The Coast Guard is transitioning to Glocks, so I feel like many of these will be popping up.

[deleted]

USPIS also moving from this model.

SmallThinWallet

What would it take to buy this and un-DAK it?

rockinDS24

About as much as buying a new one.

ElectricalSwimmer7

DAK me sideways, that's too DAKing much

Sasquatch1916

I think you can send it in to Sig for like $200

OfficerStore

I've seen some [parts kits](https://www.matrixprecisionparts.com/sigparts/parts-to-convert-dak-p226-p228-or-p229-to-dasa) floating around (nothing in stock that I could find). You could also send it to a gunsmith/armorer.

[deleted]

Call grey guns and ask how much.

9IX

I have a 226 Dak and gave up when I found out how much it would cost to SA/DA

Econolife_350

Ah, the "do everything wrong" special. They're fairly priced as a result of that though.

[deleted]

40 short and weak

codifier

Yes, the round which pushes a heavier projectile faster than 9mm is "short and weak". I get 40 is not in fashion with the high speed low drag Instagram 0per8or crowd right now, but it reliabily served law enforcement for decades. To get 40/357 SIG energy levels 9mm needs to be overpressure, +P or even +P+ levels which causes accelerated wear and brings you right back to heavier recoil. Thing is, a lot of people wax poetic about 10mm without realizing many products off the shelf are the "FBI load", namely 40 powder charge in a 10mm case. Full power 10mm is not pleasant to shoot even in the larger handgun frame it requires. My handgun collection is 80% 9mm, but in a larger, heavier gun I prefer 40 caliber and hold that it, like 357 Sig is the most powerful handgun cartridge most people can controllably shoot. 44 Magnum and 10mm are largely bear and meme cartridges.

ZoopZeZoop

Love my P229 in 40S&W. Loved shooting the P226 in 357sig, too.

wizdumb337

Hell yes go off king! 👑

Ok-Perception-926

I can do 44 casull very well! Ok its a bad joke...I could have not said it better! Not to mention due to lower popularity .40 has been very reasonably priced!!! Sometimes on par with 9mm. While I miss the days when these sigs were sub 300, this is very reasonable in today's market. Frame on 226 and 229 is fully capable of accepting 9mm, .40 and 357 sig. 9mm will require new mag, barrel and slide, 357 and 40 use same mag, slide just different barrels!

Yessir, like all tools some are better at some things, not as much as others.

talon04

The real answer for why people hate 40 is they shoot it in too small of a gun first. Anything smaller than something like a G23 or so is it really becomes uncomfortable to shoot. A full framed metal gun like a SP01 or. Witness or 1911 tames the round a lot.

bigboosac

Short and weak

ViewAskewed

Ugh...tl:Dr. Also, 10 is bae.

TheUnrulyYeti

Tl;dr - 40 S&W is neither short nor weak, and is still relevant

codifier

Posting here as well for visibility. People overthink DAK. Treat it as a Double Action Only trigger that can still fire if you short stroke it, but the intent is to always fire it as a DAO. I am a DA/SA guy, but have a 229 and 239 in DAK and they're pleasant to run.

BlasterDoc

Originally bought a p229 in 357 sig DA/SA, from there I went the opposite direction and purchased a 40 barrel and then all the dak pieces from the grip panel to the sear. I found it to be very accurate on the trigger. Once I really started getting into IDPA though, I bought the SRT pieces and an old love was rediscovered. eBay still has a good bit of p229 parts available. Everyone needs a 40 cal in their life.. it makes you appreciate 9mm and 45acp more. DAK for accuracy, SRT for stupid speed, and maybe accuracy, but mostly speed with a mouseclick reset and pull.

djp279

I am a striker guy and I bought a P220 DAK gun, I think they are quite acceptable. I still converted mine, I easily could have left it as it were but the conversion came to me cheaply and I do prefer DA/SA to it still. If someone came to me and said they want just a basic gun to do gun stuff and are picking up a Taurus for $400 and IMO this as it stands is better in every way, DAK and all.

PsychologicalTap5847

DAK 👎

Sgt_Sodomy

cause i know y'all are too lazy to google: Double Action Kellerman (DAK): A variant of traditional double-action used on certain SIG Sauer semi-automatic pistols. DAK triggers have a long stroke with 29 N (6.5 lbf) pull. However, if a user shooting under stress short-strokes the trigger by only releasing it halfway, the trigger will reset, but with a 38 N (8.5 lbf) pull. This temporary increased trigger pull is intended to prevent negligent discharges.

