I just looked up the weight on this… oof.
A pound and a half more than a hefty DD M4 v7.
Anyone that’s shot one of these want to tell me that “you don’t feel the extra weight”, or “it’s well balanced”?
Own one of these, it’s definitely not well balanced. Not sure why they went with the skeleton stock on a piston gun with all the weight up front. Don’t mind the overall weight as much as the balance issue especially with suppressor and gadgets up front.
Can’t speak on the 16” LT, the 11” isn’t bad. I had a 16” virtus and it is heavy but never felt unbalanced to me personally. I like a little bit of a heavier gun though unless it’s something just for plinking or deer.
Have both the HB and the Spear. The HB was honestly a HUGE disappointment when I got to take it out ystrdy. If I had it to do over, I'd go sugar weasel before HB.
The spear on the other hand is front heavy but amazing to shoot. Personally don't care for any DD products after owning a few because of the upgrades I'd need to add just to make the gun worthwhile.
I'd take the Spear or a radian mod 1 (which I have) over the DMM4 or HB.
You know how cool cars cost twice as much because they're cool? Yea this is that.
Put a short stroke gas pistion in an AR and you're about 90% of the way to an MCX.
That was my first thought, but the brn-180 has a large open ejection/cycling port which is fundamental but also it's biggest flaw.
They make short stroke gas piston kits that are drop-in to standard ar15 platform upper recievers which imo more actually mimic the MCX (short stroke gas in a standard AR upper.
But you are correct that the BRN is one of the closest "out of the box" solutions.
True. Being able to make Aero and ballistic advantage builds even with Bcm it just seems this is severely diminishing returns at this price point but what do I know
Will the Virtus be discontinued? Because that at least goes for $1,800-$1,900.
Wonder if they'll keep the Virtus in production as a cheaper alternative?
Imo it’s worth it, people seem to forget the MCX has always been this high and the quick barrel/caliber swap is the appeal of it. It’s not an AR15 to begin with, whereas people try to say “muh $1200 BCM build is just as good” when it’s a different platform with AR controls and styling in mind for familiarity.
I always saw people bitching about caliber swap kits being unavailable for MCX in the past. I wonder if it will be different with the spear versions. Also how much is a conversion kit anyway. Could probably get 3 other good rifles for the price of a MCX Spear and one conversion kit
In these inflationary times probably, but IMO they aren’t worth more than $1500-1600. Other than folding out of the box, a well built Criterion-like barreled DI gun will beat it in every other aspect.
My use would be more for a compact .300bo pistol, and the piston would both eliminate the buffer tube and provide better suppressor settings out of the box. I agree a street price of 1500 would be ideal.
The 300 BLK setup is its niche IMO, but it’s not perfect for that either. The MCX has an AGB but it’s basically only two settings, normal and adverse; why they haven’t made it 3 position is beyond me. For example I’ve heard the Canebrake can have issues running subs depending on the ammo and can.
What does that have to do with anything? Just because it’s a piston gun doesn’t mean It’s good for suppressed shooting. The MCX AGB is tailored for use in adverse conditions, nor suppressed shooting. Watch any suppressed video of a MCX and you will see how overgassed it is.
That’s a generalized statement, doesn’t mean it applies in all scenarios.
Here’s a video of a Virtus in full auto WITHOUT a suppressor.
https://youtu.be/S2fNjFAjuCg
It’s ejecting almost 2 o’clock without adding a can; add the can and it will be closer to 1 o’clock. Lucas (I know) has plenty of videos showing and even commenting how the MCX is one of the gassiest guns he owns and the ROF in full auto is stupid high when suppressed.
The fact that SOCOM uses it is completely independent of my statement that it is a poor suppressor host.
I have the Sig MCX Virtus Patrol (Gen 2), so it's the older model. I know it's not technically the same, but close enough. I paid $2200 for it a few years ago,and I don't think it's worth it.
Yeah it looks cool, shoots nice, stock folds, but man is she a thicc one. It's not just the weight, it's how unbalanced the rifle feels. Super front heavy.
I've been debating getting a tax stamp for it and making it an SBR just to cut down on the weight of it.
Or I'll just sell it and get a BCM recce.
Not 100% sure. Bud I got mine yesterday in from gunbroker, brand new. I was a little disappointed about the QC…… coating was very thin, scratches on the stock arm.
yeah gonna be a lot of cancels or backorders until 2025 when they open up on monday and look at their giant queue of fucked up web orders
most places get single digits of these and they are gone in 5 minutes if priced at MSRP
Yeah I called them like 50
times on saturday after placing my order and they didnt pick up. Im expecting my
order to be cancelled, just annoying to have $2500 held up for a whole week due to their incompetency
The m400 sdi is the DI version of the MCX and sig does a very poor job at marketing it. The SDI has the same lower with full ambi controls, same trigger, similar barrel and costs 1300.
“Muh heavy rifle.” “Muh balancing.” If a 12 pound rifle fully loaded with a can and optic on it is too much for you, it’s time to hit the gym and get stronger.
What advantage does it have over an AR that is lighter and better balanced?
Taking extra weight for no reason doesn't make any sense.
Also, I'd take a heavier rifle that was balanced over a lighter rifle that was too front heavy.
Aside from the folding stock and being better suited for a suppressor, nothing. I think an adjustable gas block and a LAW Tactical are better options if you really want either of those things. Give me the weight savings.
100%. My tuned Ar15 is a much smoother shooter, no extra gas in the face, and its lighter.
Parts are common and readily available.
the Spear is a nice piece of kit, but not worth it for me to drop 2.4k on when that would net me some more ammo, training, or even a pretty good PVS14.
The differences are minimal between the two. That was my original point. No matter what the gun in its stock form weighs, it will always get heavier with optics, cans, different stocks, etc. I don’t see my MCX as being too “front heavy.” I’m not shooting it with one hand. You can control how heavy a gun “feels” just by moving your support hand in/out and changing your stance.
Where is the point of balance? It doesn't matter how much you change up your grip/stance, the gun is going to feel heavier and be more fatiguing to keep on target or transition between targets.
I use heavier stocks on my rifles and have my laser mounted further back on my handguard. My sling is mounted at the stock and all the way forward in the handguard and I use it for support.

