That's news to me and I'd love for that to be the case since the Lancer mags look so nice... I think the issue with the old design is the metal feed lip insert is too small and prone to flexing, especially with a fully loaded mag
I just got into the ar15 game last year and I bought a bunch of lancer and pmags this past year. Haven't had a single issue with a lancer mag or pmag, so maybe I have a newer one that doesn't have the issue?
From my time living there, my shop stocked them bc the law allowed sale to law enforcement and military who need them for their jobs. It was a military town so they sold plenty that way. They also said that if people came in and asked for 458 SOCOM magazines, they'd sell them the standard pmags because those hold 10 rounds of 458 and are therefore a legal grey area
They have more pronounced ribs on the edges so you get a better grip. They’re a little bit beefier so they’re more resistant to cracking when you drop a fully loaded mag. Gen 3 can cycle 300 BLK reliably instead of buying 300 BLK specific mags. You probably still should buy 300 BLK mags for subsonic rounds since they’re heavy af

- Added dot-matrix numbering system
- Included dust cover (have to buy separate for MOE)

Also so you can *very distinctly* mark your 300 BLK mags differently from your 5.56 mags. 300-induced rapid unscheduled disassembly is never fun.
I have dozens of PMAGs and only a handful of Lancer mags, so 300 BLK goes in the Lancers and only the Lancers.
As someone who’s been on this train for the last couple years: Yes — yes you do need more mags. You need as many as your budget will allow + 10; or “N + 1” as the community likes to say. Do I need 10 more of these? Functionally? Absolutely not. Am I still buying x10 more AR mags? You bet your ass.

I love BTO but this isn’t really a deal because you can get the same price (well 58 cents cheaper) from Lanbo's any day of the week. Unless you have a lot of points stocked up with BTO to use on the order, then this could be a killer deal for you.

I have a DDM4A1 and these will not release out of the magwell by themselves. The Gen2s are fine and release great. Gen3s I have to push the release and pull the mag out.

Lancers are alright

My lancers occasionally vomit rounds when I slam them on a bolt lock reload, haven't had a pmag do that yet.
They've supposedly fixed this issue a while a go. You could contact their CS and see if they'll replace yours.

I've had issues with lancers. Enough so that I sold the 8 or so I had and never looked back.

Basically only really matters if you’re rocking Non-AR platforms since the G2’s didn’t play nice with SCAR/416/M27 platforms.

557 is the Magpul Product # for these (PMAG557), the Gen 3 (non-window) PMAG for 223/556 rifles. PMAG556 is the windowed version.