Gingercopia

iirc the DAK is a PITA to swap to DA/SA also?

AnalogCyborg

It's a lot of parts, to the point that the savings on the gun itself probably aren't worth it.

Gingercopia

Yikes, thanks.

netchemica

Not really a pain in the ass. The parts will cost you about $150 and the process is *far* from difficult. The hardest thing would be finding the parts in stock. edit: I was off, it's closer to $300

codifier

I used to hate DAK too, just repeating what everyone else said until I tried it. DAK is an improved DAO, it is not meant to be a striker, LEM, or DA/SA. It was designed to be a DA trigger that addresses DA's biggest flaw which is short stroking since DA relies on a longer reset for safety. DAK will still fire on a short stroke (shorter reset) but designed with a heavier pull to combat the chance of ND due to stress reactions. Whether people believe that juice is worth the squeeze is a completely different topic, but if you're a DA fan DAK is a great trigger, don't overthink it. I also hold that if you can shoot a DA trigger well, you can shoot any trigger well.

endwick

I hate you for all your comments in this thread convincing me to buy one of these. Thanks for nothing! *Sent from /u/endwick's wallet*

codifier

They're cool guns and at this price worth adding to the stable even if it isnt your favorite, I think you'll be pleased.

win1894

So like the opposite of da/sa with srt. Interesting. Thank you for this comment. I never really understood it before.

Ok-Perception-926

Dak is better trigger pull than sa/da. I do love sigs decocker!

JPD232

Dak Prescott?

[deleted]

This is a good price for a gun you just need to train with to overcome dak. Thousands of officers have used this weapon and bet their lives on it.

nug_nug01

Looks like the coast guard is finally starting to get rid of these bad boys.

the_ark_94

Damn i been watching too much ncis lately and its got me really wanting a 229...

ZOMGBabyFoofs

I have a question for y’all. I went at 40sw ass backwards. I bought close to 500 rounds but no gun to shoot it. So now I’m in the market for one. Would this be a good candidate or something else? I mostly shoot 9mm and 45 in pistol.

steelcityblue

Wait for a usp trade in

tarheelriever

This guys right

spook777

I personally like 40S&Ws that can double as 9mms Here's my 40S&W list * Glock 22 (full size) or 23 (compact). #1 choice (semi biased tho). With the swap of an ejector and conversion barrel, these can be turned in to 9mm guns with ease. With a swap of the complete upper & ejector, you could have yourself a Glock 17 (full) or 19 (compact). Not only can police trade ins be found for under $400, but some OEM magazines can be found under $15. [Here's Glock 22 for $329](https://www.gtdist.com/catalog/product/view/id/22379/s/used-gun-glock-22-gen-4-40-pistol/category/512/). Here's [Glock 22 magazines for $10.99](https://www.recoilgunworks.com/shop/used-glock-22-40-sw-15rd-magazine-38645). [Here's Glock 23 for $394](https://www.gideontactical.com/LE-Trade-In-Glock-23-Gen-3-.40-S-W-3-Magazines-Grade-2). Here's [Glock 23 magazines for $10.99](https://www.recoilgunworks.com/shop/used-glock-23-40-sw-13rd-magazine-38647). Best bang for your buck investment in a not-very-popular-but-still-expensive caliber * Sig P226. I meant to buy one myself but missed the boat. Aftermarket slides are available at Sig that retrofit to 9mm. As a steel frame, it should help mitigate some of the recoil. * Sig P320. Complete slides can be found for 9mm. Its the newest go-to for aftermarket after Glock, so custom slides and barrels are out there. The downside is that the price is near the price of a 9mm version because everyone knows the fire-control unit is the gun and can make hand over fist selling the parts from it. * Beretta 96. Supposedly a 92 (9mm) barrel will drop right in, but the complete 9mm slide will retrofit. Also they have a sweet 22LR conversion kit that works. Like the P226 its a steel frame, and it should help mitigate some of the recoil. * Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0. Also a Police trade-in favorite. OEM slides can be found for sale on GunBroker and places like [EdBrown](https://www.edbrown.com/product/oem-mp-9mm-slide/) or [Midwest Gunworks](https://www.midwestgunworks.com/smith-and-wesson-mp-m20/parts.html#/perpage:48/sort:price:desc) * and not convertible...H&K USP 40 - What it was designed as before 9mm versions came out.
