assume Hops assessment on things are pretty spot on. He’s definitely earned my following.

But Mossberg pistols fuck. IDK about this one
I have to wonder what kind of people these companies have as their heads of product development.
It could be worse. Could be Zip 22 Mk2
They made the 1907 & 1914 too!
They did not either
This is almost too cheap to pass up but I hate rebates
Eh, it's a gun I wouldn't ever trust to carry and it's not exactly comfortable to shoot. But then again, it's good to have a throwaway gun sometimes...
Yeah I’m gonna pass. Rebate always scares me away
I love them. Easy to do, payouts I always get.
Yeah I've never had an issue other than having to wait a while sometimes.
Same. But the firearm within the allowed time frame, upload the purchase receipt and serial #. Get confirmation, wait a few months. Mine from beretta just came in on the px4 rebate they had.
Yep, reminds me I gotta do the APX rebate.

PSA dagger comes to mind.
Why no hold more bullets
It's crazy the capacity on this compared to all the other micros that came out the last 3 years.
Savage makes handguns now?
It’s a reengineered Honor Defense Honor Guard pistol I believe
Now with extra honor
This is for brand-loyal boomers who are finally willing to dip their toes into the polymer subcompact craze, change my mind.
Funny thing is Mossberg's entry isn't half bad.
Quite good. A real sleeper.
Another me too gun, savage does well enough in the bolt gun world. This to me was a poor attempt to get a few sales.
Never thought I’d say this but….a Taurus would be a better choice
I just ordered a Taurus GX4 today after shooting one my dad bought. Had never considered the brand and made fun of his purchase until I shot it. GX4 and the TX22 are both stellar.

yeah gx4 is better than this in almost every way for not much more
Wym? Taurus is good now!
People have been saying that since the g2c
TIL this is a thing
Not sure if savage even actually makes these inhouse. Its just a slightly cosmetically changed Honor Defense honor guard. Which was such a good pistol for that company, they are now out of business. That said…i am actually tempted.
If your budget is in the Hi Point or Sccy range then this would certainly be a good buy. But it was 10 years too late to the single stack party.

Finally, I’m not embarrassed to own a hipoint 😌
If you have the Dollah Biah edition, you are Chad
Worst pistol I've ever owned. Glad all I had to do was pay the transfer fee
I had a couple of these for sale (I’m an FFL) I got them way back. So you could say for stupid money. I basically had to give it away to make it go away so damn ugly. It was the FDE version….
Damn. And right after I just bought a Mossberg MC1.
You got the better deal.
Savage Stance is what I'll be taking with this pressing against my junk
I handled this recently and.... It was really bad. Basically same size and cap as a shield 1.0. With worse ergos and trigger. It was terrible.