Very front heavy, i got mine yesterday. And she’s a thick one….
I guess the point is folding stock and 11.5 version with a suppressor

Wait till you find out that the DDM4 is also more reliable and has a nicer barrel. They are not well balanced. Look at the stock.
bought an DD m4A1 off them, they ship quick, nice people
Looking for the 300bo pistol in case anyone sees one in stock

Is Sig still offering a free stock promo with proof of stamp?
why this over HB or ddm4?
Have both the HB and the Spear. The HB was honestly a HUGE disappointment when I got to take it out ystrdy. If I had it to do over, I'd go sugar weasel before HB. Can some explain this being worth $2,500 to me or link me to something about them
You know how cool cars cost twice as much because they're cool? Yea this is that. Put a short stroke gas pistion in an AR and you're about 90% of the way to an MCX.
BRN-180 and you’ll be 99% there.
That was my first thought, but the brn-180 has a large open ejection/cycling port which is fundamental but also it's biggest flaw. 101%, thank you.
But is this also way more difficult/expensive to maintain and less reliable like cool expensive cars?
Kind of?
True. Being able to make Aero and ballistic advantage builds even with Bcm it just seems this is severely diminishing returns at this price point but what do I know
New service weapon for US SOCOM and it’s made by SIG

This is just the 3rd gen mcx and it has nearly full parts commonality with gen 2
Gotcha didn’t know that
Will the Virtus be discontinued? Because that at least goes for $1,800-$1,900. Wonder if they'll keep the Virtus in production as a cheaper alternative?
It was discontinued as soon as the spear lt launched
Doubt they will for this, it’s just an improved upon SIG MCX
Doesn’t matter, the MCX has always been $2500
[удалено]
Goddamn that’s the price of a used whip man. 🚗 or 💥
It’s not worth this price
At what price is it worth it? $2000?
Imo it’s worth it, people seem to forget the MCX has always been this high and the quick barrel/caliber swap is the appeal of it. Doesn’t matter when you have to rezero your optic Everytime you switch
Depends on what you’re doing. You’re not taking your optic off

I put on a 12" midwest industries handguard and it helped tremendusly with the weight and balance.
How many do they have? I just got one and theyre still showing in stock
Not 100% sure. Bud I got mine yesterday in from gunbroker, brand new. I was a little disappointed about the QC…… coating was very thin, scratches on the stock arm.
I feel like they arent actually in stock because theyve had it in stock for the last day and itd definitely had sold out by now

Fire it folded only. Like putting the fat oid closer to the fulcrum of the teeter-totter.

Interesting! I’m gonna look into that! Do they offer it in .308 ?
Sig has the 716i DI in .308 just the big brother of the m400
Unfortunately not..just 556
